PC vs. console, PS3 vs. 360, Casual vs. hardcore, people who play CoD vs. people who play other FPS games that are 80-90% idenitcal to CoD. Divide, divide, divide.

Can't we just agree that we're *all* a bunch of overentitled, internet enabled, loudmouth babies...um, I mean "gamers," and get on with our lives?

Thanks!

This whole, "elitism" bullshit, is one of the reasons why I've become a lurker here.

People like CoD. I don't see how that makes them horrible people. In fact, I find people who judge simply because they like some mainstream game (like hipsters) far, far worse.

@maxxgold This meme is getting a little old. I think people really do think someone hacked a PS3 and got all of this information...Sony's servers are no different than the hundreds of thousands of other servers that hold personal/financial information that have been hacked in the past including our government, major credit card companies, businesses, and corporations.

I can't really say i am not surprised .. cause CoD is everything too them .. no other games exist. I try getting my cousins to play other games then CoD online .. for example i got them to try

Borderlands
Killzone 2
Resistance Fall Of Man
inFamous
Batman Arkham Asylum
Uncharted

their responses were ehhhh can I go back to getting another prestiege in CoD Now ?

it's sick how many good games people are truely missing cause of one Game. so i gave up and let them play their damn CoD it's their choice but i was trying to get them to open their minds to other gaming titles that are alot of fun and cool too play.

I think COD games simply have the best shooting mechanics out there so for people who are big FPS fans to put most of their gaming time toward COD games is completely reasonable in my opinion.

Well, They may not be the worst people, But poeple who only play cod are the worst gamers. They are ruining gaming, Every developer wants to beat cod in sales, Or make games like it.

Its such a shame a game like brink came out so broken, because its just what the fps part of gaming needs.

I find it funny how every time there's article about Call Of Duty or Activision, the first comment always gets upvoted then usually the next comment as well & then the third comment gets downvoted.

The a few after that get upvoted & the first downvoted guy comes back to defend himself & then gets downvoted again & then people go off on a different tangent.

Joystiqers are funny

Fact-Checking? This is joystiq dude, they report first and then seek the truth later. :) And when said story is false, they issue no retraction. That is the benefit of being a blog and not an actual news company - no responsibility except to the all mighty dollar. The strategy is "Incite! Incite! Incite!"

Personally, I would like more facts too but I gave up on that a long time ago since our political leaders don't seem to need to prove them either. If our leaders don't need them, why should our news/blog companies follow suit?

That being said, COD is single minded beat much like WoW. It's not my cup of tea but I can see the allure.

I sometimes do wonder about the people who play these games and don't visit sites like this. There are a LOT of them.

So I wonder how many people use PSN who don't even know what's happening. It's bad enough to know, but if I didn't? Trying to log into PSN every day and getting that same stupid "PSN is undergoing maintenance" message? That can make someone jump to a lot of conclusions.

@Softserve Well to be fair, about a year after the PS3 came out there was a study that showed a large percentage didn't know their PS3 played Blu-Rays, had wireless, or many of the other main features of the system. :p

This is unacceptable. Sony got caught with their pants down and now is taking weeks to fix it. There's just no defense. They honestly deserve to lose sales over this.

Now get PSN back up Sony so I can play some Uncharted 2. None of this end of the month stupidity.

I completely understand people being upset about not having PSN but is a friend's list and online really that important that they couldn't wait what in the long run is a short amount of time? I would understand if someone from Sony leaked something that said "HOLY SHIT WE ALL GONNA DIE!" but not just an outage from rebuilding. Then again, I own a 360 and a PS3 so maybe my opinion is a little skewed from someone who only has a PS3. Have any of you guys gotten rid of your Ps3 because of this?

Online is important for me, but I'm a gaming addict. I couldn't imagine only owning the PS3 and having to deal with this shit. I find an outlet for stress in online gaming. Without that nutjobs like me might take to the streets and hold up a convenience store or drive a car into oncoming traffic. Luckily I have two PS3s and two 360s as well as a capable gaming PC with Steam account. When anything goes down I have plenty of options. Worst comes to worst I'll just battle online with Pokemon on my DS.

