Shigeru Miyamoto has a habit for developing games that show off the strength of new Nintendo platforms -- and it sounds like he's planning on doing so once again for the 3DS. Speaking to Edge, Miyamoto explained now that Nintendo has finished developing the 3DS hardware, it can "focus more on gaming" in the coming year, adding that we can expect "remakes of games on 3DS as well." When asked for a specific title he'd like to see remade, Miyamoto reached into his own back catalog, answering, "I think A Link To The Past."
Deciding that wasn't enough of a pseudo-sadistic tease, Miyamoto explained some of the functionality he'd like to see in a 3DS Link to the Past remake. "Do you remember Xevious," Miyamoto asked. "It's two-layered and I really wanted to create that at the time. So to see Link To The Past in two layers would be quite attractive for me." Such a remake sounds just perfect for the 3D Classics section of the 3DS eShop -- a storefront which, serendipitously enough, will play host to a renovated version of Xevious itself.

I just played it last year and thought it was better than a large majority of current gen games I own. To each their own.

When you play a game where a 6x6 pixel creature is your greatest adversary, when you need to go a few frames away to get to Kakariko, when you hardly know what do next and there's no help or tutorial function... you FEEL it. That horrible yet pleasant old school gaming scent.

I think Alundra (the first) did an amazing job of doing a Zelda-style game.

In all due respect, here's an idea, Miyamoto-san.
Instead of yet another $40 remake of a game I played and beat to death 20 years ago, how about a proper sequel, instead?
Or is actually making NEW games, instead of ripping off your fans by rehashing all your greatest hits (at full price, no less) too much of a challenge for Nintendo these days?

Link to the Past was worth $40+ Dollars back then on the SNES I'm sure an ENHANCED Remake will be worth even more giving us more content than what we even pay for.
And a Zelda game with a 2 behind it? That's CraZy.
They have been making NEW games.
Nintendo Characters are weird....most of them are familiar characters...BUT they are always in amazing different adventures and situations. And with Link that rings trust the most because no LINK has USUALLY been the same.
And I Never feel Ripped off by playing a new Nintendo first party game :~/
Super Mario Galaxy is NOTHING like the Orginal Super Mario Bros.
Sure I see where your saying but I Think the only thing that's really be similar about most Nintendo games are the foundation it's the details that make all the games feel so different, fresh, and new. Along with the Familiarity.
Cause while I know that games from other companies may be hit or miss.
I know that games from Nintendo (first or second party) are usually going to be awesome.
The characters maybe the same (sometimes) the experiences are always fresh, fun, and different

Well he's right and wrong if you interpret the statement like that, since the OoT link and MM link are the same as with the WW, PH, and ST link. ...Then again, there is some sort of trilogy there. For the most part, Link has played the following roles:
"princess knight"
"forest boy (chosen one)"
"zelda's old friend"
"guy who got caught up in things"
If you follow the games, you'll notice the links usually have different hair styles depending on which Link they are. I like how TP link is a fusion of all of them, though. :D

Agreed.
Remakes are okay, but a NEW game would be appreciated. It's really just a money grab. Personally I would buy this one since I only got about half way though on VC, and it was an awesome game.
I don't have anything against remakes, but please start making some new stuff as well. Not watered down and easier like NSMB either.

@Dirty If the original wasn't good then it wouldn't be an easy cash grab so people saying that it is is kind of a compliment more than a insult.
Plus the game came out over 20 years ago :~/ i'm sure the remake will be fresh and new also most of this gens gamers probably weren't even born then so it will be introducing them to a great game.

Christ Xevious the game that in some ways got me into Shmups. I haven't played that in years. Anyhoots back to LTTP while I had thoughts of purchasing a 3DS, this almost seems like Wata and Miyamoto are pushing me to the store.

As much as I love waving my arm at the TV..The Wii motion deal just feels stupid on Twilight Princess. The Gamecube controller just wasn't very comfortable, in my opinion. I hated the button placement.
The N64 controller is easily my least favourite. The analog stick was terrible.
@TraceurRyuk Part III
I guess I should've said Gameboy/Advance. The issue I had with Wind Waker was the art direction. Wasn't a fan of it at all. Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks were along the same lines, I couldn't make myself even finish those two.

@iceveiled Yeah your right....I Guess Nintendo should follow the influence of other companies and make more shooters or games with dark stories that younger people can't even buy but will buy anyway playing online and leading to MORE people complaining about kids online and MORE people complaining about how games are becoming the same and how they miss how games used to be....games like Link to the past....of wait... >_>
