BioShock 2, Mafia 2 marked down for Amazon Deal of the Day
34
We'll probably never be able to realize our vision for a video game based on a crime syndicate that operates solely out of subaquatic tunnels. However, Amazon's offering the next best thing: BioShock 2 and Mafia 2 are marked down to $11 and $15, respectively, as the Deal of the Day promotion.

Bioshock 2 was worth the $60 even if it wasn't as good as the original, at $11 this should be a no brainer.

I have to disagree with you there. It was an unnecessary sequel...or maybe I'm still bitter that I had to grind in the useless multiplayer mode to get the platinum.

I don't buy all of that "unnecessary sequel" stuff. Nothing (game, movie, book, etc.) needs a sequel unless it was designed as one part of something larger to begin with. Personally, I enjoyed getting to play another Bioshock game and getting to see a bit more of Rapture. Also, the game play was much-improved as well.

You know, you didn't have to "grind to platinum". You could have just played the game because it was fun.

Yes...I did have to grind to get the platinum, because you need to reach the highest rank in multiplayer. Without that multiplayer trophy, there is no platinum. The multiplayer was awful, and everything but fun.

I see that one went over your head. He's saying you don't *need* to get platinum. Forget about the trophies and just enjoy the parts of the game you like.

It was fun, even if it didn't change dramatically from the first game.

nobody required you to grind to platinum
Trophies are occasionally fun to try for, but otherwise for attention whores.

that's a good deal...but Amazon apparently doesn't agree because they show something else.

The Amazon deal I jumped on today was that Portal 2 pre-order for $5 off plus a $20 future credit on Amazon. Same deal is at Wal-Mart as well.
I'm mentioning it here because I can't remember if Joystiq has pointed this out yet or not.

I've been trying to not pay attention to gaming deals for the last couple of months. I ended up with a huge glut of games from Christmas and pre/post holiday sales, so it was better to not tempt myself with any other good deals until I played some of the stuff I already owned.

Same here. It's better just to wait until alot of this stuff drops to $30 or below anyhow if you pace yourself and play the games you guy in sequential order.
It's easily too tempting with all these $20 off offers Amazon keeps firing off.

Yeah really dude, calm down.
Notice how the note: is only after the jump?, or how they use the word appears? They're supposed to keep you in the loop, even if its not 100% accurate at all times, and i'm guessing they were presuming, thats why its only after the jump.
I know they should have checked it out to get more detail, but you don't have to go all spastic, just say that its not the director's cut.
That whole stab a the blog thing was stupid tho, just get the hell out then.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but Gawker was responsible for the redesign (for all of their sites) not just Kotaku.

To anyone that's played it: Is Mafia II worth the $15 to pick up?

Try the demo
http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Mafia-II-Playable-Demo/00000000-0000-400d-80df-000154548864
Personally I couldn't even make it through the whole demo, I'd avoid the game at all costs.

Finished it. The answer is "NO". The demo is the best part of the entire game. The rest of it is wondering around lame city and listening to terrible dialog.

@b1uph03n1x It was decent enough (I played through it on a Redbox rental) but if you've waited this long, I would wait a little longer for the next printing when they include all the DLC in the box (no wonder this is on sale..)

I've been seeing that some people managed to get the Director's Cut version of Mafia 2 via Amazon. anyone else picked it up via the Deal of the Day that can confirm that?
I've ordered it regardless since it will take up to a month to arrive here in South Africa from them anyway :P
