Be nice to get a side-by-side review of the two at some stage when both are out.

Nono, doing that would give you the next Nintendo handheld!

Oh, never mind, you need duct tape for that.

@(Unverified) I doubt we'll be hearing anything about that until late 2012 and beyond, but hey, your loss.

I think I may go for this attachment option. Right now I may as well be using the normal battery, since all I'm playing at the moment is Street Fighter and Pokemon Black.

I've never had a problem with my 3DS battery, but I have yet to go on a road trip or anything that long.

Either way, this "crap" is let me play some great games.

I see a 3DS remake for Christmas 2012. The battery on mine if fine. Its only slightly worse then my DSi. All it needs now are some good games to start coming out, and not just OoT and Starfox remakes.

Don't see how it's "his loss". He'll get better hardware, possibly a better price, most probably better battery, and most definitely a better library by the time a new iteration of the hardware comes along. It's only a loss if he's one of those MUST-HAVE-IT-NOW, instant-gratification types.

Yo dawg, we heard you like batteries. So we took your 3DS and made into a battery. We also took your new improve 3DS and added another battery so that battery can increase battery life for your new 3DS. If that wasn't enough we knocked you out and took your fingers and turned them into batteries. So now you have been blessed with infinite gameplay.

@(Unverified) I've started refering to the possible update as 3DS Plus, mainly because they could only add to the package.

If you pick up the standard 3DS, you'll probably find that you'll want the extra battery.

I've already purchased the Nyko battery and I love it! I do like how this battery is an attachment rather than a replacement to the standard battery. But, everything else about Nyko battery I like. I look forward to some reviews of this battery.

I just hate how this has become item #1 on the checklist of things you look for in any 3DS article.

I read these and then Obama's line from the correspondents dinner comes to mind after he mentions Trump firing Gary Busey...

"Well handled, sir. Well handled."

Sadly, my 3DS right now is collecting dust because i only bought Pilotwings(Great game and all, but it only took me 1 week(15 hours) to 3-Star every mission and find everything. ) so i don't see a use for these battery extenders, but ill maybe buy it when OoT and RE: Mercs release next month, cause i will most probably need it!

"The battery, which attaches to the bottom of the device, also includes...an LED indicator to show how much longer you can get your Nintendogs on before you need to recharge."

So the 3DS battery indicator icon still doesn't "indicate" anything or does it? (I don't have a 3DS yet.) I always thought it was dumb how the battery indicator on the DS Lite (which I have) was green and displayed "max power" whether you were at 100%, 70%, 50%. That is until it was about to die, then it went red. Like it's either fully charged or nearly dead, no in-between.

Also on the 3DS you can change the screen brightness setting in the middle of a game, and it has some auto power save mode.

As someone who owns both that's a lie. My DSI got about 17 hours of battery life and my 3DS gets about 5. While I'm not complaining because 5 is alright, but it's not a litle less then the DSi.

However, I'm personally going to wait untill custom batteries that go inside the console and aren't made by Nyko before buying one.

Eh, the "i" could be added in for other reasons.

Introducing the 3DSi, or 3DS Infinite! Don't worry any longer about your battery life, as this current version no longer runs off something simple like a battery! Instead, run it off the bio-electric energy just SURGING through your body, and play for as long as you like! Just climb into our state-of-the-art pod, hook yourself up to the life support system, close your eyes, and let it just take you away!

Note: Side effects include atrophy of the muscles, baldness, and random sightings of Cowboy Curtis in a black trench coat, just ignore him when you see it as its nothing but a delusion.

It's understandable, seeing as how expensive it is now and not much games out, but I don't see a lite version of it coming out anytime soon, should it ever happen at all. By next year we should have a strong library of eShop and retail games, since third parties are getting more support from Nintendo. With the way things are going to go down, I don't think they need to keep slimming it down.

3DS remodeling jokes aside, you've got about an 18 month wait.

With the original DS remodeling to the DS lite, there was a significant build quality difference. Can you really see the 3DS rehases offering much other than a bigger screen and presumably a better battery?

We're not starting with a brick this time. The 3DS is sleek. I intend to buy an iteration way down the road with a special edition bundle. Until then, I'm very happy with my purchase.

People mostly hope that future iterations of the 3DS has larger battery life.
What most people don't get is that the 3DS battery is AMAZING, but it IS handling the 3DS hardware, which is what drains it so fast.
It has the capability of running this sleek hardware, but hardly has the stamina to keep it going for long amounts of time.

I'd imagine they did that in order to keep the 3DS a slimmer shape (as a "cheap alternative" to increasing the battery life is increasing the battery size)... so hopefully in the next release, battery tech would have improved to make a cheaper solution that ensures a longer battery life with the 3DS in its same size while still keeping it at its current price.

Just saying: Updated versions of handhelds come out every two years for Nintendo. (the only one that went against that rule was the DSiXL, and all it improved was its screensize)

So, if you can wait two years: Awesome for you.
But me? I bought mine early so I don't have to worry about laying down my money for both a handheld and every game I want for it. As long as I keep this in good shape I should be able to trade it in for any updated versions for a good price (and I'd hope that if you could transfer DSiWare from your DSi to a 3DS, you'd be able to do the same from one 3DS to another).

'Til its new version, I'm just looking forward to the games coming out this year. Not only that, but I get to be part of the history of the growing StreetPass communities. It really is a fun experience going to different towns over the weekend just to meet up with others. Hope you'll be able to join us when you get yours~!
