What we didn't know was that the trailer would surpass the quality bar we set for the film in our mind's eye when the Volition/Syfy collaboration was first announced. However, seeing as how this is a SyFy Original movie which is also a video game adaptation, our expectations were that upon watching the film, our eyeballs would be instantly incinerated. We might -- might -- just be safe from that fate.
Red Faction: Origins trailer defies our expectations

So, the very first trailer for SyFy's upcoming original film, Red Faction: Origins is posted right after the jump. It seems like it might present a fairly true-to-its-source story to bridge the canonical gap between Red Faction: Guerrilla and Red Faction: Armageddon -- of course, we knew that before watching the following video.

That's because it is.
Or are you confirming that it is indeed a Syfy movie?

Still looks meh.
But I was hoping for a Guerrilla Warfare-esque version of Band of Brothers set in the Red Faction universe.
Oh well. Maybe I'll check it out.

It looks alright. Still looks like another rubbish Syfy Original.
Sad really. Red Faction is a pretty awesome game series.
I would say better luck with the Metro 20xx adaptation, or the Darksiders adaptation, but I know so long as they are in bed with Syfy, the end results will be just shy of a Uwe Boll-helmed adaptation.

@thedisagree Why do you remember the guys from Ultraviolet? For that matter why do you remember anything from Ultraviolet? I have finally purged all remnants of that dungfest from my memory and you bring it back up. Actually calling it dungfest is an insult to dung.

Sounded better in my head... Robert Patrick is looking more like Anthony Hopkins than T1000, these days.

Still more people above me who don't actually know what a Sci-Fi Original Movie is.
Of course the movie still looks pretty weak.

@j4d3 Yeah im gonna have to disagree on that. RFG's destruction's are pretty detailed.

It looks promising. That shot of Mars looks like Red Faction, and it's nice that they're using the characters and technology of RFG without being slavishly tied to it. Case in point is Alec Mason...although seriously, in 30 years he can buy a new coat, guys.
My guess is that it'll be an average-to-poor movie, but at least it'll be part of the Red Faction story. I can't remember - is this the first time we've seen this? That a game's TV show or movie is actually part of the story, rather than a side-story, reimagining, inspired-by, or retelling?
