The remastered Splinter Cell Trilogy, in development for PS3, is based on the PC versions of the original games, confirms Ubisoft's Alex Monney. "When we started this project, one of our main goals was to provide the players with the best possible content," he writes in a post on PlayStation Blog. "Hence we decided to port the game from the PC version which had more content and detail compared to the PS2 version."
It's not well documented in any one place (come on Wikipedia!), but there are actually a lot of subtle and blatant differences between the various platform releases of the games; most notably in the first Splinter Cell, according to MobyGames, where level design and bonus content differ between versions. While it would have been neat to have been able to toggle between these versions in Splinter Cell Trilogy, the PC ports are probably closer to the original Xbox sources than any other versions, and feature the highest-resolution assets (which are going to be bumped up to full HD in the Trilogy release).
Additionally, Monney notes in a response to a comment that "the online part of the original games won't be included" in Splinter Cell Trilogy -- just the single-player campaigns. While part of the post URL suggests that the collection will be "coming-to-ps3-in-june" (confirming an earlier report), Monney's officially sticking with, "No firm release date yet, but we'll update you guys once we know!"
[Thanks, Merrick]

Nice. Can't wait to dive back into when Splinter Cell was actually good before that crap called Conviction.

HEY! Conviction was actually pretty solid and the co-op was sweet. I do prefer the old style of gameplay, but Conviction was nowhere near crappy.

I've tried to play the first Splinter Cell right after finishing MGS3 a long time ago, since everyone back them would compare the two franchises. SC didn't make it for me, but I've played the Conviction demo a dozen times and haven't picked it up yet because of a lot of unplayed games and little time to do so.
Well, as they say (I always wonder who the hell "they" are), to each one its own.

Conviction was an awesome game. Tons of value too. I'm planning to play some of the terrorist hunt mode tonight. It was just different than the past Splinter Cells.
Can't say the same for SOCOM 4 based on the beta. It's different from past SOCOMS and it sucks.

Really?
I wanted to play Conviction really badly. I didn't realize it was a console exclusive until after it launched, though.
Still though, it looked awesome, and everyone I knew who played it said the same.
In any case, I couldn't be more excited for the SC Trilogy. I had the first one for PC way back when and played it to death. From what I hear, the sequels (especially Chaos Theory) are even better.
So stoked.

@Urethra Alfredo It isn't a terrible game, it's just so different from what I want for a Splinter Cell game. So if you really like the old ones, I wouldn't recommend Conviction

it's silly to compare splinter cell with mgs because they are literally nothing alike. i consider mgs to be more sci-fi/fantasy than rooted in any sort of reality that we exist in. on top of this difference in theme/setting, there is also the completely different control schemes to take into account. bottom line is, it's pretty dumb to compare these series and i honestly never understood why anyone would.
it was probably just mindless fanboy banter because, as we all know, the splinter cell games were always ace on the original xbox, yet sucked major ass on the ps2, while mgs was always more-or-less a playstation flagship title.

The curtains in the first Splinter Cell got me into the series.
Yes, I was captivated by the fluid motion of the curtains and other things in the game.

Yeah, I heard the "spy versus mercenaries" multiplayer in the PT/CT still stands as some of the coolest competitive gaming ever. I was intrigued to finally be able to give it a go...

Yeah, I was mainly interested in this collection because of the multiplayer.
Oh well, maybe next time when they release collections, we want the full game and not just 2/3 of one.

These are for the First Three Splinter Cell's. I would like to add; The Best Splinter Cells.
So Double Agent; which was a downgrade from the awesomeness of Chaos Theory won't be in it.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/13580/
Anyways, these won't come out on Steam because they are already on there.
It is a dumbed down port of the PC ver. of the game; the online still works on PC. =D

Double Agent on Last-Gen Consoles was more like Chaos Theory. More stealth-based then the current console ver.
There was no Spies v. Mercs in that version though, oddly and sadly, but it did have Story Co-op.
I don't get why they didn't put both games together. Only reason was; the two versions had different developers.

So I own a gaming PC, a PS3, a PS2, and an Xbox 360. I've played the original 3 games on PC and partially on the Xbox. I've played Conviction on my Xbox 360. I don't fit into your "sony fanboys are the only ones who don't like it" shtick.
I thought the game was good, but it was way too easy. I mean, you had infinite pistol ammo so the majority of the time all you had to do was spam your pistol. Sure you could argue about going for achievements or trying to do each mission perfectly and not rushing in all badass, but in the end it just felt like like a "guns blazing" game more than a sneaking game, which is what I feel SC is all about.
I can't even tell you how much fun I've had with the original games and trying to find the perfect way to be stealthy because I had to. When your ammo is limited and an alarm means game over, you're actually forced to be clever and think more. When you have unlimited pistol ammo and can restock every single item 3-4 times a mission, it takes out part of the strategy.
It's still a good game, it's just not a great one, thanks in part to all their efforts to streamline it. (Though, to be fair, some of their changes were welcomed, like just generally making Sam faster/better at some of the more mundane tasks).

So glad they didn't use the PS2 ports. The PC version was the right choice I think. Now hopefully they will all play smoothly and have minimal glitches.

I would have bought this on the PS3 if the multiplayer was included. However I've already played through all 3 splinter cells and even the temptation of trophies can't convince me.
I'm going to have to pass on this.

I'm glad I'm finally going to be able to play Chaos Theory after all these years, but it's a tragedy the online modes won't be carried over to those of us who never tried it. I heard it was excellent, but now we'll never now.
Seems like a half-assed effort to me. Is it really that much trouble to port over the online segment? I mean, hell, I'd be willing to pay a little bit more for it.

I had such a sense of accomplishment beating the original SC. It redefined the genre. The online component being cut doesn't matter to me. This is definitely a buy but I hope it's in 16X9.
