I think I can respect that, and will look at what he makes in the future.

I HATE when a designer leaves without finishing there game.

@Faenix

that rarely, and for happens for many reasons.. one is legal biding like a contract, so to back out would cost an insane amount of moeny. The other is respect, if someone leaves then it will send out a message of "this game if failure so i'm backing out" which isn't good for the devs who are making the game.

Like XBL wouldn't go down by the same attack. Heck, I think XBL went offline for a while around Christmas one year because of new members.

XBL has never gone down for over 24 hours. Quit trying to draw focus on something hat has nothing to do with Sony's failure

@Cleric Christmas 2007, XBL suffered major outages ... that's why Microsoft gave everyone Undertow for free.

But who cares what happened to whom and when, and who does what better or what have you ... let's just hope PSN gets back up and nothing like this, be it from illicit activity or an overage of users, ever befalls PSN or XBL again.

"XBL has never gone down for over 24 hours."

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/30/breaking-xbox-live-is-down/
"Xbox Live recently underwent a 26-hour offline maintenance on Monday but throughout the day today users complained of issues from downloading content, playing online games and in minor cases connecting at all."

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/30/xbox-live-has-had-a-rough-holiday/
"If you've been gaming online for the past week you've probably experienced some craptacular Xbox Live service. Problems that run the gamut of absolutely no Xbox Live connection to spotty matchmaking and messaging."

Yeah, Live has never been down for more than a day... I mean, I love Live, and I still need to get a new 12 month and get back into Reach, but to say that it's never had it's share of problems is ridiculous.

Maybe his heart wasn't in it. I bet whatever he does it won't feature Move or 3D.

While Im enjoying socom4, SP right now obviously. I hope he and his new company create a pre-COD style shooter w/o killstreaks, weapon unlocks, XP points or respawn based gameplay.

And focus on a great 3rd/1st person shooter. Based on skill and teamwork.

Hated the socom 4 beta but I ended up buying it and so far it's actually pretty fun. I'm kind of surprised by how good the graphics are in the campaign. Minus the "story" the combat has an uncharted vibe to it. So far so good. Not sure how much competitive multiplayer I'll play but I can see myself going through single player a few times. I just need to get the tactical controls down ... Not have much success flanking or sniping with gold team.

I'm tempted to pick this up, though I hated the beta passionately. Plus the fact it picked up a scathing review here and many other places.

Something might be going on over at Zipper. Or maybe it's just regular turnover, seems to be the case with alot of video game jobs.

I noticed that one of the guys featured in a dev video for MAG left the company a short while after it was released, maybe even before.

Another person who was a producer on that game that I know (a little) left as well.

then there's this guy...

so yeah, not sure.

these people probably just get burned out. when you work in a creative field, a job where you work on the same idea year after year gets old very quick

Who knows, he might create an avant-garde piece of beautiful game design with no combat. If I'd been stuck making SOCOM for 8 years, I think I'd want a break.

Ok I can tell you guys what definitely went down.

So this Steiner guy, being with Zipper, and the lead designer for their SOCOM games, probably wanted to take SOCOM back to its own roots, the good 'old SOCOM 2 days when the franchise was at its peak for sales and popularity.

But guess what, fast forward to 2010/2011 and they won't let him do that. Guess what happens next? They force the poor schmuck to make a subpar (in comparison to older SOCOM games) 3rd person shooter that just STINKS of being a CoD clone, and is nowhere near what the original SOCOM titles were.

So, seeing how they destroyed his child basically, he said F**K IT and left.

Can't blame him, I would have done the same. They ruined one of the best franchises Sony had.

Wish him the best of luck.

@BoBsS Dude I don't know what game you played but it wasn't SOCOM 4. Its no where near being a CoD clone. SOCOM 4 is very tactical, the CoD franchaise is centered on fast twitch, run and gun style play. SOCOM 4 makes heavy use of the cover system - not gonna find that in CoD. There's no perks or kill streaks either. The Bad Company 2 series is more of a CoD clone then anything. BTW if EA/DICE n00bs up BF3 to appear to the CoD heads I am gonna be mucho pissed but that's a totally different topic!
