Photos while playing are usually bad. Top and bottom screeshots look more on the ball than the 2 in the middle.

Because the game won't come out for quite a while. I think it's still in alpha so the graphics aren't what they're focusing on right now. I'm not saying it's going to be the best looking game ever, but it'll definitely look better than this when it comes out.

More than anything it looks like a capture issue. Like screencapping a youtube video.

Yeah, those or photos of the screen rather than screencapped through the system so they're going to look really bad.

@Urethra Alfredo Not sure how my comment showed hate, I loved the originals and have high hopes for this one, and I understand its probably in the alpha stage currently it just seems that the resolutions arent as high as most games on the ps3.

also, The main guy of the dev team isnt really bothered by graphics. This wont be a game that pushes the PS3 graphically, Its never what they intended to do.

Heavily compressed screen shots. Like someone else said, their capture tools could suck, though I would expect high quality screen shots to be used for public. I'm sure it will look completely different while in motion and being displayed pixel-by-pixel.

Like Sweet Tooth in Axel's vehicle!? Super rad!!!

I had some of the best times of my life playing Twisted Metal 1 through Black.

@DasMadHatter I don't really think you should have been down voted. It's a true statement based on these screens. It may be any number of things, but the game doesn't look like it's going to be all that beautiful. That said, I am not worried. As long as it plays well and I have fun, it can look as mediocre as it wants. I just want some good ol' TM!!!

I don't need this game to have nut-busting visuals.

What I need is for this game to move at an unwavering sixty frames-per-second during online play.

If that means the game won't have the visual fidelity of, say, God of War III?...

...I am totally OK with that.

Jaffe claims that this game is supposed to draw more aesthetic inspiration from TM2 than TM:B...

...though judging from, like, EVERY video I've seen of this new Twisted Metal, it almost seems like a direct sequel to TM:B. In tone, at least.

However, the return to live-action FMV is such a total throwback to the first TM. And rad.

Super rad.

Yeah, the game looks ugly. Yeah, modern gaming has probably left this kind of gameplay in the dust. Yeah, I probably won't have anyone to play this with on PS3.

But man... I can go for some Twisted Metal right now. Bring it on!

@MLS

Why do you think modern gaming has left this kind of gameplay in the dust? There hasn't been an update to this kind of demolition derby/shooter style gameplay since TM: Black, and that was what, ten years ago? I'm just saying, in those ten years we've seen evolution and innovation from third person shooters (cover mechanics, over the shoulder aiming), FPS (RPG elements, online play actually possible for consoles), and the hack n' slash (God of War changed that forever). Hell, look at fighting games. Ten years ago they were on the way out, and all it took was Street Fighter 4 to completely revitalize and bring back the genre.

I think the new Twisted Metal will definitely bring this kind of gameplay back, and it's about damn time.

Judging from the preview, it doesn't seem to me that they've made any significant tweaks to match up with the examples you gave. They're even playing with classic controls in order to pull off some of the crazy janky moves (just like MK and NBA JAM has left in for their reboots). They seem to be just bringing back the genre as it was without evolving it.

But like I said, right now, I'm down for some car combat, even if it's old-school. I'd be down for some Vigilante 8, even. Carmageddon... uuuh maybe not so much that.

@MLS : Carmageddon was awesome, they just screwed up by only putting co-op in ONE of the games (and it was limited). A game like this cries out for you and a friend to just go insane.

Kids and their obsession with graphics. I couldn't give a flying eff if the graphics are as rough as hell. As long as it moves at the rate of a bat on fire riding a hellhound its going to be amazing. This for me will be THE multiplayer experience of the year and rekindling those old memories will be even sweeter too.

I loved TM2. Had so many tourneys (along with Tekken 2, 3, and Gameday) in my basement with friends in high school once a week.

I seriously hope they have most (if not all) of the stages from TM2 and Black since I felt those were the strongest games in the series.

What is currently turning me off ATM is the fact that characters can inhabit and drive other characters vehicles. Part of what made the game were the crazy characters and their specific vehicles. If the characters in some way had specific stats that could stack on top of the stats of the different vehicles then I would be OK with that.

The other problem is I'm kind of sick of having the tiered "perk" system that almost every single MP game has adopted. Whatever happened with just having good old fashioned stats? I'd be OK with having unlockable colors/shades, decals, etc., but playing against other people who clearly have more time than I do who have all these benefits and advantages unlocked kind of dampen a bit of the fun factor for me.

I guess there's always the option of having a "traditional"/old school mode with no perks (a la hardcore mode in CoD).

@def PD : AMEN. And if there's no single-player option, they might as well just forget it. I hope its not another worthless "online only" title (i.e. we're too lazy or untalented to write an AI). A game like this screams for classic skirmish play, with AI's filling out the ranks not taken by human players.

According to David Jaffe, it was originally supposed to be an online-only affair that would've been released digitally on PSN.

Sony, however, kept coming back to Jaffe insisting he bring the game in line with the others in the franchise. In fact, it was Sony that insisted that there be a single-player campaign with a full story for each character, complete with the requisite twist endings.

Thank God. As a long-time fan of the series, I wouldn't have been down with a multiplayer-only iteration. The whole "be careful what you wish for" storylines for each character is such a defining aspect of the franchise.
