Taking to the US and EU PlayStation Forums en masse, PlayStation 3 users continue to report connectivity issues with PlayStation Network today. Starting with the declaration of attack by hacker group "Anonymous" earlier this week, PSN has been experiencing sporadic issues over the past few days -- Sony characterized the outages as "intermittent" earlier this week, and promised that "engineers are working to restore and maintain the services." As of the time of publishing, we have been unable to connect to PSN today through several staff accounts.
According to a Sony EU forum moderator, a trio of error codes could be showing up for affected users (80710092, 80710D36 and 8071053D), though little else is offered in way of information. "We are currently looking into this and I will update the thread as more information becomes available," the post notes.
Additionally, PlayStation Lifestyle reports that a splinter group of Anonymous -- identified as "SonyRecon" -- is apparently going after specific Sony executives, seeking to reveal "names, phone numbers, pictures, home addresses, email, internet protocol address, family members and other data." CEO Sir Howard Stringer is said to be one of the group's targets, among others.
As previously detailed, Anonymous launched the attacks on Sony earlier this week as a sign of solidarity with hackers George "GeoHot" Hotz and Alexander "Graf_Chokolo" Egorenkov, both of whom are currently in litigation with Sony.

Wow Anonymous, you sure are sticking it to Sony by denying their customers access to a free service. Way to beat down the man.

@TheDarkWayne Agreed, these people are awfully misguided.
If you're doing it for your own enjoyment, IE hacking a Kinect, then it's fine, but when you start effecting other people who spend their hard earned money on these games then you become scum.
These people are scum, filth, black marks on the gaming community. Lower than low. They don't deserve to have electronics of any kind.

Sony will still be a victim if they keep this up. Loss of sales because players can't connect.
Either way the PSN sucks...

@Stevetrop Man of Mystery I don't know how they could even begin to think otherwise. If it were Xbox Live it would make more sense being subscription based, but man, PSN is free! They're barely hurting their profits or anything like that, they're just making it awful for the people they're trying to "protect" from Sony's "injustices".

@bennyfuyou That has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen written on this site.
And no, doing this to XBL would not effect Microsoft because you aren't being charged persistently and they don't give refunds of any kind. Maybe, and that's a big maybe, they'd give 10% of the monthly charge from a person back if this lasted for weeks, but they would have to keep this up for months to have that kind of effect.

@bennyfuyou Oh yeah, one more thing, this is way more damaging to the indie devs and small studios that sell their products on PSN than it is to Sony you moron.
Following that logic means means you want to starve small developers by supporting this. The profit from PSN sales that aren't themes, PSOne classics, or items for PS Home is a small percentage. Cents on the dollar.

Note I'm not saying these causes are equal. I'm just saying THEY believe they see a light at the end of the tunnel.

@Chichok Geez, I can't believe you would compare this childish crap to the civil rights movement. A more accurate example would be if some stupid white guy came in and smashed the grill and soda machine while the black people were being nicely served, and then a bunch more white people came in and sat on the black people's laps to protest the injustices done to them.

I don't know. As long as this isn't happening to Microsoft, we'll never know what they WOULD do.
A couple years back, a lot of people were experiencing pretty bad lag on their Xbox's around Christmas time. Not so bad that you couldn't connect to Live, but bad none-the-less. They got it fixed pretty promptly and a month later they gave everyone Undertow for free (a $10 game) along with an apology. Say what you will about Microsoft, but I thought they handled it pretty well.

I think you're a little misguided there, what the blacks were protesting against was racism, a disgusting plague that we'd be glad to get rid of, what they did, everyone but racists could agree with, they weren't disrupting anyone.
This on the other hand is pissing more people off then it is benefiting, the hackers are pretending to support George but using it as an opportunity to disrupt people's enjoyment and business. It's not helping developers trying to sell games, gamers trying to access PSN or Sony. The hackers are pathetic to be blunt, no more pathetic than George Hotz, and do you know what? If their houses were raided today and thier identities exposed to the world, I wouldn't care in the slightest bit. Some humans were just put on this earth to ruin everyone else's happiness.

@TheDarkWayne Sony brought this upon themselves. As you said, PSN is free so are the users able to complain? (besides the Plus members). While as a gamer, I don't condone what anon is doing. Although as a consumer, I see the EULA is almost turning into a lease agreement. No doubt that the hackers should had been more concealing in their activities to avoid this producer/user legality circlejerk. This cat and mouse game is redundant, Sony is essentially just feeding the trolls. They should just drop the lawsuit, waste the resources developing strong security and innovative implementation rather than fighting bad PR. Whiteout my comment if you wish, but at the least realize Sony cannot make an example out of these people/customers. They might have taken down lik-sang but I wonder how many others took its place? Same will happen in this case.
TL;DR: Sony should drop the case, stop feeding the trolls and up security.

