Zynga has kicked off its latest cross-promotion, teaming up with the eccentric Lady Gaga for the launch of her latest album, "Born This Way." They've created a Gaga-themed farm in the enormously popular social game, FarmVille. Rather than rearing funky livestock, though, players will have a chance to listen to a handful of tracks from the album before launch on May 23.

And if that tickles your fancy, you'll be glad to know that Gaga's farm is currently live on Facebook, anxiously awaiting your arrival. Beyond early access to her next album, the promotion extends to Zynga's game cards as well, with folks purchasing $25 cards via Best Buy stores (online and off) -- between now and June 11 -- receiving a free digital copy of "Born This Way."

Okay, just stop right there with the elitist attitude. Everybody's been bitching for the last five years that "stupid casuals are ruining the industry 'cause they don't know good games from bad!". But as soon as a website takes the time to, y'know, *fix* that, the complaints become "lol website sold out; see, casual gamers ruining everything; gb2realgamenews".

Do I think this is a good game? F^$% no, I think it's a trainwreck that shouldn't have happened. But a) that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be covered by Joystiq, b) it shouldn't say jack about the people who *do* enjoy the game, and c) it's the runup to E3 and hard news is kind of scarce for the next three weeks.

Bottom line: real gamers are born that way and don't need to go around calling themselves "real gamers".

Zynga "games" are not actually games, please stop reporting on them.

I was at a game development conference here a few months back and there was a panel to debate what exactly social gaming is and what it meant to the industry. There was a man on the panel who was a lead designer for one of the major social gaming companies (I honestly cannot remember which one it was) and his comments disgusted me to no end.

I realize that we all live in a capitalist society where the whole point of a business is to make money, but the man basically said they do not make Facebook "games" with the intention of them being fun, the sole purpose of the games is to get the user addicted and spending money on their virtual items. He essentially referred to people who play Facebook games as stupid and agreed that they are not even necessarily games, but they are a fantastic way to make money.

Stop giving these "games" free advertising.

What an asshole. Thanks God we have people who really care for real gamers and sell crappy or glitchy games at full price, or release $10 DLC one day after they release their full price game.
Thank God for all the Guitar Heros and Call of Dutys that search no less than perect entertainment and not milking franchises to make more money thanks to addicted 'gamers'.

So, the Microsoft of facebook games decides to release a Lady Gagme version of Farmville? This is a very belated April fool's joke, right? Let me know when Zynga comes up with a game that, you know, doesn't suck. But we all know it'll be a cold day in Hell before that happens. Heck, Obama getting re-elected is more likely to happen before Facebook has good games!
