LA Noire film reels and landmarks guide
22
We get it: You're too busy taking down thugs and murderers in LA Noire to bother snooping around for film reels and pointing out landmarks in the City of Angels. But what about later? What will you do when there isn't a single lowlife left to bust?
Then you'll probably want to go sightseeing. Thankfully, GamesRadar has prepared a quick, yet comprehensive guide -- detailing all 30 landmark and 50 film reel locations -- that you can either check out now or bookmark for later -- bookmark as in mark down in a real paper notepad. It's supposed to be the '40s, remember? Play along, you blockhead!

Game is awesome. Didn't even know there were film reels to find.

@TurbineTech me either! I had no idea film reels were scattered.
Although I do dislike these kinds of things in something as massive as LA Noire. GTA, Infamous, Burnout Paradise, and such just have so much to explore - to hide things and have players be able to collect everything is a bit too much.
Thankfully, the game only has 50 of those film reels I'll have to actually look for rather than 100+ tiny ass lightning shards.

Still trying to figure out why the open world is even there, let alone why it's so big. Granted I'm only 5 cases in, but it really doesn't seem like it needs to be so ridiculously large.

I would have thought a mature game like this would be above putting in collectables. I am not against collectables but it just seems dated like I am back playing Spyro.

This game is pretty fun, but solving the crimes doesnt really satisfy me that much. Only because i feel like no matter how bad i do during the interrogation process, the crime will solve itself anyway. I thought i would actually put together clues, and figure stuff out. But most of the game feels like it does it for you. Only times ive had to replay a part, is when i get shot dead, or lose someone who is running away/driving off that i have to chase. Im not saying its a bad game, im having a lot of fun, just thought it would be more deep than what ive played so far.

There is already a guide over at Rockstar's Social Club. A full map with all of the collectibles. Although the guide posted in this article may be more thorough, you should be aware of the source from the website.

The Social Club guide is off (at least on the film reels) I tried using it for Film Reel 18) It says it is on the top portion, western edge of the "I" on the map, when it is actually on the lower part of the "I" about 50 yards north, off of 1st street, 1st house being constructed. Had to use the web to find the location.

I like the game very much, and they made a huge city but I find it uninteresting to wander about. I think they made the same mistake that happened in Mafia II.

Mafia 2, perfect analogy, I feel the same way. The city is undeniably beautiful but I just don't feel motivated to explore it all. I absolutely love this game but a larger variety of side missions would have made the open world part feel more interesting. The collectibles just seem like an excuse to get people to cruise around the city.
Also I think the map is a little too big. I think if they took the GTA3 approach and locked off parts of the map til you get farther in the story people would want to explore more. As it is now, I just feel a bit overwhelmed.

Actually there's an android and ipad/iphone app that does all that plus it tracks cars and the badge pursuit dlc. Its waaaay easier to use when you are in the middle of playing the game.
