Problem with these damn hacktivists is their tendency to go too far in their "fight for justice."

You could hear talk of these guys trying to get info on one of the execs children! These idiots want to go after someone's children over a perceived injustice.

Makes you want to support them even more right? /sarcasm

The "fight for justice" is more just looking for people to troll and bully. They care little about the "causes". Are 13 year old girls that make videos on YouTube causes?

I didn't realize these hackers owned PSN...

If that's the case, I guess it's their birthright.

Supporting WikiLeaks in time where GE doesn't pay taxes and NBC doesn't report it is one thing.

Hacking a privately owned network that supports the sales of a luxury item is an entirely different thing

I supported anonymous going after the scientoligist and in the Julian Assange case. So, I'd be a hypocrite to speak out against them now because I lost a few hours of PSN. Still, I'm a little more on the fence when it comes to George Hotz. On one hand I feel like he should be able to do what he wants in regards to his property but on the other hand I don't support piracy and that's what his software release has lead to. It's a slippery slope.

While I certainly don't support Sony in the whole Geohot "case" this is sort of stupid. This only affects customers to the PSN store who should be the people these guys want to protect. Also I always have a problem with people calling these guys "hackers" for performing something as simple as a DoS attack.
I can see how they are outraged, especially after Sony somehow managed to get the police to perform a house search at "Graf_Chokolo"'s place without any legal basis in Germany (his home country), but still I can't get over the way they're handling this.

@FriedConsole
You see, Anonymous is no "group" really. So the whole trolling 13 year old girls might be entirely different individuals than this thing or boycotting scientology, supporting wikileaks or whatever.

@eat it
About owning PSN their reasoning behind this seems to be that if Sony can treat the indivdual console as if the customer just rents it that they can act as if Sony only rents the servers hosting the service or something like this (I might be wrong)

Sorry for doublepost, but this came up after I hit send.
No, you're not a hypocrit if you don't support this.
The whole "supporting Anonymous" point is bull. They're no group. The only thing you can support is the cause and if you do so is entirely up to you for every new cause that arises.

Glad to see disapproving of this is popular here. Let's see them explain to Double Fine that nobody could download their Stacking DLC because a bunch of forum trolls brought down PSN because they're white knighting some dude few people know and even fewer care about. What a waste of time.

Dude, seriously.

These hacker douchebags complain that Sony shits all over their consumers...so the hackers respond by screwing over Sony's consumers.

It's nothing more than the hypocritical posturing of bullshit artists. I hear a million and one excuses about how this "war" (ugh...) is about "owning the hardware you paid for" and so forth...riiiiight.

As if anyone uses Jailbreak for anything but stealing games they can't otherwise afford. And now a bunch of crybaby hacker f*ckholes are going to shit on MY gaming experience because their parents don't give them enough allowance to buy every game they want? Assholes. Selfish, self-righteous assholes.

F*ck you, Anonymous and f*ck you, GeoHotz. You are not being victimized here. Get over yourself, and stop shitting on my good time.

For the record, I was playing RDR multiplayer yesterday and apart from a space of 6-8 minutes when I kept getting kicked out of games due to "connection issues", overall it wasn't too bad.

The "anonymous" that trolls 4chan, and the anonymous that actually knows how to hack, are two very different groups of people. Neither of which I actually want to call a group due to the complete lack of structure, organization, leadership, membership, etc.

If there weren't bad analogies, how would people try to convince people of ridiculous ideas? Bad analogies are like like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.

The problem is (as always) everybody here at joystick acts like if we all are 100% free of sins, it´s funny nobody here pirated ANYTHING in their life, nobody here has done NOTHING like that, just one mention of it gets you down voted, i wish i could really knew if everybody here is as "pirate-free" as they claim because if that´s the case then guys, piracy is non-existent as well as hacks.
Now the reason why i said what i said is very simple, you know that hackers have the knowledge to create havoc on the internet, that´s a fact. And if you piss them off things like what sony is facing are going to happen. And if horror stories have shown us something then your analogy is right dude, you don´t want to piss Dracula, because he is immortal, and he has an army of vampires that can kick the a$$es of the town folks from here to the moon. I don´t say it´s right to attack sony, but they should have expected that with all the noise they did with the hacking of their ps3, something that was going to happen, and what did they earn for complaining??? nothing that´s it. Game are available, and keeps coming, and the only thing they are doing is stupid attempts to "show an example" to stop future pirates. Something that has NEVER EVER WORKED.

I'll admit, I've pirated before. In fact, I pirate music a lot (mostly because I can't find it on I-Tunes usually). Still, I don't support what Anonymous is doing. Hacking Sony isn't going to stop them suing Hotz, its only going to make them more determined to do so.

What you say it´s true dude, it´s not going to help him, and to be honest i don´t think he deserves help after breaking the first rule of hacking: don´t show your face. That´d be as stupid as if Anonymous filled the servers of sony with pictures and addresses of all their members, however you need to understand something, must if not all the hacking/cracking teams are very young guys, guys that are doing this stuff more for the knowledge and the pride of saying: "I bet that protection" so at the end when a member of their community faces what Hotz is facing they don´t see it as: "yeah, he deserves it" it´s more like a David vs Goliath stuff, they attack because they can and because they are always going to see those big companies as the enemy, period. Not that i can blame them there are some who really are the enemy, but at the end it´s something fueled more for the desire of beating the big guy than anything else, and the more Sony tries to fight back the bigger things are going to get, just look at the other companies, Nintendo and Microsoft, their platforms were cracked, so what? they didn´t wasted all the time that Sony is by tracking down who did those mod chips, and as far as i can say they are not out of business because of piracy right?? but Sony is acting like this more likely because the PS3 was NOT the big hit they thought, and they are afraid this could hurt the company, although what really hurted the PS3 was the ridiculous price and the fact that Sony thought they were gods and nobody was going to beat them in the consoles war, they should´ve asked sega if it was possible to lose a console war.

Yes Nintendo does and they do a great job at it, While I don't support hacking In anyway and this does seem like a stupid thing to do cause they aren't really attacking sony they are attacking a network that consumers use I still believe the only difference between MS, Sony And Nintendo is how they approach the treatment of the customers.

Sony since the launch of the PS3 has basically said that they are not for the customer it's about whatever they can do to make money, Nintendo has approached it with we love Customers but really we are very subtle about the fact we just want money and customers aren't really a priority, MS basically says hey we got XBOX live it works (nothing else does but eh you want multiplayer access at high cost and we will give it too you) so give us your money.

Essentially all 3 are business and they are doing what they feel is right for them and there shareholders, I highly doubt they care if there network goes down due to hackers. Now the people at the low end of the totem pole most likely do care because they don't get paid enough and would rather not have to deal with pissed off gamers, sadly they aren't the majority vote on how companies are run.
