I know absolutely nothing about this game, but if Bethesda has a hand in it then I don't doubt it will be, at the very least, extremely entertaining.

And I know I'm thankful for that.
Less they have to do with the game the better.
On a positive note, the game looks awesome. I love the art style, and it seems like a nice extension on the TF2 style of play (one of my favourite FPSs). Can't wait to get my hands on it.

@The Scout Oh ok, that explains why the trailer didn't look quite as mind-blowingly awesome as The Elder Scrolls or Fallout. Might still be a good game, though, even without Bethesda.

I'm hopeful for this game, but I still just don't know. It sounds amazing on paper and then the gameplay looks lackluster. We shall see Tuesday I guess.

this exactly the type of game that I'll hold of on untiI see youtube videos of people actually playing it.
these videos are nice but they aren't filled with kids that play 12 hours a day glitching, spawn killing and abusing certain weapons

@eat it I certainly hope that this game has been play-tested to death, moreso than mw2.
It's a shame that that people were able to exploit so many unintended weaknesses of the game, which IW still hasn't really addressed. Is that OMA ridiculousness fixed yet at all?

I was excited about this game at first, but as months went by I became skeptical about the whole multiplayer, teamA vs teamB concept, only. I wish there was at least a story-based campaign...
I mean it could be cool for sometime, but I think it gets old pretty quickly....

I'm pretty sure I read in one of these videos, they said something about a campaign. I'm almost positive there's something beyond the standard multiplayer.
Change of subject, but is it just me, or does this chick's accent sound bunged on? The way she pronounces some words makes me think "British", then other words I think "American" then other words... I don't know what the hell accent. It's like some weird amalgam. I'm going to blame the voice director.

Campaign and multiplayer are one in the same. Same levels, missions and all. Mulitplayer just gives you the option to not play against bots. That's how I have understood it.
8 missions for each side...16 total. No word on length of completed all of it from what I've read.

The whole game is actually a two sided story based campaign. You can play through start to finish on either side linearly for the full story from both perspectives. Each "map" is a scenario within the overarching storyline.
They've just also given the ability to play any of the areas in any order to blend the single & multiplayer aspect. So if you're just playing random maps you can ignore the story aspect.

Well thanks for the explanation but not to be an ass, even though you guys are saying that there's a campaign and all I'm still not holding my breath for this game. Maybe something's wrong with me, Idk...
And yes @Demaar, it does sound like she's faking the british accent. What's the deal that every time movies, games etc. wants something to sound "clever" they insert a british accent??

All this looks really cool but, every video I see no one is using the acrobats or w.e they call it. I may have saw a slide but that is it. Idk if they arent showin that on purpose but I do want to see good players using it against good opponents to see if it is useful.

@madforaday yeah, that's what has killed a lot of my excitement for it. Ever since the initial reveal, they've barely even shown the S.M.A.R.T system in play. I was watching some people play while at PAX East (no way I was gonna stand in that line) and it didn't look very exciting at all because I wasn't seeing the S.M.A.R.T. system in use at all. It was just another FPS at that point, tbh. And hell, it may end up being a great class-based FPS, I just want something new and exciting. The S.M.A.R.T. system was supposed to be that for me but its been nonexistent since the reveal. Basically I was really excited for a Mirror's Edge FPS and now, until I see more of it, its just another FPS. Nothnx *shrug*

Yes the S.M.A.R.T system, couldn't think of that before. The first three trailers/videos were all about the SMART system. It looked really sweet, i remember watching the first ever trailer for it. This is going to be so sweet. Very slowly they stopped showing the SMART system and I have no idea why.

Looking really great, but I'll have to give it a miss. I don't like that you can't insta-kill, how grenades aren't very effective and how most of my friends don't care for it. Such a shame, I was excited when I first heard of it, but over time it's started to sound more and more casual.

First people complain that in COD, you die instantly without ever being able to run away after spotting someone opposite.
Then people complain in other games that when they shoot somebody, they don't die quick enough. Or that they only die quickly by pulling off a headshot.
there's just no making anybody happy.

This game definitely doesn't sound like the right fit for you. No kill/death ratios are displayed at the end of the round instead your overall experience earned is. What I'm saying is, slowing down the other team is more important than killing them so just downing somebody where a medic can't get to them quickly can be very beneficial.
So even if you were a head-shot sniping god you might still be the weakest link on your team because you weren't buffing team mates or completing objectives.

@Noir & Odog4ever -- And actually, from what I heard, headshots don't kill anyone either. I remember reading something from an interview and they said something along the lines of making the game accessible, one-shot headshots would not work. So snipers are SOL in this game, for the most part.

Why would an operative spot the mine, so then the whole team could see it, and than destroy it right after? seems kinda stupid to me.

There may be limit to the number of mines a player can have in action at a time. If you just destroy the enemy may be able to just place another as opposed to having one on the map that everyone knows the location of.

It wasn't the Operative who shot the mine in the video - it was someone else (look at the class icon). The reason an Operative would spot the mine but destroy it is because they'd lose their disguise if they shot it. ;)

I play games with instant kill possibilities but much prefer games without them. With instant kill, everyone is afraid to poke their heads out and just camps in corners. I also find it less skill based and more luck; it devolves into who sees who first.
Games where it takes a few shots to bring down your opponent mean that even if you see an opponent first, they can still kill you if they move better to avoid your fire and aim better in returning fire.
This style of game should work well with the Smart system since movement is key. I remember dodge-jumping side to side in UT2004 and wearing down my opponents with unpredictable movements. Hopefully this game delivers the same kind of frenetic action.

@RedrumnCoke It's been hard for alot of games (on the console side) to get this balance correct. i heard that on a UC2 special gameplay weekend, they did a "lowered health" thing with all MP players and that the balance was golden, but after that weekend it reverted back to the same-old, same-old.
The worst imbalance is possibly MGO if one couldn't master the insta-headshot.

I forse a big imbalance. if one grows stronger it gets harder for another therefore the stronger one grows even more stronger and thus the weaker will become weak beyond recovery point.
i dont like imbalance.
Equal players guns and stats is more fun because than you only have to worry about the other players true skill.
Kill with skill and urn your respect on the battlegrounds.

What game has this balance you speak of? Any shooter I've ever played gives advantages through perks or has uber weapons that spawn on the map giving an advantage to players who can memorize the map. Not to mention different guns always give advantages in different situation (shotgun vs sniper rifle for example)
Anyways Splash Damage is implementing an on the fly balancing system that can change recharge times, damage ratios, etc., as they see fit, without the need for a major update. So they could rebalance the game every single day until they found a happy medium.

Well to name a few that dint have any imbalance and had a great balance system: Golden eye (N64) Perfect Dark (N64) Lost planet (xbox 360 / PC / PS3) Lost Planet Colonies (xbox 360 / PC / PS3) Time Splitters the whole series (all consoles)
These games had all equal guns for all players. Even if players would be a higher rank they still gave the same guns. so lower rank players still had a chance to kill a pro without the disadvantage of having a worse gun then the pro guys have. also every one has the same amount of life etc etc.
This simply means if you win you win because your good and not because you have a better gun.... and stealth....and head vision... and the ability to see thru walls....and have twice as mush life... and can jump twice as far... and high.... and need i go on?

I've played it and it controls well. It actually has a very similar feel to Borderlands. So if you liked the control and feel in that, then there shouldn't be much of a problem.
I did a write up on why you should be excited about it on theweeklyblend.com if you are interested.
