Right? It really will depend on the year. It might actually be both in the same game. It was Constantinople until 1453...so yes.. Possibly great excitement (well, terror) may be happening in the city if they're setting the game in the mid-1400's.

I saw some other dudes speculating that Altair was in one of the other reveals. And the string of numbers matches up with the random file names the teaser flashes and one of the other file's number matches Altair's birthday.
And since the city is so old, maybe the rousing conclusion of Assassin's Creed is going to be Altair, Ezio, and Desmond all exploring Istanbul/Constantinople in parallel.

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam,
Why they changed it I can't say,
People just liked it better that way!

@Erluti That's an interesting thought. If that isn't the case, my best guess is that it would take place in "Istanbul," since the last game took place in the early 1500's (and we can assume it would jump forward in time).

I wouldn't doubt they would somewhere down the road. It's a series with a ton of potential where the story of assassins can tie in with practically any timeline.

Wait a minute.. ENHANCE!!

At precisely the 0:07 mark I can see a small smudge. That must mean the PC port is going to be an utterly useless afterthought with stale console visuals and questionable methods of DRM.

Nice try, Ubisoft.

Yeah. I'll still bitch about a single player game forcing an internet connection at all times. I think that's a pretty reasonable thing to bitch about.

I'd wager this is more likely to be a hint at Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy. So far, all the details on that are that it's being developed for the 3DS, it stars Ezio, and it takes place in Syria. Turkey doesn't seem that unreasonable a leap to make; there's no reason the game couldn't feature two cities or more.

Of course, I could be totally wrong and the 3DS spinoff might simply bridge the gap between Brotherhood and the game they're teasing. Whatever the case, I was under the impression they were teasing a game set in colonial America.

I had my money on the Cro-Magnon era.

F*ck horses. Ride your giant mammoth into battle and tell your Brotherhood of Cavemen to stealthily eliminate any resistance by running around waving giant clubs and screaming at the top of their lungs.

And then there would be finger painting.

It seems like an era in history perfectly suited to the subtle nuances of the established Assassin's Creed gameplay.

Besides, think of the all the money that could be saved on voice acting. All instances of "who did this?" and "get down from there" could quite easily be replaced with "DAARRRRRRRRRR!"

@DarknessBear

He didn't get bored with B.C.

On the contrary, in several interviews, he made the following statements:

-"B.C. will not just be the greatest video game ever created, it will be the greatest achievement any human being has ever accomplished. It will make space travel look like a fidgety fourteen year-old boy fumbling with a bra hook."

-"I just showed B.C. to several of our stock holders. They wept openly, denounced their Lord and hailed me, Peter Molyneux, the new savior of the human race. They then immediately committed suicide, knowing that their was nothing greater to experience in life than witnessing my genius."

"B.C. is a game that cannot be contained on the Xbox. It is like trying to contain the unfathomable awe and splendor of God Almighty in a wet paper bag. I've chosen to cancel B.C. due to the fact that no hardware that man or beast will ever create could possibly hope to support my transcendental game code."

So yeah, you know, just the normal Molyneux song and dance.

I'm a little disappointed that the setting is so similar the the last two. They have a LOT of potential timelines to play with. But it's a similar time (and therefor tech) as the last two, in a setting closer to the first game. As great as Brotherhood is, I hope they come up with something to change up the gameplay a little.

@DenebSwift I agree. I was hoping for a change in scenery, too. Like, maybe post-Colonial Caribbean, or maybe a storyline involving the Mayans. They could tie in a connection to the Mayan calendar with the whole story on Creation they have going in the series.

@Batman I'm Armenian and that whole attitude led up to the genocide. Some Turks kill Armenians, some Armenians kill Turks, and then the Turks just got justification for the genocide.
While people should never forget what happened, we must get rid of the attitudes that lead to such atrocities. If the Armenians were the majority and the Turks, a rebelious minority, you sound like you would do the same exact thing they did.

Well spoken, I agree that blind hatred is not the answer.

Although, I heavily disagree with your implication that the Genocide was provoked in some manner. All we asked for is freedom, and they gave us Genocide.

Today, Istanbul is still a very unaccepting place.
