Hirai to address PSN security breach at 1 a.m. EDT

Though we've been getting frequent updates from PlayStation Blog on the state of the recently intruded-upon PlayStation Network, one of the massive corporation's higher-ups is now planning to step forward to field some of our questions. According to Reuters, Sony Corp executive deputy president Kazuo Hirai is scheduled to address the media about the PSN outage and security breach in Tokyo tomorrow at 2 p.m. (1 a.m. EDT).

The predicament must be weighing heavy upon Hirai, who was promoted last month to a position meant to groom him for possibly inheriting the CEO seat from Howard Stringer. Then again, this might be the perfect opportunity for Hirai to set himself apart from the other contenders: If he singlehandedly manages to fix these problems using the ol' Hirai charms, he's a lock for the job.

I sold mine yesterday but I only had a few games so I didn't get much for it. My PSP went for more but my PSP library was vast and had some rare games.

Probably will put the money towards my new Mac Pro.

You do know buying every system does not make you a real gamer right? It makes you a consumer whore. This is the oldest and lamest excuse in the book, "I buy everything so I MUST be a real gamer." A real gamer is somebody who plays games avidly not somebody that blindly runs out and plunks down money.

You sold a console that has hundreds of AAA titles for a handheld that has maybe one or two decent games and a handful of ports not even out yet. Yeah, have fun with that.

Maybe he really enjoyed a lot of the titles on the DS and Wii, and has hopes that Nintendo and other developers will release some more quality material on the 3DS.

He also stated he didn't play his PS3 much. This event was just conviction to sell his console for a different console he feels will give him more entertainment value.

Why keep something around just to gather dust?

That doesn't make sense to me. Why would you buy a system early on with "hopes" that they will get some quality material? Why wouldn't you just wait until it actually does, by then the price will be lowered too. Then again, maybe I'm just using common logic.

Considering at launch there was 7 games I wanted for the 3DS. Then from May onwards seems to be a steady streatm of atleast 2+ games I want permonth it was a fair purchase for me.
Also because sometimes launch year games and such get rare rather quickly.

The quality of content that can be found on PC easily outweighs the amount that can be found on a PS3.

So why should I keep something around if I can play the same games at a better framerate with PhysX, and also cheaper?

Or you know, a true gamer may just be that person that plays, enjoys and supports games, regardless of platform or opinions from other people, a person that can make his or her own judgment on quality. You don't need to eat games to be a true gamer, just support the industry and be informed about it.

I think a lot of people will be more confident in Sony if they have a "higher up" explaining everything himself rather than allowing all the public interface to go on behind a computer screen.

Also, Sony, this press conference would be a nice time to reveal the addition of features that would have required a full network restructuring to introduce as an apology gift to your consumers for this whole mess. *cough* XGC *cough* Probably just wishful thinking...

Didn't Nintendo - the guys who make the #1 home console and whose have the most recognizable name in the gaming world - announce a successor to the Wii this week? That should have been huge news. The fact that Sony completely overshadowed that by screwing up means that they have a massive PR problem.

Besides it was in the news. But the fact that data has been stolen, well that's monumental. It could even spell the end of Sony (last place in console and handheld markets, and now this). This is much more serious.

On this being an announcement of an announcement for Wii 2: Yeah, but that would normally be huge news. They have confirmed a time frame that's not too far off in the future and they've confirmed that it exists. When Nintendo was gearing up the Wii there were a crap-ton of pre-announcement, speculative stories. We've seen a couple of mentions of possible specs, but the Wii's official unveiling was preceded by months of speculation about the new hardware specs. That's true for most next gen systems, as well. As soon as there's enough to speculate about it becomes a major part of the gaming news cycle. People like us who visit these sites will read even the slightest, most insignificant scrap of information about a new console, so this sort of thing can easily take over a site like this.

On Sony being screwed: Yeah, I know, that's kind of my point. If past news cycles on new consoles is any indication, Wii 2 should have been the big conversation over the last couple of weeks. Screwing up so bad that you can kill new console news - even pre-announcement stuff - is beyond bad.

Maybe he's going to show them a new Sony task force made of popular game characters that go after hackers. I wouldn't hack Sony if Kratos kicked down my door and shoved a sword up my ass.
