Rumor: Mortal Kombat Xbox 360 exclusives include arena, free DLC character, Avatar support

Ever since revealing Kratos for the PS3 version of Mortal Kombat, Xbox 360 owners have been waiting to hear about platform-exclusive features for Microsoft's console. While NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have yet to confirm anything, Save and Quit has posted up some rumored features -- and no, none of them are a playable Spartan.

Outside of an exclusive Puzzle Kombat mode, the Xbox 360 will also get a King of the Hill mode (which features Avatar support) and an arena called The Pit 360, a remake of Mortal Kombat 3's The Pit 3. Additionally, it's reported that DLC character "Lady in Red" will be offered as a free download for Xbox Live users for a limited time following her debut and there will be exclusive Mortal Kombat-themed Avatar gear available for purchase on Xbox Live.

None of this is confirmed, of course, but the image above supposedly shows off the King of the Hill mode and some Avatars, giving this rumor just a little hint of validity. We've contacted both NetherRealm and Warner Bros. for comment.

Apparently Ed Boon and Hector have both mentioned on twitter that the Puzzle Kombat mode and the Pit 360 are not in the game.

Because they finished them after they were done with the rest of the game, so they could get the game out on time and not be Duke Nukem Forever.

Avatar support sounds fishy to me. I thought Avatars were off limits for all M-Rated games.

I tell you what I'd rather have. A semi-cutesy Avatar mode where all the characters from Mortal Kombat get Avatar versions made of themselves, and you get to fight with them.

Think Virtua Fighter Kids, or how they used to have super big-head mode in a lot of games back in the 1990s, but featuring the MK roster. And as far as the brutality towards Avatar restriction by Microsoft, that can be gotten around by replacing the Fatalities, with something a lot more cute, but just as sadistic - or better yet, extremely tongue in cheek, snarky.

I personally would take an entire mode like that, over getting a character who does not belong in the MK universe in the first place, in an MK game.

Wow Xbox360 people are really that mad that MK doesnt have an exclusive character for 360?

Eh, i got a PS3 but could care less if PS3 didnt get an exclusive charater. I mean even when MK vs DC had came out, i spent almost all the time (bout 99%) playing MK characters, not DC.

Either way I think 360 fans should just be happy to be getting a classic true to the name MK game finally after all these years. I know i am happy as a PS3 owner to know that MK is finally gonna be back to the glory days.

Bring back the early 90's of my childhood with a great MK game filled with blood and guts.

Nobody is complaining yet. They (as well as I) just don't know how to feel about it, I mean free stuff & exclusive modes are great but we want to feel like they actually put more though into what the 360 owners got. Right now, it kind of feels like they said "Ok we got Kratos for PS3. Now what about the 360? Hmmm just throw in a free DLC character & a a couple modes in for them."

Matter of fact, most of the people I talk to don't even seem to know or care. So I'm wondering, where does all this penis envy you allude to in your post come from?

I haven't really seen anybody complain about it, but honestly I think they should be (if they intend to play the game). Having a console-exclusive character hurts the game's competitive scene–people who only have access to a 360 won't want to play because they'll have no idea how to handle a Kratos player, so a lot of the audience is lost. It's the same kind of problem that comes from having DLC characters, but a lot worse because there's no way around it.

Well I guess that they could release some kind of stand-in for the 360–a character who has the same moves but isn't Kratos.

It almost feels like they are giving 360 owners this stuff and a free DLC download char to make up for the lack of exclusive character? Just throwing guesses out there. But it feels like an apology. Especially with their being so mum about the 360 exclusive, if it even existed in the first place...

Doesn't sound like a fair trade. I mean, it's KRATOS. 360 should at least get Marcus Fenix or something, and it'd be good promotion for Gears 3.

I don't think it's about what's fair, and more about what makes sense. The look of Kratos and they style of game that GOW works for Mortal Kombat. Not only that but there was a mini-fighting game in the 3rd game that probably sparked a few ideas. Fenix would be interesting, but the way he looks wouldn't translate well into the style or visual design of this Mortal Kombat. This of corpse is my opinion.

Marcus Fenix is a character owned by Microsoft. They published the games developed by Epic and own all rights to the IP.

I think Kaim is great idea. Though, I would LOVE to see Ryu Hayabusa. Microsoft always had a special relationship with Team Ninja and I thought he would've been a perfect. Maybe that relationship only went as far as Itagaki?

The rumour started from some guy on GameFAQs, it almost certainly isn't true and I'm stunned how widespread it's now being reported on.

However, they did confirm the 360 *will* have an exclusive - though it's possibly coming as DLC, later down the road.

I don't get why people are complaining on forums and on twitter (ex. "I'm not going to buy this" yada yada) because the 360 does not have anything exclusive.

It is not NetherRealms fault that Sony handed them money to get something exclusive. Maybe if MS gave a little the 360 would get something too but I guess MS does not care.

While I'm still doubting this rumor is true, I'd much rather have a new mode than an exclusive character. Not hating on the PS3 or Kratos, but one more character isn't really going to change the game that much, whereas a new mode probably would.

I have both a ps3 and 360, and decided to go with the 360 version even after Kratos was revealed. Mainly because I will have more friends to play with online on the 360. Either way, a new arena will be pretty cool, as will a new mode. I hope this is for real. I don't really care about Kratos to be honest, but I would have been mad as heck if any of the MK universe characters were exclusive to only one platform.
