Nintendo Wii listed for $170 at all major US retailers

Well folks, it's not quite May 15 just yet, but it seems that big box retailers have already begun offering discounts on the Nintendo Wii, dropping the price from $200 to $170. It's not exactly a full-on, official price drop -- not yet, at least -- but it certainly looks like one is imminently approaching.

As indicated last week by a leak at Target and corroborated by listings on the websites of GameStop, Toys 'R Us, and Best Buy, various versions of the Nintendo Wii console bundle are being offered for $170 as of today. Best Buy even got in on the action a bit early over this past weekend. However, if what we've heard about an official price drop in mid-May for the Nintendo Wii is true, then you may just want to wait another few weeks and save yourself a full $50.

No reason to buy this now that the WII HD will be out later this year.

Rumours are that there will be a successor announced at E3.

Even if the rumours are true, I very much doubt it will release before October 2012.

Under that logic, no one would ever buy Apple products as they come out once a year. I think you'll have plenty of time to play the Wii before good games come out for it's successor.

@(Unverified) His logic may be bad but honestly $170 is to much for an HD-less system. I was thinking about geting one at $150 when the rumor was that it would be $150 and no update coming up. Yes the difference is just $20, but I don't have all the things I do by paying a bit more for things that I consider a fair price for.

Looking around $200 -$210 for Canadian retailers, for those interested. Can't remember what the price was before (or if that's even a drop).

It's actually $179.99 at BestBuy right now.

Walmart still lists all Wiis for $199 so it's not "all major US retailers."

Hey give them a break. The people who work and shop at Walmart are severely overweight. They'll get to the price tag, you just gotta give them a couple days.

The basic wii system has about a $50 value.

The wii has to be one of the most useles items i've ever purchased.
And now that the kinect is out, the wii looks and feels like an antique.

Are we not dropping the price of our used Wii's in addition to our new ones?

A mere forty dollar difference between new and used? And the new ones come with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort? And a Wii MotionPlus remote?

You see what I'm getting at here, Gamestop?

I'm not talking about virtue, I'm talking about common sense.

If GameStop dropped the price of a used Wii to one hundred dollars, I would buy without question.

And so would the other six people in America who held out this long.

I just got one off Amazon with these games:

Metroid: Other M
Trauma Team
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Monster Hunter Tri
Sin and Punishment: Star Successor

That should cure me of my "why aren't these games on ps3" disorder I've had to deal with all these years.

Wow. That's more or less the same list of games I'm eyeing, as well.

With the addition of Goldeneye, Madworld, Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Epic Mickey and Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Especially Donkey Kong Country Returns.

@Urethra Alfredo Yeah most of those games are on sale for stupid cheap prices on Amazon right now. That's what made me pull the trigger more than the Wii price drop.

Well it won't be out until end of 2012 and probably with $300 price tag if not more.

I should've waited a couple of week to cop my wii...Now they throw this shit at me...

with sony ps3 with move and microsoft xbox360 with kinect nintendo needs to setep the game up...

lets see how it go, i hope that we dont get hyped like the 3ds to end up with a disappointment

That's 100 dollars too much still.

Meh, i bought mine from a pawn shop for a hundred dollars and it works just fine.