And let George demonstrate that it's not only okay to share security information over the internet, but it's also not wise to sue individuals for fear that they might get thier website hacking buddies to illegally disrupt business practices? And that makes much more sense then what Sony is doing because...? I agree that Sony shouldn't bother wasting time with a rat like George, but nevertheless, people need to realise that Sony isn't against you doing what you want with your console, its the distribution of that information to other parties that the problem arises.
And this arguement that PSN being free gives us less right to complain is bullshit as far as I'm concerned, whenever I hear that I think of a Xbox fanboy delighted that this is happening to proove that paying for Live pays off when this could just as easily happen to Live if hackers wanted to make it happen, It has nothing to do with whether PSN is free or not, I paid for MY console, I paid for MY game, I am therefore entitled to play that game online on MY console, internet of which "I" pay for. I have every right to complain about fools disrupting it.

Anonymous is protesting by denying customers from giving business to sony because they feel that sony is being immoral. the point of these protests was to piss people off, make sony lose business, and gain attention.

No, black protesters were standing up for thier rights as black people, I suppose you'd go as far as to say that Rosa Parks was a pest for disrupting the bus service by refusing to sit at the back and know her place. Its because of her that races today have equal rights and it's because of the civil rights movement of those blacks in that restaurant that there is just the little bit less racial discrimination today. I find it highly insulting that you are even comparing that with what's going on with these hackers. The hackers are defending someone that was doing something stupid in the first place, and everyone is on this 'Sony is preventing me from messing around with my console' bandwagon, says who? Do you guys fabricate these ideas in your heads?
The only thing I don't agree with is the time wasted on George, as I'd much rather see resources go towards a better cause, but I still think George is a prat and deserves everything he gets. The hackers on the other hand simply deserve to be put onto rockets and blasted into space. Thier intentions are illegal, without much logic and a pathetic attempt to disrupt the pleasures of others. What the hell has disclosing personal information got to do with anything? That's not defending George's cause, that's just being a bug that deserves to be squashed.
If they think this is effecting Sony's business, they are mistaken, they've only targeted Euro and some US sites, futhermore, it's not stopping people from buying Sony products, just accessing their website. If this is annoying anyone, its us, the gamers, those idiots are punishing us, the gamers, so that they can do thier stupid little hacking hobby in the basement of thier parent's house. That's not civil rights, that's just plain downright stupidity.
If George hadn't been stupid enough to rant on about how cool he was for hacking the PS3 and then distributing the know how over the web, he wouldn't be where he is now in the first place and as far as I'm concerned, all his supporters are mindless sheep for even thinking he deserves to be hailed as Jesus.

Goodness. Much anger you have. The fact of the matter is SONY has backed out of and watered down the PS3 to no more then a game console with a bluray player. Remeber the new cool controller we were to get? Nope. We got a wireless DUAL SHOCK 2 with lame ass motion control ability. Then they took away BC then linux support. No built in card reader and stripped down the usb ports. Going slimmer and smaller is natural in electronics. But what new features have they added?
Home? Now that is a real joke in itself. The PSN? Yeah ok...CORE?
Nada. They have taken away what they promised. They deserve more then random attacks. They deserve a class action law suit for breach of public contract and conduct unfitting to a Corporation of their sature. (no matter how small their stature has become)
Most Game consoles add features and services. But not Sony, They just take away. For what a lower price? If you consider what they took away from us, it should be no more then $199.00 us.
Unreal actually.
And Plus members should really not be upset about the attacks. They should be upset because they are now paying for what used to be free. Now that is just plain sad. And funny at the same time.
Anonymous is becoming the Robin Hood of the cyber world. They are doing whar others would love to do. They are making statements left and right. Maybe not allowing a modded console on the network should be enough of a punishment. Jail breaking a device should be allowed. Not worse then slapping on an exhaust system or a computer chip to your car.
Give us a network as good as LIVE(which it should already be, since SONY said when the NEXT GENERATION started) and then put linux support back and all would be good.
Such a shame really....SONY has really screwed the pooch and people still defend them.
Well at least I can go log on to LIVE for some COD on my BRAVIA LCD.
I love them SONY TVs.

It's cute you have an irrational hatred for Sony and blah blah blah, it doesn't at all justify the illegal and completely misguided take down of a free consumer service.

