LA Noire DLC 'Nicholson Electroplating Arson Case' outed by Best Buy
43
LA Noire's first downloadable content pack has been announced unceremoniously in Best Buy's latest ad circular. As seen above, the ad promises that the first 16 customers to purchase the game at any Best Buy midnight launch event will receive a code that will unlock "the first DLC pack," known as the 'Nicholson Electroplating' Arson Case, as soon as it becomes available for download.
The fine print notes that every midnight launch location will have a "minimum of 16 Xbox 360 and PS3 codes per store" -- if you're number 17, don't despair. Rockstar has yet to release info on the first DLC pack, and the developer could not be reached for comment as of publishing.
[Thanks, Steven]

I dunno, "The Naked City" case has more oomph to it then "Nicholson Electroplating Arson Case". I'm sure there's some good story in it, though.

what the hell how much exclusive content does this game have split up all over the place? I feel like I'm gonna miss out on a ton no matter where I buy.

Its not exclusive, its premium DLC released after the game comes out, thats why its limited to 16. Its probably valued at around $10 (which still makes Amazon's deal better since you get $15 back + preorder dlc).

@Prax Yeah, as much as I like the look of this game, I won't bother buying it until the inevitable all-in-one edition a year or two from now. Not willing to buy an incomplete game, and this one is designed to be incomplete right from the start. Multiple DLCs only available at certain retailers? Another one only for people standing in a line at midnight? And no way for anyone else to play these stories unless they pay extra? No dice, and if I support it now, I'm encouraging game companies to keep doing it in the future.

I get weary of buying video games at Best Buy, the staff never seem to really know what they're doing. I pre-ordered Brink there for the Fallout pack, and when I asked where the code was, no one knew what I was referring to, or that it's actually located inside the game on an insert.

With the exception of Fable 3, every game I've bought from BB in the past few years had the content already shrinkwrapped into the case.

Haha, the first 16 people? What, are they going to run out of letter/number combinations? Or cardboard? Right.
The practice of artificially and arbitrarily limiting digital content is hilarious.

this game is my most highly anticipated game but with all of these cases spread all over the place I decided against pre-ordering. I think I'm just going to sit this one out until the price drops and maybe I can buy the DLC later on, hopefully.

As much as it pains me to say it, so much DLC means I might just have to wait for the "Ultimate" edition, or whatever it'll be called, with all DLC included. This is the problem when you announce so much DLC at launch; maybe most consumers are too impulse driven, but 4+ DLC's already do nothing but drive the TCO (total cost of ownership) skyward in my mind.
I gladly would've picked it up at launch, but now it's looking more and more like I'll be play the waiting game instead (oh, and that huge backlog of games I have as well).

@Cleric What does it matter how long it takes?
It won't change the fact that when it finally releases that it will be a new experience for him.
Why do so many people get so hung up that others must get a game "DAY 1!!!!" ?
Some people do have a funny little thing called patience.

First, Can PSN users enter dlc codes eventhough the store is not up. Second, I'm impressed by best buy midnight release incentive this time.

nope, ps3 players cant get any of the preorder dlc until the end of the month. Assuming they actually make that deadline and dont do "further testing" for another week or 2 in June.
I was going to change my preorder to PS3 but with all this PSN crap I would be done with the game before the store goes back online so Im keeping the 360 version.

FYI The Guardian in the UK accidentally put out an early review of this and then pulled it. Luckily a quick few were able to get a copy of the full article saved before it was pulled and a few sites have it up.

Guess what? I predict LA Noire will get a Metacritic average of a 7.

Did my pre order on amazon. Oh well no DLC for me but I did get a $15 gift card.

Unfortunately no midnight launch at either of my local Best Buys so I will just wait on my Amazon copy. The last BB midnight launch I atteneded was for Gears of War 2 and it was pretty nice...I got a 6 pack of Cokes, Gears of War 2 hat, gears of war 2 long sleeved shirt, the remote controlled tank, and my copy of the game.

I would like to know how much all of this stuff is going to cost when it hits PSN and XBL? I'm going to guess each case is going to be $5 and that is ridiculous.

So basically it's like the MK9 preorders where retailers rope you into choosing between them for early access to "content" they will later release at a premium anyway.
The practice of preorder DLC is getting repulsive.

It's just easier to pay the freaken $2 instead of trying to line up for this way in advance, esp. if one does not know how early to start.
