I dunno. Ukraine has the least amount of accounts, and probably the highest probability of having their identities stolen. :D

Wait, no US accounts were compromised?

This doesn't show how many were compromised. Just the regional breakdown of total accounts.

How so? This chart just details how many PSN accounts are worldwide. "Wondering how at risk your country is percentage-wise for theft identity due to PlayStation Network's recent breach?" Re-read first sentence! lol

Well that's why I asked. I don't know if he's assuming. I don't know if he thinks this was the actual numbers of accounts affected (like other comments in the article, like the ones below us) or if he's referring to the nature of this whole situation. So that's where my the question "How so?" comes into play. This is how we learn, we ask questions. Knowledge is power! ;)

I feel like the Saudi Arabia number is too low. Every round of Uncharted 2 I play has someone with "KSA" in their name.

I've always known "KSA" to mean Kick Some Ass... What does it really mean?!

I stand corrected? Apparently this is just a list of the number of accounts per country?
In which case this list is completely useless to everyone, as there is no information as to how many of those accounts were stolen or how many had CC info linked to them.

Yeah you skipped chart reading class apparently. To address all your points / questions:
If you add up all the account #s in the chart it's about 78 million which is the number Hirai said in the press conference JC covered.
All accounts were compromised. It's just a matter of whether or not they have the CC info.
In that same conference he said there were 10 million active credit cards tied to PSN accounts.

I am the smrt! That's s-m-r-t...I mean...s-m-a-r-t!
Truthfully though...why the list of accounts per country? Can we get a tally of *actual* compromised accounts or fraud attempts....I can't keep up with all this sensationalizing anymore.
Not a crack on you guys directly Joystiq, its a general comment to the media in general....all that is going on right now is feeding on fear, I'm starting to feel for the people that don't know any better.

The tally of actual compromised data is ALL OF IT. The whole database. In the US, that'd be 31 million or whatever it says there (I can't be bothered to scroll up).
Whether any of the data is or will be actually used for identity theft, obviously no-one has records on yet. But hackers had access to the whole database.
There is some question remaining about credit card data, not sure the situation there, but to be honest that doesn't matter much anyway - just keep an eye on your statement. You can't lose any money from credit card fraud, unless you're a retailer - credit card companies push all fraud losses onto retailers.
(I.e. say somebody buys a $500 product using your stolen credit card. You call up your credit card provider and they cancel the charge, meaning you lose $0. They then don't pay the merchant who sold the product, meaning the merchant loses $500. To add insult to injury, they then usually apply an extra charge, $10 or $25 or something, to the merchant just for kicks. So anyhow as long as you are not a merchant you're good... and even if you are a merchant, I doubt that an extra few million credit card numbers - without 3 digit CVV codes - will really make much difference to the fraud rate.)

OK, I may just be stupid but I need someone to clarify this for me:
1) What is a "Countire"?
2) How does this show "how at risk my country is percentage-wise for theft identity"? I just see sheer account numbers.
3) What does this number mean? Pure number of accounts? Number of accounts that were compromised? Number of accounts that WEREN'T compromised?

I'm surprised there were so many from the UK, or as Sony call it; Great Britain. A quick scan has us at 2nd place. Surprised there weren't more in the US considering how many people live there.
PS3 penetration must be insane here. Oh well. I haven't been part of that crowd since Friday.

Shows how bad your geography of your so called own country is then. The UK is England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland yes, otherwise called (since 1927) Great Britain.
Jeez, even I know that, and I live in a cave in the midwest.

Yet everyone else calls it the UK. Even on PSN itself when I set up my account it said "UK".
Not once, beyond history documentaries and adverts have I heard Great Britain.

There is a reason why the full name of the UK is 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'.
Great Britain = England, Scotland and Wales
United Kingdom = England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
Therefore, they should have put UK.

So your now part of the minority that over reacted and sold your system. Awesome, have fun missing out on all the great games for the remainder of 2011 and 2012. Maybe the person that bought your system will be a little more level head that you.
