The Dragon Quest franchise always follows the most popular console. The PS3 would not be an appropriate home for the game.

I don't get what you clowns are complaining about. DQ8 still looks, feels and plays better than many modern games. Going through it today, never once do I feel like "omg I wish this was HD and normal mapped and I wish I could see the main character's skin pores!"

There is nothing to be gained from this game being on a PS3 or Xbox360. Stop focusing on irrelevant bullcrap and grow the hell up.

This is exactly why I think Kingdom Hearts 3 on the Wii could've worked too, because Kingdom Hearts 2 already looked great.

Yes there is, it's the same reason a lot of games are released for multiple platforms: Availability.

But I'm guessing that there's an exclusivity deal involving Nintendo and the Dragon Quest franchise since I haven't seen a Dragon Quest game on any non-Nintendo console since my PS2 was still latest generation (completely unverified fact based on personal experiences).

Wii has sold almost more than both the PS3 and Xbox 360 combined, how is DQX on WIi less available than the other two consoles?

A return to DQVIII sounds just fine to me.

I liked DQIX, but it's slant towards multiplayer was a turn off for me.

Just give me a nice, traditional DQ adventure with Toriyama cel-shaded graphics on a nice large-screen HD and I'm good to go.

Ugh.

Honestly, I could care less if it's on the Wii...so long as it's on a television. DQVIII still looks phenomenal, and that was on the Playstation 2. The Wii will handle Toriyama's art just fine, thank you very much.

Granted, I, personally, would prefer that DQX be developed for the PS3, simply because it's the system I currently own, but I have no doubt that Hori will deliver another amazing game in the main series on Nintendo's machine.

Dragon Quest has never been about bleeding edge technology, dude.
Get over it.

I waited 8 hours in line for the Wii on release date, and it does suck. Yeah, it has some great games, but they can only be found by digging through piles of shovelware, and are few and far between. And don't even get me started on the awful online system, the practically nonexistent online store that can only sell downloadable games that are TINY because it has so little onboard memory, and the controls that are fun at first, but quickly become boring, annoying and gimmicky all at the same time. And yeah, I still have it. Haven't played it in months. No one else in my family has either, and I have two younger brothers who love video games.

It was better when Squaresoft and Enix were separate companies.

Also, for those defending the Wii, there is a concept called multi-platforming. No excuse to not put DQ series on the 360 or PS3. And whoever mentioned sales the 360 and PS3 games sell way more than Nintendo games. And don't bring up Wiiplay or Resort, they did not sell for the game, they sold because of the controller.

Give it up. Wii for hardcore gamers was a failure.

And hardcore gamers are usually the one posting on the forums.

But your wrong. Wii has software sales above both PS3 and XBOX. I'm all for your opinions, I disagree with them, but I respect yours. But when you make bold statements like that, especially when they are wrong, then you just look like an idiot. Its like the old saying: "Measure then cut". Well, you gotta research then post.

I'm sure that some users will want to play Dragon Quest on the big screen and not have it look like it's 5 years old too, which would imply releasing it for Playstation 3 or Xbox 360.

*sigh* Baby steps, Squeenix. Baby steps.

@Boomaga Nope, that would mean they'd have to release it for the PC which won't happen. XBox360 and PS3 ARE five years old.

It's Hori's decision. He will always but DQ on the system with the largest install base. Which meant the Wii and DS this generation.

i have played both Galaxy 1 & 2 - and yes they are probably my favorite Wii games released on the system.

but there is no denying my disappointment - nor can anyone deny it would look better on the PS3/360. (and possibly the hope of having some good implementation of online functionality).

It can't look worse than DQVIII considering the Wii is more powerful than a GameCube, which was more powerful than a PS2.

Ugh, I only just now read the part of "Hawaii Jeff"s comment where he thinks the PS2 is more powerful than the Wii. Holy Christ, you complete idiot.

Multiplatform games were always the worst on the PS2. Beyond Good and Evil shows this pretty well. Super Monkey Ball, too (30fps on the PS2, 60 on the Gamecube. Even though the bananas were changed to flat sprites on the PS2, lol!). And RE4 for example had to be severely butchered to make the port from Gamecube to PS2, in several ways. There's some comparison videos out there that show how bad it truly is.

And the Wii is "two gamecubes duct-taped together".

Of course you can still make good looking games on the weak PS2, hell, you can do that on the DS. Power-wise though, saying the PS2 is more powerful than the Wii, is just utterly dumb and deluded, and shows how good Sony are at manipulating their brainless fanboy sheep, like raeloneq and Hawaii Jeff.

I would prefer the game on PS3, but if any game can be made to be good on the Wii this is it... I mean in Dragon Quest VIII you only use like 1 button almost ever, and as it being cell shaded animation it likely doesn't need the horsepower of the Xbox or Ps3.

I would be content if it looked and played almost exactly like VIII. unfortunately I'll have to hook my Wii back up which will require finding an outlet for it :(

Imagine if it had the graphics engine for Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm. I think that would've made a PS3/XBox 360 version worthwhile.

I find it funny that Square Enix gets the flack for this...even though Level 5 is developing the game. It was probably them who wanted to put it on the Wii, since they apparently hate the Playstation 3 (why else would they burden it with that turd that was White Knight Chronicles?)

This is literally the only reason I've held onto the Wii. If it doesn't end up being released in the states, I'm knocking on Reggie's front door (and running off because he scares me).

Seriously though, not only is this likely to be the system's last big hurrah but the best JRPG we'll see this entire generation.

Dragon Quest VIII was a great game to look at and even better to play. I don't doubt the Wii's power in delivering a good game, but I can't help but feel that going multiplatform would help sales; particularly in the US.

Doubtful, just because if it went multiplatform it very well might not even reach the US. The franchise's increased visibility in America is largely due to Nintendo (for once) actually working to promote the game abroad, something SE is apparently reluctant to do for Dragon Quest

True, Nintendo has been promoting the game/series a lot over the years of late. If I didn't know any better I'd think it was a first party Nintendo franchise.

Put it on PS2, PSP, NGP, iPhone or PC as is and I'll buy it. Port it directly to 360 and/or PS3 in a higher resolution and I'll pay even more.

I don't quite understand. Why the Wii as opposed to say the PS3? Dragon Quest VIII was on the PS2 and Dragon Quest VII on the PSX after all. The series has really gone all over the place after VIII. Although now that I think about it, a 3DS Dragon Quest game would have been awesome. On the bright side, at least I'll be able to play it since the WIi is emulated rather well. I'd be out of luck if it was on the PS3. If it WAS going on the 3DS, it'd be a "instant buy" for me once it comes to NA shores.
