When are some people going to get this through their thick skulls? Ports are not the same as remakes.

And why would I care? Because each time someone talks about a remake of some game that I like, I get my hopes all up, and then it turns out to be a port. Damn you people! >:(

FF6 has never had a remake. I wish.

They added cutscenes to it...so that KINDA counts. Though, yes the meat of the game is exactly the same lol.

CutsceneS? Wasn't there just the one, the intro FMV? I don't remember exactly.

Ports are considered remakes. They're remade for the system using it. It isn't a rebuild, but a remake none-the-less.

Also, I found it hard to call the PS1 version a port. They cleaned up a lot of dialog and fixed a lot of the localization gaffs. The GBA version still reigns supreme though.

Ugh please don't. That's an extremely nitpicky definition and using it only spreads confusion.

Didnt the GBA 'port' have improved sprites and two new summons?

New summons, yes, but that's all as far as I know. The rest was still the same. I know FF4 and 5 have had their graphics redone at least once, but 6 already looks pretty great, there's not much to polish unless they were to go for a full on remake.

Where did XII come from all of a sudden? First 6, then 9, then an indirect acknowledgement to the popularity of 7, now 12?

That's pretty cool and all, but... can we get a FF6 remake on, say, 3DS?

Also, It's probably been pointed out, but this isn't a remake, but a port. And a pretty bad one, at that.

If you're asking for a 3D remake ala FF3/FF4 on the DS, screw that. FF3 was alright since it was foreign to me and it was a new experience all around. FF4 felt look it took the game I love, removed its soul and I watched puppets play out the story I knew so well while botching the whole emotional attachment to the characters bit. Don't know why, but the FF4 remake just felt subpar compared to the original SNES or GBA versions.

It might be sad if you already paid $30 when it came out. Otherwise, it's really still worth £30. Be thankful if they charge less than £10.

Having paid $30 for the SNES cart about a year ago, I must say this is a little sad, but at least I don't have to sit through incredibly long loading screens.

The PS1 port was oddly laggy a lot of the time. It never made sense to me how there'd be loading in the middle of a SNES game when you could essentially play Ridge Racer without the disc. Still, this needs to hit the US. Now.

I never finished the game because of the load times, but I wonder if they will be fixed due to the fact it's on the hard drive instead of 2x CD-rom?

There's nothing wrong with the original translation. You're not one of "those" people are you? Who think Chrono trigger's translation is "butchered" because Frog is named Frog and nor "Kero"? lol

@bm111 - I kind of agree - Ted Woolsey's translations were usually pretty good considering the crazy restraints they would put on him (here! translate Chrono Trigger in thirty days!) and they're generally pretty charming and funny, and to a degree, defined the writing style of the 16-bit era.

With that being said, what's more irksome is missing content and the censorship that Nintendo imposed back in the day - more of a problem of localization than translation I guess.

There is no missing content. Don't believe everything you read on the internet. What you heard is weeaboos arguing over different wordings translated from Japanese that all essentially mean the same thing, and then declaring that "half the script is missing".

It's bulls***. There's nothing missing.

@bm111 Ted Woolsey - you know, the guy who ACTUALLY TRANSLATED it - says differently.

http://www.playeronepodcast.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=145

"At any rate I had to get the thing done. I pounded through that as fast as I could and unfortunately my first deliverable to Tokyo, they took it and saw it was three or four hundred percent too big. And I was dumbfounded because I tried to be very concise and I think I did a pretty good translation. I felt really good about having captured a lot of the scatological humor, which of course would have to be expunged anyways for Nintendo's purposes. Some of the references to pop culture stuff that I thought were pretty cool and clever had to be ditched for branding and licensing and registration issues and stuff. At any rate, they said go back and shorten it. So I did another pass at the text and gave it back to them and it was still much too large. So I went back again and this time I threw my original translation in the trash can and just looked at each section and tried to re imagine it."

@bm111 Read: even ignoring the stuff cut for censorship reasons, the writing is severely truncated. It may include all "content," but the writing ends up eternally concise. Unless, of course, your argument is that Only Content Matters and delivery is irrelevant.

Ah, I see. You're one of "those" people who think different line delivery equals missing story. I know your precious interview, nothing in it says that anything was cut, just re-worded. Have fun playing your retranslations where "we'll go kill the monster" is wonderfully redone as "henceforth we shall slay this vicious beast of beastly evilness". See? Like 200% missing script added back right there!

I'm not getting into this any further again, you idiots can just go boil in your own little stinky stew.
