A Sega Sammy Holdings earnings report (PDF) may have outed plans to release Sonic Generations on PC and 3DS. Spotted by Andriasang, a section highlighting titles planned for Sega's current fiscal year includes a listing for Sonic Generations on 3DS and PC as well as the already announced releases for Xbox and PS3.
Given the history of portable Sonic titles, the 3DS listing certainly makes sense. Joystiq has contacted Sega for comment.

@Perfidious Sinn. Ever heard of something called Sonic Colors? From the looks of it, no.

Now I haven't played Sonic games since the Sega Genesis, (and please fill me in if he has, indeed, changed) but isn't new Sonic the same Sonic despite his uh body anatomy? I'd rather have his image change than his personality.
I look back upon the many faces of Link with love, why not Sonic?

I agree wholeheartedly. Especially when you take into account that Sonic is a runner. It makes sense for his body to be thin and lithe.
Chubby people tend to not run quickly unless chased by bears.

A new sonic game, it's about time.

Well I wonder what kind of approach they will take with a 3DS version. Sonic Colors, when it was released for the DS alongside the console version, was a pretty solid 2D plaformer along the lines of the Sonic Rush titles, which were excellent.
With the 3DS having enough power to do Gamecube/Wii graphics, I wonder if they'll try to do a visual downgrade port of the console versions, or do a similar approach as noted above.

I'm wondering this as well since Sonic has actually fared pretty well on the DS. It's on the home consoles that his reputation has lost all of his rings. I hope they don't just port it and put in a decent effort to make it it's own game. They've treated the DS differently before so I hope they keep it up with the 3DS.

Keep in mind this is a crossover between classic and modern Sonic. Character and gameplay wise. Having the same gameplay style and just let you pick which Sonic to play as would be a significant letdown. And Sega probably knows that.
Let's just hope for the best.

@Ikki You have a good point, this may very well be a more "down graded" graphical approach rather than a different game like the DS games have typically been due to the two different gameplay styles they're presenting.
I will try to remain optimistic, but since they did a good job with Sonic Colors on the console, I do have some faith.

I know exactly what you mean! Steam makes games so cheap that I end up just buying games for the heck of it even if I end up not playing it. For example, Crysis warhead for $2.50 and Crysis for $5, of course I bought it. ... and don't even get me started about their Summer, Christmas, and Black Friday deals...
As for DLC, I haven't bought a single piece of DLC on my console systems. I've bought a bunch through steam sales though.

This brings joy to me. The Sonic Rush games were pretty terrific, so hopefully this doesn't muddy up that untouched green pasture.

PC, you say? I could go for that, especially if talented modders figure out how to add their own content. Even better if it is mod-friendly.

I'll take 20 copies of each, no, 30. Nah, you know what? Go ahead and give 50 me of each.

I'm planning to get a 3DS on summer and this is certainly a game I'd pick up, if it's good enough as Colours was

I have both a gaming PC and a 3DS but if it does come out for PC, I'll probably settle with that version instead. Otherwise, 3DS it is :).

Oh now I don't know! I was going to get this for my Xbox but since my mac is way better than my Xbox I might buy it for that instead. And by mac I mean bootcamp and Windows 7 of course.
But then there's the 3DS... soooo tempting.
Or it could be a typical new Sonic game and suck inwhich case I will get neither version.

I sure hope that the 3DS version is the same as the console versions (think SSFIV3D). If so, that's the version I'll be getting.

Yes this was the case...even MICROSOFT moved to consoles because they were more closed.

Except that it's not dying. A dying platform doesn't receive the highest amount of third party support from developers.
Also, this isn't the first Sonic game they released on PC, so it's nothing really new on Sega's end. They released games prior to this and prior to their Steam releases.
