This would explain why the Mac version of Skype has not been updated for over two years.

But now the racism will come in crystal clear! Excellent!

@Colin There is little business sense in not getting Skype to run on every platform known to man. Making a communication tool exclusive to one or two systems is just plain stupid.

@Colin Hmm... Skype 5 for Mac came out January this year... it looks and behaves horribly, but it's a big update nontheless.

Did it? Huh. Mine never updated, but I suppose you have to do it manually.

And yes, I was of course talking about the racism on Xbox live. We'll get every syllable of kids screaming! YES!

I've been waiting for a Honeycomb release of Skype (Fring is horrid..). I guess Microsoft pushing it out on their competition's platform first is not something I should expect. What a shame.

on point with the Mac Skype comment...

i dislike this acquisition a lot, Microsoft are a company of assh0les who make shitty ports on other platforms so that THEIR platform out performs everyone. Thats not what a company like Skype needed.

You should try ooVoo. I have not had the opportunity to try the Android version yet, but the desktop app is great - I think in many ways, better than Skype.

@sonofman I went to Mac exclusively last year and made my wife do it too. She agrees. Once you go Mac, you'll never go back. I was an original DOS user back in the early 90s and was on the net in 1993. Windows and Microsoft can literally suck it. Now, I've never been a PC gamer as I prefer consoles, so PC has that over Mac. in my opinion Microsoft is a terrible company with a terrible product. And come on, I stuck with them for 15 years. The fact that Microsoft now owns Skype is bad news for almost everyone. I went from loving my Xbox 360 to detesting it thanks in part to having to own 3 of them due to poor hardware, terrible customer support, impossible to cancel XBL the FIRST time...have a PS3 and rarely game on the Xbox 360.

"Microsoft are a company of assh0les who make shitty ports on other platforms so that THEIR platform out performs everyone. "

That sounds more like Apple + iTunes to me.

Bing works great on iOS, better than many native Apple products.

iTunes is a pile of garbage on anything not Apple.

Skype just made $8,500,000,000 in cash!

How is that not working?

That's this (see link below) times eight.

@Nirvash Planeteer Power of Capt Because free systems are always better and more secure... Idiot baiting aside, Skype has had a paid service for a long time to land line and non-data mobile calls. Someone in Microsoft would have to have several heavy blows to the head to think charging for the internet calls would be a good idea.

@Protome Charging only works when there's not a free alternative that's just as good. How quickly would you think a rival to Skype would pop up as soon as MS charged? You could argue that PSN is a free alternative to Live, but then you would be a ****ing moron.

PoisonedAll is right, Microsoft cannot afford to charge for the peer to peer connectivity as they will piss off too many people if they did. They need to play catchup to Google and Apple in this area so this is their attempt to try even things out. I have to give Microsoft credit, they are doing all the right things to get them back into the smartphone genre. They need to release some new WP7 phones though, their first batch are falling behind when you compare it to the likes of the iPhone 4 and the top tier Android phones.

Leveraging the technology for the XBL and Kinect is a smart move on their part.

I don't seriously think that it will, but it also wouldn't surprise me now that Microsoft bought it. I'm hoping nothing really changes overall, but who knows Microsoft's plan for Skype?

The only good thing I can think of to come from this is that now all PCs might come pre-loaded with Skype. The downside is that now Microsoft is going to hoard it because their mommy never taught them to share anything.

@GreenElf If they did that, they might as well remove the Android and iPhone apps... then get another 5 billion and flush it down the toilet. Skype only works when there are more things running it, not less. If MS did do that, there would be replacement company in seconds.