I was angry at the reference to the black civil rights movement in the same context, and to be frank, I think I have a right to be, considering, you know...some of us here are black? I know that doesn't mean much to some people, possibly the same people who got angry with Japan for having an earthquake and disrupting thier game releases, naughty earthquake! But yes, the shocking truth is that I am black. ¬_¬
Now, on to you, yup, because accusing someone of anger and then replying with an angry rant makes logical sense. First of all, "just" a game console and bluray player? Maybe it's just your lack of braincells disallowing you to think of complexed things to do with your PS3 since Linux was removed. I'm pretty sure "game consoles" were made purely for "gaming" anyway, so I don't see how that arguement bares any logic, considering the fact that you should see the blu-ray and anything else as a bonus. Secondly, Sony removed that controller ages ago because people moaned before it even came out, stop bringing up old news. If you did some research, you'd realise that BC emulation was both expensive and unjustified, which is why they removed it, if you want to play PS2 games, get a PS2, they are dirt cheap, you have no excuse. Thirdly, Linux was removed because it was unnecessary to anyone but hackers who in turn punched Sony in the face by using it to exploit the system's secuity and play crappy homebrew, to which Sony punched them back in the face by taking it away. That's what you get for being nice to people. Fourth, who needed all those USB ports? If you need them that badly, buy an older model PS3, duh! You can get BC on those as well if you care about it that much. Fifth, Home is fun for some people and not for others, no one is forcing you to have it and PSN addresses the online network that PS was missing.
As for the rest of what you wrote, pure fanboy babble, like a baby comparing his rattle to another baby's, I don't give a monkies what you think about Live and your TV, what you would like to stick up your nostrils, or what socks you wear in the mornings. I would have thought that with your head so far up George's backside, you'd be able to see shit clearly, obviously not.

What have you even been doing? Apart from flaming like a five year old. Seriously, I haven't seen trolling this bad since my GameFAQs days. Even the trolls over there are better than you are.

Hi, I'm from the future, just here chilling in 2011, oh yeah, game consoles are still about "gaming" and fanboy wars are lame. We've all matured now you see and grown up and realised that getting all consoles is a way to enjoy all aspects of gaming. I know being stuck in 2006 sucks when people were stupid and the in thing was to troll with dopey replies like yours just now, but that's just not cool anymore. The PS3 is in fact a "gaming platform" with blu-ray first and foremost, funny that ey, because people were ranting about only using it for Blu-ray and that it was collecting dust in your days, now it seems to be right behind 360 in terms of install base worldwide, strange how something that ONLY plays games has reached such a positive pinicle, which is also quite funny because this is also Sony's marketing slogan now. Oh, yes you're right, in 2006 Sony did lose a lot of face, but now they've redeemed themselves and released quite an array if superb titles, you should come and join us in the future where we have matured and play games for fun. Oh, but I must warn you, there have been an abundance of pratty hackers ruining experiences for gamers, it seems that they too are stuck in 2006.
PS: I've noticed the fact that you referenced my behind quite a lot in your reply, is there any reason for that?

Then don't buy a f*cking Playstation 3.
If you're upset about how Sony wheels and deals...then vote with your goddamned dollar and spend it on something else. The fact that Sony didn't re-vamp their f*cking controller (seriously?) doesn't give anyone the right to hack into publicly-used services and harass the family members of Sony executives?
Anonymous as Robin Hood? Are you drunk? THERE IS NO INJUSTICE HERE. These shitbirds are not fighting for civil liberties. They aren't fighting for freedom. They're bitching about what rich people can and can't do with a luxury computer entertainment device.
Why don't you take your horseshit rhetoric over to some teenager in Darfur and regale him with tales of your exalted cyber Robin Hood, and how important this "crusade" is. No, seriously. Do it.
Don't worry. I'll wait.
What's that? You don't want to? That's because that kid would punch you in your stupid dick and take your wallet. Because he's hungry.
Because he's got real problems.
Anonymous as Robin Hood? Fighting injustices?
What the f*ck is wrong with you?

Why does he need a Pterodactyl to change it for him?

oh please.. don't compare your infantile temper tantrum with legitimate human rights issues.
the only thing you've managed to do with your ill-informed rant was prove just how misguided and childish anonymous is being in this case.
leave innocent consumers out of it.

Now I am simply saying this as a matter of consideration, I do not support such actions as this - given the root cause, however I do see valid points on both sides. It's messy.
At any rate, what if that's the point? To force Sony to have to spend extra money on their network they provide for free? A pointed attack.

@oJMan240o I think Microsoft would give you a free month or two for it honestly. I mean they gave me a free month when I sent my Xbox in for the rrod and I only lost a week of play time.