I did. And it wasn't just because the network was down. My ps3 has stopped working so many times. They won't give me a year warranty unless I made a deal to trade in my ps3 for a ps3 slim, which I didn't want to because I want to play my ps2 games (I had the very first model). But I had put FAR TOO MUCH money into repairing it when I could have just got a 360 with 7 12 month Xbox Live Gold accounts. Not to mention 4 of my 5 accounts got hacked and Sony wouldn't give them back.

So this is the last time Sony screwed me. And I must say, I quite enjoy my new Xbox 360. I defibately do not regret my choice. Sure I'll miss playing Demon Souls and Uncharted, but I have to say, I am really enjoying Fable 3 and the Gears of War 3 beta. Not to mention Dark Souls is coming to Xbox.

Idk, I just have had it with them, and Xbox 360 is making me remember why I love video games. Not one problem so far.

I agree with someone who commented earlier this week that if LA Noire had come out two weeks ago, this would be a non issue to a lot of us who are only interested in our own personal entertainment. I think a lot of the anger is voiced vicariously through developers, or PS3 fans worried about future support for their favorite platform.

The problem is, many online focused games came out in the past month. Portal 2 (still have not been able to redeem my Steam copy of the game), Mortal Kombat, Brink, Motorstorm 3, Infamous 2 beta, and SOCOM just to name a few, are big titles that heavily advertised their online functionality. Useless on PS3. These games create communities and/or build statistics. If you don't grab players early, you don't grab them at all. Big draws for Sony have become bombs.

Then you have download only titles like Outland getting literally zero sales on PS3, who probably wasted a lot of money into an ad campaign on PSN. The few weeks between Portal 2 and LA Noire, I would have bought Pixel Junk Shooter 2, or the Stacking DLC, but went with an XBLA title instead. People are wondering how reluctant studios will be to develop for PSN now.

The people trading in their PS3s are probably figuring "Nobody is going to want to develop online games anymore for this, and/or most people are just going to buy the game for a more stable platform instead; so I'm going to go where the community is strongest."

The one that lasted the longest was 2 months. Ive had my Ps3 for 4 years with no problem til the hack.

I have a ps3, and I have not thought about trading it in. I've been a sony fan since the ps1 and have stuck with them since. Though I have to admit this sucks, I would never jump ship. Now if my ps3 (my third ps3) dies before this psn issue resolves itself, then I may think of leaving gaming altogether lol; you can only have so many fried systems before you just have to let go.

@Lucky48 Unfortunately no. 8 were exchanged through the MS warranty program and 3 were exchanged at Gamestop...when I worked there :p . I specifically remember when I shipped a broken 360 back from the warehouse, not even mine (so maybe I should say 12 lol). Another time I received my unit back from warranty, played some games and then I bought crackdown on launch day so I could have it for the Halo 3 beta. I put Crackdown in, the game had an update, and then the system immediately RRoD on the spot. Yeah, I've been shipped many a cardboard box from MS.

@sammo21 Still have my PS3 (no Wii or 360.) I don't think it is that big of a deal to wait a little bit sure may not be able to now but in the long run will be safer and guarded more and who knows maybe they man make it smoother too. Frankly if you cant wait this long its rather sad, we all have lives outside of gaming and considering the task at hand. I'd imagine its not as hard as all those simply saying "just fix it and turn PSN on!." and as you you're comment no i don't think its because you have both just means you have a very sensible outlook on this.

PS. This is a bit blunt but i don't think this is a huge lose to teh online community its annoying as hell when the generic COD player plays BF;BC2, KZ2/3 or any team based game and is a nothing but make his/her KDR go up and not help the team. Not saying all are but I'm sorry to say most of the people playing that god forsaken game have Zero team play skills.
