Sure, Hulu Plus may not be part of the public beta preview of this spring's Xbox 360 Dashboard update -- at least that's what Microsoft's saying -- but that doesn't mean we can't see what it may look like when it does launch, as scheduled, sometime in the next few months. Images sent to us by a trusted tipster show the Hulu Plus app in action (and being controlled by Kinect), as well as the revamped Kinect Dashboard.
Like the Netflix app, the Hulu interface resembles the Xbox Dashboard itself, offering a rotating layer of categories with selectable content. As for the updated Kinect Hub, it looks fairly similar to what is currently available on the Xbox, only it adds access to both Netflix and Hulu Plus.
Though our tipster doesn't know whether Hulu Plus will be added to the current public beta test of the next Dashboard update, our source did note that the application seems fully functional, as does Avatar Kinect (also not currently part of the preview). Our tipster said the Kinect-controlled Avatar showcase app wasn't especially exciting, but that "it was good at tracking my movements and the response time was pretty fast like everything else with the Kinect." Hopefully we'll find out for ourselves soon enough!

Now I have to pick between Netflix or Hulu Plus...

I really don't think they need to be mutually exclusive. They have some overlap, but both offer a decent amount the other doesn't & combined it's more than enough entertainment for me. Plus $16 a month total for both beats the hell out of the $60 a month I used to pay for the bare bones basic cable subscription I used to have.

Hulu plus so you can watch tv shows the day after they come out.
Netflix for movies and previous seasons of shows.
Together they don't cost much and are better than cable.

@XaiaX I don't think his point was the pricing, more that between Hulu Plus and Netflix it's absolutely no contest.
As someone who's used both services the only reason I can see to use Hulu Plus is if you NEED to catch up on this season of The Office RIGHT NOW.

Hulu's only benefit is its new shows, which are free on the computer, and TV for that matter since most of their new shows are on over the air network television. Youre paying $8 for HD on an Xbox. Netflix is the same cost but you get tons of old shows, lately theyve been making major deals with all the networks to bring even more stuff. Hulu's back catalog for TV can best be described as torture. The movie selection for streaming is crap but still infinitely better than the selection of movies from Hulu which is so bad that you wonder why they bother.
I have hundreds of hours of shows queued on netflix but every time I fire up Hulu I can never find anything to watch.

Thennnn when you get everything figured out, give me a holler. I'll be glad it was so easy to get accomplished.

I support the guy who was downvoted, and here's why.
Every fan of video games, music and movies should be able to enjoy them, wherever they live. That's a given. But on the other hand, posters from other countries often complain when something new is announced--and it's a real buzzkill, because the complaint is always the "sniff, we don't get it here yet, so we're being screwed." You will get it eventually.
And it pays to remember, you're complaining about American companies who must clear hurdles to sell in your country. They want your money. Also, if your country had its own version of Hulu, or Netflix, or Microsoft, you also wouldn't be on the outside looking in as often. Perhaps the complaint should be, "why doesn't my country have companies like this?"

I have a question. Do the same whales that write Family Guy also write American Dad and the Cleveland show?

American Dad as actual writers and Seth MacFarland isn't as involved in it.

Same artists buuut... American Dad seems to be a bit more focused on more realistic and serious things. It's like an ongoing family political cartoon except...funny. It does do the Family Guy reference jokes but they occur rarely. I'm not sure about the Cleveland Show. This is the first time i've heard of it, honestly.

So Hulu Plus will cost extra? It won't be included in our Gold subscription correct?
Posted: Apr 14th 2011 3:58PM JackAttacKania said
@BigE4284
Correct, hulu plus requires a subscription and will probably have an activation code just like Netflix does to activate use on Xbox.
Hulu plus seems a ripoff to me, why would I spend that much ($8/month) for a handful of reruns I could have DVR'ed/taped at home? A case could just as easily be made for movies, but is tv episodes 22 minuets long that important to warrant for that much of a subscription? I could rent with Game-fly for three individual 80+ hour games for that much, or wait for Netflix to carry to season disks and watch them all at once. Is watching some poorly written and cheesy as hell CBS or FOX show that important?

Hulu isn't a ripoff in the slightest. It provides tons of episodes of shows for FREE. Not everyone has cable or a DVR and Hulu is accessible right on a computer. Hulu PLUS is also great for catching up on old shows and otherwise expanding the catalog.

@Oneprcnt Same here, there is stuff on BBC (not BBC America, but the *original*) and Sky that's worth watching, but only Brits can get it. So when they whinge about not getting Hulu Plus or Netflix, take it with a grain of salt. ;-)

bahh, another extra pay service I won't be using... honestly how can people still fork over the sub fees to netflix, hulu and the like? Maybe I'm just the new poor.

@trefactor I am surprised Netflix is still as low as it is. For the amount I pay a month its the most valuable service I own.

@trefactor cable with premium channels and a few movies on demand a month only runs around $120/month a real bargain compared to netflix and hulu for $15/month.
you arent the new poor you are the new ignorant of current services. or you are elderly and afraid of change

Last I read, Hulu was getting screwed over by their parent company and about to loose a lot of it's content. Guess that's not happening.

How much is Hulu Plus? Does it cost anything? I already have Netflix on my Xbox and I have Hulu Plus on my PS3(PS+ Member) so if it costs anything on the Xbox I won't bother.

Netflix and Hulu Plus are about to start costing A LOT more for some of us, it won't take much to reach that cap AT&T is about to put on our internet.

@TylerDurden102680 why the hell are you still with AT&T?

It sucks but they are truly the only option where I live. That is the reason I believe they are capping. They used taxpayer money to run Internet to areas without Internet now they are capping to further profit off those who can't get cable broadband or other Internet services.

What kind of shows are on Hulu plus? Is it only network shows like Fox, Abc, etc or do they show stuff like Boardwalk Empire, Walking Dead, etc.?

It's def worth it to dump your cable and get netflix or hulu. Plenty of my friends did that awhile ago. The only problem is getting HBO/Showtime stuff.
Netflix is such a good deal. Way better than blockbuster ever was.
