@PapytendoI know what you mean. i bought Mass effect for both XBLM & STEAM. I just can't seem to get into the game, I got bored with it. Funny thing is, I want to buy Mass Effect 2 from both STEAM & XBLM.

Maybe you should restart. I didn't appreciate Batman much but I re-installed it after a wipe and had another go at it; boy was I in need of that second opinion.

Same. My girlfriend bought into the hype and I watched her play it for 15-20 minutes before I got bored of it. She gave up not long after and we went back to Team Fortress on our macs.
I'd like to get into it because it's highly rated and I'd like to see what others see. But it didn't scare or excite anyone in our house.

I know what you guys are talking about.

This one time, a shrill sound of laughter and of amused voices--voices of men, women, and children--resounded in the street while this wine game lasted. There was little roughness in the sport, and much playfulness. There was a special companionship in it, an observable inclination on the part of every one to join some other one, which led, especially among the luckier or lighter-hearted, to frolicsome embraces, drinking of healths,
shaking of hands, and even joining of hands and dancing, a dozen
together. When the wine was gone, and the places where it had been
most abundant were raked into a gridiron-pattern by fingers, these
demonstrations ceased, as suddenly as they had broken out. The man who had left his saw sticking in the firewood he was cutting, set it in
motion again; the women who had left on a door-step the little pot of
hot ashes, at which she had been trying to soften the pain in her own
starved fingers and toes, or in those of her child, returned to it; men
with bare arms, matted locks, and cadaverous faces, who had emerged into the winter light from cellars, moved away, to descend again; and a gloom gathered on the scene that appeared more natural to it than sunshine. Then we went and played Dead Space and were like "meh."

"My girlfriend bought into the hype and I watched her play it"

ooohh, there is the problem...you don't watch this kind of game.
you have to play it...alone...in a dark room....in the middle of the night...with closed headphones/really good 5.1system...and so on
you have to completely immerse yourself without any outside influence

@Dance Mofo I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've had ME1 for a couple years and have not been able to fully get into it despite everyone raving about it. I got ME2 for my bday last year and haven't touched it, but I'm more excited to try that out than to finish my first playthrough of ME1.

@Papytendo One of my friends tried to get me and another friend into it, so me and the other friend took turns playing. It was late, lights off, etc. Yet all we could do was laugh hysterically at how dumb and absurd the whole thing one. IMO, it tries waaaay too hard, and just doesn't succeed at it. That's just my opinion though.

@Golgo13 I'm afraid you'll like ME2 better than ME1. Even though it has been said to finish the first game in order to carry over your saved progress to the second.

Glad to see I'm not entirely alone. I've tried to make it through twice feeling like the problem was with me. I accept that other people love it but personally? I didn't find it any "scarier" or better than RE5, which is maligned about as much as Dead Space is praised.

Now, now. "Scary" and stressful" are too different things. But then again, I'm basing these on demos, to be honest. Could be wrong.

I don't know how to classify it, but the scariest thing i can handle is half-life and such.

I simply do not deal well with random shit jumping out of vents ALL THE TIME

but you get used to it (still can't handle amnesia, but you don't try to run a marathon, when you only learned to walk)
between you and me: there was a time, when tomb raider gave me the creeps...but don't tell anyone

I wish Dead Space was more of a horror game then an action game. I hate that there is a lack of True Horror games in the market =(

I played Dead Space 1 on 360, have it on PS3, but who cares I'm buying it again for PC. =)

Dead Space 2 I played on PS3 but the Steam price isn't low enough IMO for me to get it on PC, just yet.

The ONLY reason to not find this awesome is because you don´t have enough time to play crysis and both dead space games, no other thing possible.........

It is not that scary at all though. After a while, you can already sense where they are going to come from. It is like a movie and you know exactly what is going to happen.

The game is pretty predictable.

I haven't played 2 yet. I'm going to wait until nightfall and then block all light into my room. Then I'm going to put on my headphones, and sit far too close to my TV.

Anyone want to bid on a slightly browned, black office chair?

@KIRBY SMASH Me too! I just started the second one thanks to this deal on steam but I got to say I liked the opening on the first one more. I think these DS games are offering way more suspense then where RE is going.

You can't tell someone what and what is not scary, it just depends on the person. Telling some that Dead Space isn't scary does not change the way they perceive the game. Frankly, if you didn't find Dead Space at least a little scary and stressful then I feel bad for you because that was half the fun.

Dead Space 2 is probably my favorite game this year, at least so far. Really well done. I always liked the RE4 style gameplay, and I love that they took that and built onto it, polishing and adding and making it something great.
