It's backwards and forwards at the same time. Mostly, it just does everything. If there's a law for something, we probably have it!

There are people with too much time on their hands everywhere. Retired people and college students are the only ones with enough time to give a crap about stupid issues like this. You never see a single mom trying to feed her three kids go to a town hall meeting to protest worthless crap like this. It seems like in the absence of real problems, the human mind just makes up stupid problems to fret about.

Yeah it is strange.... they didn't even consider the possibility of being a spooky coastal town full of mutant fish people ruled over by an elder god.

Hear them chant,
Chant chant chant

I'a Dagon!
I'a Chtuhlhu!

I mean it is a perfectly respectable state for a coastal town and not even to have it on the table :( for shame.

Pretty sure gambling is already illegal there, except for the Indian casino they're planning on building (and the lottery, and Keno...)

Hmm.. I don't know. It seems like a good ban to me. They probably should go ahead and add books to that ban also. Don't need any of the townsfolk getting all uppity with their reading and writing.

im confused... is this woman STILL advocating that Arcade Machines are the devil? Does she realize its not still 1982?

and WTF does this mean?

"We are not talking about little video games that kids play or pinball machines. We are talking about slot machines, gambling machines," adds Jean in the WCBV Boston report.

ok so shes not talking about machines for kids...
"Coin-operated devices are one more thing your kids will be asking money for.
they'll ask for quarters for keno or blackjack? what?

so... wait...
After all, state law permits Keno to be allowed in bars and other public buildings in town.

this article confuses me...

is she talking about Galaga or gambling machines?

It sounds like the ban that hit Greece. They outlawed video gambling devices, and video games fell into the description, so video games were banned for a short time.

It could probably be a case of this town thinking all arcade games were the same way back in the 80's, so they had the law passed, and didn't think too much more about it until now.

Amazing to think the states who are more liberal in ideas, put these kind of bans on entertainment. Like NY banning pinball years ago. Gambling has always been a way to put fear in to people about video games, cause you know, they go hand in hand... its like smoking marijuana leads to smoking crack!

All this talk about that the Arcade is dead is kinda sad to me. I loved arcades as a kid, now the only one I know is don by the Jersey shores. Hell, its one of the top 3 reason to go to the beach now a days, Following hot girls in little clothing, and the dangerously unsafe bear rides where you can spin way faster then a person should be able too.

I live in MA and also work at an arcade here in this state, and that is the most stupid ban I've ever heard of.

People are allowed to have a fun time playing games, and it just shows that some towns are too butt-hurt to think that people are spending money on stuff they want to ENJOY, like video games as an example.

As an arcade worker, I REALLY hope this repeal passes.

So here's the thing about towns near the coast and along Cape Cod: they're really quite pretty and quaint. The main businesses in many of the towns are not big chains, but mom and pop stores and restaurants. It's a little ridiculous that this was even a ban in the first place, but when you visit the area, it makes sense.

Hell, I remember when there was a big controversy over allowing Dunkin Donuts along the Cape. There are now a gazillion DD's up and down the coastline, but every single one does NOT look like a typical fast-food chain. The buildings are built to look like everything else in the area and the signs typically have a nice gold font instead of bright neon colors.

Proof there is stupidity everywhere. If this was in a Southern town, people would be doing all sorts of "look at them rednecks" comments.

I dunno why they even care about lifting the ban. Are people even going to give a damn? Or maybe they will and then the machines will be banned again because people were deprived of then for too long.

I see some of these people yelling at kids to turn down their damn hippity hop music and pull up their pants.
