@ShingoEX Streets of Rage Remake has been around for years. If big outlets such as Joystiq weren't bringing attention to it, Sega would never have cared or probably even known about it.

Despite the fact that they were not charging for it and that it had been around for years in various beta forms.

The only way this can become a positive is if Sega actually inked a deal with Bomber Games and will make this a legit downloadable release for PSN and XBLA. If not, it's just another bullet point on the long list of boners Sega has pulled in the last 10 years and another great opportunity for them to further alienate their fanbase.

Exactly. sure you can play the whole copyright game but in the end all they're doing is hurting the fanbase. If anything they should have came to some kind of agreement (which they tried to do), if sega wanted to shut it down they had a whole 8 years to do so. Even activision ended up agreeing for the fan made king quest games.

So my low blow comment still stands.

As much as it sucks, SEGA has to do this or risk losing their copyright for Streets of Rage and the associated characters. The laws are written in such a way that companies MUST do this to unauthorized fan projects. It's terrible and it will continue to happen every time a fan remake that infringes on someone's intellectual property.

The lesson, which we never seem to learn, is to not use other people's copyrighted creations. I'm sure if this were an original game instead of a "remake" it would still be avaliable for all to enjoy.

It was a free download that probably reignited a lot of people's interest in a franchise that's, more or less, dead.

If Sonic Team can appreciate and even biggup that Sonic Fan Remix that was demoed a while back, then why can't this Streets of Rage project live? Shit's bogus.

SEGA should have done it years ago when the were contacted about the project. Letting the people put all that time into it and hard work thinking it was alright only to have it taken down is just a dick move.

Hell I don't understand why they released it under Streets of Rage name anyways, other then to attract the remaints of it's fan base. They could've just released it with a new name and new characters. Could've been loosely based, stage wise, on the older streets of rage. All would've been fine then.

@darkfocus HEH welcome to the new SEGA, screwing their old fans since the day they wend out of consoles. They probably justify it by saying :"blablabla copy right blabla fanservice. HERE A game where Mario beats up Axl in MARIO AND AXL AT THE K1 TOURNAMENT!"

Yeah, srsly. I made sure to check it out "with the quickness". Hopefully SEGA plays it cool PR-wise and offers the creators work on a possible XBLA/PSN version.

well it sucks hard for the ones that didnt take joystiqs advice i did and i love every minute of it, hell its better then the old school streets of rage and i know if sega did bring it back they would ruin it, hell look at what they have done with sonic.

i maybe the only one that dont want a new Streets of rage only because i know it will have some kind of crappy gimmick that would make me stare at sega and asking them whats wrong with them.

Easily a commendable effort. Here's a quick list of the frackin' amazing stuff squished into this remake:

» Autosave savestates That allow you to continue the game from the Same point, exit windows, alt + x, etc.
» Over 30 configurable options & modes in the menu
» 6-button controller actions, wide range of support for different PC gamepads, including the wired/wireless(PC-version) X360 controller
» Multiple vehicle use (bikes, jet-skis)
» 103 STAGES (93 stages in story mode, 5 stages in extra modes, 5 stages in the Prototype mod in separate download)
» 19 PLAYABLE CHARACTERS based on SOR series, including new playables
» 64 ENEMIES from the series, including remastered versions
» 80+ BGM tracks & remixes

Honestly, this is a perfect example of how a remake or collection-game should be made and honored. If you're a fan of SOR or even beat'em-up side scroller games, this is a must play.

Can someone tell me if they added the Save feature that was so needed in their earlier build?

The worst part is Sega most likely will not ever revisit this series. So fans produce a labor of love and get shut down. Brilliant.

We should all count ourselves lucky that this managed to be released as a complete game. It's a testament to a bygone era. What was, and what may never be again. Download this game (make sure it's v. 5), play it, and relive one of the best beat-em-ups in history.

Come on, this is exactly like when Nintendo had those dudes take that Zelda movie down. Clearly they don't actually care, or they would have stopped it during the lsat 8 years. Why would they wait until it was finished? Once it's finished, it's on the internet forever.

This isn't that bad. It's not like Squenix waiting until that Chrono Trigger patch is almost done before being assholes and shutting it down. When a company waits until the fan work is actually finished before shutting it down, it's because they don't really care.

I don't think so. Unless any of those guys got clear legal consent to do these things, it should be pretty blatantly obvious that they're infringing on copyright. To assume they'll get the go-ahead is way beyond naive. These companies live and die by their IP, and goddamnit, they DO care about these things because that's how they make money. All these 'remake' 'tribute' people could go ahead and use their talent on original content, but they don't because it doesn't get them the internet exposure, the 15mins of fame, because then no one would care about what they made.

I see what you're saying. Essentially, companies wait until there is a wide release, then shut the project down due to legal obligations, when really they're enjoying the publicity of the game which is already being swapped around the net?

Clever. Almost too clever for Sega.

I hope it's been taken down whilst Sega and Team Bomberlink sort out some kind of contract to get this on PSN/XBLA and Wii.

Now that it's finished and already been downloaded God-knows-how-many times, Sega have probably saw an opportunity to squeeze some cash out of this (and paying Team Bomberlink for their 8 years of hard work)
