Really cool that a 17 year old can be doing something like this. Also, it's probably going to look really good if he ever wants to get an industry position.

Nice. One of the things I like about the indie games industry is that all of the collective indie game companies almost get along with each other like a big community. For example, you'll see Minecraft characters in Super Meat Boy, but you'll probably never see an Activision character in an EA game.

Very cool.

Angry Birds is/was 1.99/.99/free this is .99. One is worth money, one isn't even worth looking at (no matter how cool it is that a 17 year old can be doing stuff like this)

While I'm sure Joystiq has their reasons, are their not enough legitimate indie developers that deserve a little exposure on a major gaming website, or is a 17 year old that's obviously trying to cash in on the (.99 cents is practically nothing, so just give it to me) market all you got?

@DeadRabbits "99 cents is a small amount of money, therefore I think it should be cheaper." ...?

If this gets bought 10,000 times, that's a nice chunk of money! If the price isn't a huge deal, why would he want to release it for free?

Maybe Nintendo was onto something when they said that iPhone games were screwing up people's sense of worth.

Dead on! Its a little odd to hear people say that $0.99 is too steep a price. Also next update is going to have a whole new game mode, so I don't think people will feel ripped off if I keep shooting content at them.

I'm not saying it's too steep. I'm just saying you really don't deserve anything for this. You are still in the process of learning.

I was simply stating that there are far more advanced, and intriguing games out there that cost the same as your app does. (I don't know if you can offer things for free on the App, store) but on Android, I doubt this would even be a success as a giveaway.

I'm not really in the business of giving people a pat on the back for developing mundane and mediocre content. There are 8 year old astro physicists out there that have done, and will do more for the world than you or I ever will. So you being 17 and making crappy Iphone games isn't at all impressive to me.

Your game strikes me the same way all the other games on platforms like, and apart from XBLA do. Somebody gets a hold of an XNA kit, develops something that does "something" then tries to get whatever money they can.

Your game is just another plop on the heap of shovelware out there, and I don't know why you are getting any exposure at all on this site, when there are people much more talented and deserving of it.

That's all.

@DeadRabbits First off, I bet you haven't even played the game. And on that fact, how dare you judge him. Secondly, he never said that the game pushed the newest graphical technology, or was the most in depth game on the planet. Tetris was one of the simplest ideas for a game ever and it has been remade a million times now. People like simple handheld games, the only people that don't are usually closed minded people who only look at graphics over gameplay, and care how old someone who made a game is in relation to the game being good. This is not a case of him being the greatest developer ever, this is a case of someone who made a game which was enjoyable to play, and simple and fast enough to be enjoyed at any time. Before you start spouting random insults at people, you might want to take a step back and realize that you are just jealous the person you are attempting to insult has already made it farther in life than you ever will, and if they haven't then you should eat your humble pie quietly and let them have their moment. Good luck in the real world, man are you going to need it.

@Brett from Atlanta Why is it trolling, to take exception to the undeserving receiving exposure?

As a matter of fact I've come to really like the Indie Pitch, because most of the time, the stories/backgrounds of the developers are really interesting.

This yokel and his cruddy tunnel game are not.

@everyone who replied so far to DeadRabbits:
Deadrabbits is honest and shares what he is thinking. No need to think about what is socially accepted! (all AAA-games already do this, by censoring games for us)
I think, however, his question is aimed at Joystiq: why give this game exposure?

I think if Joystiq would explain they randomly (not based on content) choose an app, DeadRabbits wouldn't have to make his post.

It irritates me to see how commenters find it hard to believe that DeadRabbits even dares to think this.
It's almost as if I'm in a small (backwards) town, with a high social control.
For me it was great to see DeadRabbits' post. At least he says what I was thinking.

To answer DeadRabbits: I think everyone that built a game deserves exposure because it's always interesting to talk about development.
(even if the game is, or looks like shovelware)

Yes but attacking Joystiq, and attacking the kid directly are two entirely different things. It's not as if this kid rang Joystiq and asked them to feature him. So the attack on him is unfair. If he would have done a better job at aiming his attacks at questioning Joystiq about why they chose this kid over someone else, without being a total twat to the kid, then I'm sure nobody would have minded the comments. Directly attacking the kid when the situation is not his to control is bogus.

@jinxvorheeze Yeah, because simply stating opinions, is akin to attacking? Hell it wasn't even really all that insulting.

He is also an adult. Not a kid. If he can't take the heat he can get out of the kitchen.

Also, contrary to popular belief, when you put something out there (Especially in a format like Indie Pitch, here on Joystiq) you should be more than ready to be praised or criticized.

I chose to critique him, in hopes that he will go back to the drawing board, and wait until he actually has something worth showing, and some of you choose to deep throat everything that comes down the pipe.

And I "attacked" the kid, because it's frustrating seeing so much junk FOR SALE that isn't worth the paper I wipe my ass with.

If critique is given on a game, should be taken in consideration how old the creator of the game (in the indie pitch) is?

Offtopic:
I notice how the downvoting-feature is being abused.
I think you should only downvote if the post is irrelevant or without arguments. DeadRabbits' posts contain both ingredients. Still it received a downvote from some people.

@edgemirror Look, I would rather people say something useful. How about telling me what you don't like about my game? I think its pretty good, and I worked hard on it. If you don't want it, don't buy it. Don't critique something you haven't tried.

@mguniverse Your entire game is in your trailer. Joystiq should screen for content, instead of throwing a dart at the pile of Indie developers that filled out a form. There are a great number of games with the exact same concept all over the internet, and I'm sure iOS.

Take it for what you will, but just like Rebecca Black making a million for polluting the entire internet with garbage, I take issue with someone that thinks they can make something simple (ghosts, and one color, barely any physics) and then charge a dollar for it.

If the mobile market is to be taken seriously, where great games cost a dollar, yours should cost YOU to even publish it for free.

I have the high score on this game right now, probably due to a lot of people not buying it yet, and I was very patient, but I didn't just download it, play it once, and put it down. First releases of games aren't always what the fame ends up bein a year down the road. I'm sure first ideas for angry birds weren't as great as that fame has molded itself to be, and that game has made millions. Point being, this game is brand new, no one said it was an original idea, but I personally haven't played a game like it. He's adding more content to it, possibly making the entire game change down the road, who knows. I don't care if he's 17, cuz like you said, he's pretty much an adult, but he also did it by himself and he has a reason to be proud. If this game sells well, he can take more time to make content, or develop ideas for other games later on, he may need to hire people at some point, who knows, he gets my props, I trusted joystiqs decision to feature his game, and I chose to try his game, and I'm glad I did, I won't be playing it for hours on end like final fantasy or angry birds, but if someone beats my score you better believe I'll try to take the thrown back.
