Fallout: New Vegas patch being patched on Xbox 360, decline update for now
68
The recent patch for Fallout: New Vegas on Xbox 360 is gonna need a patch. Bethesda has confirmed that it has found a solution to an issue in the current patch, causing "problems with game saves." The company says it will replace the corrupting patch "as soon as humanly possible."
It's not clear what will happen to save files for people who already downloaded the broken patch, but the company recommends users "decline the update until the new one is live." We've followed up with the publisher for more details.
Update: Bethesda has posted that the update for English regions should go live later tonight. For other languages, the wait is going to be a bit longer. The company will update when it has a better idea.

I personally think it's hilarious that they release patches to fix bugs...but release more bugs in the patches.

I downloaded it yesterday, Stopped all my saved games from loading.
I went into Data storage management and deleted the update (and all others) and was able to load my game and play.
This is the last game I will ever purchase that Obsidian has anything to do with. Fool me twice and all.

@Mrblonde57 they get a lot of flack for KOTOR 2, undeservedly. It might be justified with FNV and Alpha Protocol, not really sure what the publishing environment was like for those, but they were under extreme pressure from lucasarts with KOTOR. It's truly astounding they were able to make such an incredible game with the hand they were dealt.

@jynxycat
Exactly.
KOTOR 2 was similar to Fallout New Vegas in the adding some really neat ellements that make everything kinda cooler, and then short changing the entire game in some other way.
In KOTOR 2 it was the incomprehensible ending. In Fallout NewVegas it's the ludicrous number of bugs at every level.
As a studio they have potential, some good ideas, and add things that make games cooler... but their follow through and completion of a project is miserable.

@jynxycat yeah I got that, what I'm saying is with KOTOR 2 at least it wasn't there fault.
@Hunter Maybe that's true with Fallout, but KOTOR 2 did a lot more than just make it kinda a little bit cooler. The writing and the characters was a thousand times deeper, more mature and enthralling, but more important than that, the influence system! That was such an incredible feature that still appalls me that more games don't use it, that was a real game changer there and nobody picked up on it.

For the love of all that is holy, Bethesda. You better get your shit in order for Skyrim.
This happened in Oblivion, Fallout 3, and this as well. It's not like corrupt save games completely ruin the experience or anything.

This is just getting ridiculous. Reminds me of what David Jaffe was saying about how games are released unfinished and are fixed with patches. Remember back in the day before patches? They worked or were broken. I like patches but not the way Vegas and many other games have had to fix issues that should have been addressed during the development process.

Twisted Metal and God of War do not even remotely compare to the depth of a piece of software similar to a Bethesda RPG.
If you want complexity from your software you have to accept occasional failure and save often. Games are no different.
Stop being so arrogant about software design; get a degree and join the team if you think it can be done better.

Sorry, dude. There's a difference between a patch or two to fix minor issues and what happened w/FONV. They essentially released a game in Beta form - I've never seen such a myriad of game breaking issues in a AAA title.
The games' conception and systems were brilliant but the execution was a flat out embarassment to Bethesda and Obsidian - especially Obsidian - whose track record is horrendous at this point.

Jesus effing Christ. I toyed with the idea of firing this game up and giving it a second chance after the last huge save game corruption bug. Reviews for this game were so great, and I want to like it, but sorry. How do you patch something and then eff up the patch?! Honestly.... Angry Rudy!... 'cause it's only Friday morning and I want it to be Friday night.

@Mrblonde57 minus the myriad of bugs and cut content you mean. I will never buy another game made by Obsidian, they don't take the time to make sure their games work properly, so I won't waste my time and money trying to find a good game beneath the shit on the surface.

This is why I STOPPED PLAYING NEW GAMES!! Seriously, you know what I've been playing lately? Civilization IV. (that's 4, not 5) When Civ IV came out, it was probably $50. Each expansion, $30? The standalone Colonization, another $30-50? yeah, you can get Civ IV Complete which has both expansions, Colonization, and every patch ever for $20 now, and you don't need the hottest latest greatest computer to play it.
I'm sure I'll get around to Fallout 3 and all its descendants in a few years. By then all this crap will be ironed out.

You are crossing the streams on multiple topics.
This isn't about DLC, the prices, or the demands of the systems.
The frustration here is about crap code being sold at full game prices, receiving patches to alleviate errors but ending up creating NEW errors.
This is the sign of the times, and the customer loses in the end.

@CaptainProtonX YUP. With game prices staying relatively flat in the last five years(All AAA games have always been $60 +/- $5) the developers are obviously trying to cut corners because production costs have gone up which has whittled down their profit margin signifcantly. What I don't understand, is how games like Halo and MW are the same price as games like Fallout which have no multiplayer. In less than 3 years we'll have to pay to play online with all AAA games - GUARANTEED!
