I was interested when this game's first trailer came out. It seemed like a zombie I could really enjoy, very dramatic and tragic. Then I saw the first screens and well, it's Left 4 Dead...

Exactly what I thought when the developer said that people were getting the wrong idea from the trailer.

Really? lol

What I think I was trying to get across was that I felt this was a really personal survival game where you tried to avoid zombies and use your wits to stay alive, not a trigger finger. But when I saw it was 1st person horde killing gameplay I was disappointed. That's not to say the game may not be well made, (I'm sure the developer is trying hard) but rather they sort of threw me off with those screens after releasing that beautiful trailer.

It's really REALLY nothing like L4D. Aside from actually BEING first person, it's not remotely similar. Reading the article explained how it isn't similar well enough.

no definitely! I mean, the bright environments, the amount of detail, the quest system, the rpg side of it. the first person melee combat. All of this truly screams "left 4 dead".

oh... wait.... no... it doesn't.

Totally Left 4 Dead. I don't remember, but did that game even have guns?

I don't think so, I just used my fists to beat that game, just punched every zombie in the face, tanks were like epic boxing matches.

I'll give you that...
I think I need to see the gameplay first to truly believe that it isn't. The developer even said that the majority of the gaming community misread the point of the trailer, and ever since that statement, well, I've been skeptical. I'm sure it will turn out great and I can't wait to see gameplay so my impressions of the game can be changed. Hopefully E3 will bring some new good news but for now, just reading someones first interactions with the game, I can't judge how I will perceive it. Remember how RE5 started? It was pretty much similar to Resident evil 4 but by the end of the game the Zombies had guns...
I just want to make sure this game doesn't give zombies guns (figuratively speaking)

i thought from the trailer it would be a little more intimate too. i guess i was imagining a 'Walking Dead' style video game where you are trying to save your family more than hack zombies. it doesn't seem like a hack and slash by any means and it does sound fun but just a little different than what i was thinking based on the trailer.

Right?

How the hell could someone read that whole article and come to the conclusion that this is anything even remotely close to Left 4 Dead?

This sounds awesome. Almost like a mix of Condemned and Elder Scrolls. I've been waiting for a survival horror game that really put an emphasis on, you know, surviving.

I'm so down.

i remember calling people morons because alot of you thought this game would be deep like Heavy Rain but with zombies, how does that make sense? especially if it was going to be open world. It was the original trailer, it was so good that it over hyped a community of people who tend to over hype things.

L4D is an RPG? This is NOT L4D. It's also NOT the same game they showed in the trailer. Granted, it was a CG trailer, but it was very emotional. However, that doesn't make this game not worthwhile. It still sounds awesome. A zombie RPG? Why noy? I just hope those more realistic aspects aren't as annoying as FC2.

The zombie genre is far from played out for me. I want to see new things added like this game, and a zombie MMO where you're rebuilding society.

Although the Half Life 2 series is certainly excellent, the FPS genre has expanded so much that it's almost unfair to compare a puzzle & story based single player game against a squad-based, team-play, multiplayer game. Both appear at the very top of their respective categories, but to me its not an apples-to-apples approach.

Sweet, I will give it a try. Even though I don't care for zombie games I think the open world idea would be quite interesting. Hopefully they don't stick a stupid timer on it though, like another game I might be able to mention.

I'm still excited for the game, but I think they might be going a little too far into the RPG side of things. It all adds a lot of depth to the game, but having damage numbers pop up is a little too much. It would be better to leave that out so there's more uncertainty. Why have so little precision in the combat's controls but have 100% precision in the resulting feedback? Likewise, I hope they don't have numbers for health. I've always liked the mechanic in the Resident Evil and Silent Hill series of games of having a health indicator that is in regions like perfect, injured, or near death. It adds a lot of suspense. Not having perfect information for these things keeps you nervous and attentive. Here's hoping that they reconsider some of the game mechanics to not make it too RPG-ish.

Combat like how a real person would fight, open world, and rpg elements? I just got a lot more interested. However, I hope there will an option to turn off the damage numbers. I just want to stab the zombies until they stop moving.

Anyone else think there are a few comments being made that are too ambiguous for the game to have a planned summer release?

"(costing me some money and possibly XP, says Kummer)" & "We're looking into a couple of thousand"

If the game is coming in just about three months shouldn't they be in crunch mode and not thinking about what they may or may not be putting in the final game? I want to look forward to this game but Deep Silver hasn't made anything standout amazing in my eyes and with all the hype that was around Brink for it to let me down as much as it did I can't see myself investing in a game until it proves itself to other gamers or press...or maybe even both at this point. $60 is too much for me to swallow just to have another lackluster game sit on my shelf in my pile of shame, not being played because I have other better experiences I've yet o invest in.

An XP penalty sounds pretty rough for this type of game. Survival horror games tend to be hard to play without dieing (by design), and if they are handing out XP penalities, then it makes it that much harder.

I never really got the mindset of "oh, that encounter was too difficult for you? Here, let us make you weaker and poorer and you go try again."

It's annoying to play games like that, because I end up just reloading last save all the time.

Isnt this game developed by Techland? Deep Silver is just publishing it, right? If thats the case, I dont mind. Techland so far has been producing quite interesting library of games.

Plus, if you are not keen on spending $60 on games, might want to look at the pc version since it should be at least 10 dollars cheaper, and maybe more if you know where to look for online key stores and such (not piracy).

I'm intrigued by what they are trying to do here but don't know if the the RPG and zombie elements will really marry up well. One of the great things about L4D (apart from the Romero homage) was the chaotic nature of it, especially at certain points. Can you really top that (zombie experience) in a game that is predominantly melee based? It will be interesting to see how they try and do that.
