Well, that... and the 3DS would technically be more expensive than Nintendo's mainstream console system... so... um...

I still think all consoles are over-priced. 5 - 6 Year Old Hardware and still at these price-ranges. Silly IMO.

PS3 - Overpriced Should be $199
360 - Overpriced Should Be $175
Wii - Overpriced Should Be $99
3DS - Overpriced Should Be $149

but Demand and Profits put up those prices so; I don't have much say...

You also have to think that there have been console refreshes PS3 Slim and Xbox 360 S both have different hardware from the originals. Wii is the only one that has not have a refresh. Overall wouldn't hurt them that these consoles were just a bit cheaper.

Yes; those hardware changes made it EVEN more cheaper for the first party to mass produce them.

Right and you can buy a wristwatch with many, many fewer features than the PS3 for $25,000 - your point?

I agree the PS3 and 360 are not particularly overpriced (and bear in mind that when they launched, at $600 in the PS3's case, they were severely *underpriced* due to manufacturer subsidy) but the fact that there are more expensive things which do less isn't particularly a demonstration of that. :)

@Cletus VanDamme - Microsoft will likely hold a price drop on the 360 until Sony pulls the trigger on a PS3 price drop. That could be anywhere from E3 onward to Q4, but my guess would be E3.

Surprise! I never owned a Gamecube last gen, and there's many such games I still need to beat/play, and with the virtual console and a few other things, I'd probably buy one if the price dropped low enough. At the moment it's just kind of hard to justify buying anything that's expensive since I'm not exactly rolling in cash.

I wouldn't put too much stock into that assumption. Publishers/developers always put out super high res screenshots with some godly form of anti-aliasing.

If you're referring to the basic "Wii with HD" system that everyone's been saying will happen for the last 3 years, you're gonna be disappointed. At this point, there's absolutely no sense for them to even bother with a half-upgrade when every single made before it won't be able to support.

A WiiHD in terms of a next-gen console sounds more likely, especially given that most of the recent Nintendo software was made by outsourced companies (Mario Sports Mix, the upcoming Wii Play+, and even Pilotwings and OoT on 3DS). I wouldn't expect a release until next year at the earliest, though.

You know, that got me thinking. They've outsourced quite a few recent/upcoming games. Then there's the fact that Retro has probably already started on a new project for Nintendo.

Anyone think Retro could be starting on a launch game for Nintendo's 8th gen system?

really? i understand doing that on the PC, where a the platform is capable, but doing it on the wii is totally false advertising. the thing can not even make a 720 signal.

@papercrafted - The PS3 can't do 2560x1440 either, yet I have some Dark Souls screenshots in that resolution.

We like to call these "Bullshots" (a shortening of "Bullsh*t Screenshots") because they don't accurately represent what the end user is likely to see. They render these shots on dev kits, using many passes of AA, AS, etc (sometimes I wonder if they don't just photoshop some screenshots). It's kind of shady, but it is a common industry practice.

I don't know if I truly believe the Wii, in its current form, couldn't push out HD (720p at least with the component cables). I think the problem is heat. It's the same thing that plagues any A/V equipment; people see an open slot that will just barely fit whatever they're trying to play with [giggity] and won't think about proper airflow - and so Nintendo thinks instead of having a potential RRoD issue that Microsoft got a lot of bad pub over, they're standing pat with 480p on the Wii.

@harbiinjer That is the unfortunate part of Nintendo. Like I'd be dying to play the next Super Smash Bros on the next system. Same with Zelda and Star Fox on the 3DS. But those alone just aren't worth it :(

The only thing that saved mine from getting sold was the gamecube games. I skipped the cube for the most part so it was pretty well worth it in that respect. But now that I'm caught up on both cube and wii games it sits untouched, unloved. Donkey Kong was the last game I played on it and even then it annoyed the piss out of me by forcing idiotic "motion" controls.

It's also a damn shame there aren't more and better party games for it. That's where it could have shined but oh well. This generation has been pretty underwhelming on all consoles. (Almost every game on a console worth playing was also on PC, my preferred platform)

I think Sony's first party titles alone have made this gen pretty worthwhile. I can't speak for Nintendo's games, as I don't own any of their current systems, but from all I've heard they've had some great stuff too.

As for Microsoft, I can't think of any major first party/exclusive titles besides Halo or maybe Gears of War. Shadow Complex perhaps?

To be honest, most of the console exclusives are nothing to get excited over; so can we please get over the console flame wars? Stop it with all this platform-on-platform crime!

They should just drop it to $125. It'd provide a surge of interest. One last surge. This is just a fart. Only the people in the vicinity will care.

Still, any price drop is better than no price drop or just another bundle at the same price.
