Call of Duty: Black Ops mod tools launching in May

Tired of all that silly "paying" for new Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer maps? We know, we know -- money is so 2010. Good thing for you, then, that Treyarch announced plans this week (via Twitter) to officially release the promised mod tools for Black Ops sometime this May.

The tools will, of course, only end up on the PC version of Blops, though considering that they never ended up in any version of Modern Warfare 2, we're looking at this as a pretty major improvement. Also, now we can finally live out that dream of recreating Super Mario Bros. stage 1-1 in Call of Duty. Wait ... what?!

Pc gamers get free mod tools, while console gamers get bent over the pinball machine.

@US 447 It's not like gamers aren't aware of the fact that the PC version of a game is the only one that gets mod tools.

Mod tools aren't the same as Lego tools, if you catch my drift.

UT3 mod tools were really just the PC tool set with maps being cooked for the ps3. But yeah, Farcry's was just lego.

Mods cant save this game.

As a PC gamer, I can't fathom paying $15 for additional maps. Since the dawn of PC gaming, modding and sharing maps has been one of the benefits and awesome aspects of the PC community. Unfortunately, companies are getting greedier and more hubris-like by releasing half-baked games and software in beta form ... Again, no way I would pay $15 for a few additional maps.

After the abysmal launch of BLOPS for the PC, I am glad Treyarch is releasing these modding tools to the PC community!

Also to note; that a lot of community maps are way better and balanced then the first-party maps.

Also; if there are glitches, the community solves super quick compared to the uber super slow corporate developers.

Hey Activision, your game doesn't sell as much Battlefield on PC. Yes we know; you guys sell boatloads on consoles but not on PC. Why?

Battlefield is Battlefield. No Need for Mod Tools to Sell Like Hot Cakes.

Call of Duty on the other hand....Needs more stuff then the same stuff every year.

Treyarch are getting fans to make mps because Treyarch can't do it themselves..since they only work in re-skins

I'll get Black Ops for the PC after they release mod tools. I've had a lot of fun learning to use mod tools with WaW. Still a noob but I enjoy it as much as playing the game.
