If that doesn't promote a good use of your time in college, I don't know what does!

Yeah but what are you going to do with the other 23 hours, 57 minutes and 18 seconds of your day?

Who would've guessed that it would be Microsoft replacing Oprah after she left? Look under your chairs indeed.

Too bad I don't need a new computer... Or a new xbox really, but otherwise, a very intriguing idea...

So the device that you use to do homework includes a free device to make sure you never do your homework? Awesome!

Not really most colleges are blocking XBL and PSN due to them being P2P networks. Quite a few near my area do. Both junior and unis.

I dunno. My school's nazi's. You have to login with your student ID, and when you hit a limit you're cut off. After so many times it's cut for the day.
I once got cut off for downloading something I needed for class. Granted it was a 5 GB file, but I got cut off numerous times.

Bandwith consumption. It's also why WoW and LoL is banned in our school. Since their patchers are P2P systems you can not patch. However with WoW since it's constantly uploading client data to be downloaded by other users WoW is banned by our school. You cannot log into it without tricking the system. LoL you can since it doesn't upload data while playing, only during patching process.
It's also why most colleges have demonoid and thepiratebays tracker's blocked. Not just because of illegal content but dataconsumption.

Was it Xcode by any chance? Every time they release an update, I look at that 4-5GB download link and wonder if I should finally upgrade to a faster internet connection.

Any type of P2P is blocked in schools in general. The 2 universities I went blocked loads of things. Pretty understandable.

i wasn't even supposed to have a router at my college. i hooked up a wireless one anyway but apparently you're supposed to go straight from wall to PC and that's it. P2P stuff was blocked too and i figure the majority probably are.

Awesome, I was actually gonna buy a laptop this weekend, though it's been a while since I was a student. Hopefully ordering with an .edu email is all the "verification of student status" amounts to.

Microsoft are absolutely shameless with this! Talk about encouraging people to fail there exams! If they want to encourage learning they should give students free DEV 360 kits instead!!

Does $700 buy you a good PC in the US?
Where I live that would only afford the cheapest PCs, so I doubt we'll see that deal here. :-/

@Pure Black World Tendency $700 can buy you a relatively decent PC, as bare-bones "I just need it to use the internet" computers start at the low-$400 range here in the U.S.

It's decent. My laptop was $350 and it's not a gaming laptop but it does the trick in a pinch.
Of course you always get more bang for your buck if you build it yourself. More fun too. I could easily build a rig for $700 that'll run anything out there on Med-High settings.

There's a similar promotion in New Zealand at the moment but it's limited to 950 nation-wide and only with some fairly average HP laptop. Too bad it isn't included with the awesome Toshiba laptop that I want to buy, because that thing is about as twice as much as the HP.

Microsoft will do ANYTHING to sell a PC with their crap running on it - sorry MS but you can't suck up and buy everything like the 90s - the Xbox 360 is the only good thing you have put out in 20 years - err wait - I'm on my 7th system from poor construction.....sorry, I digress.......at least the online works!

This is another reason to believe the next console cycle could happen as soon as next year. Seems they are trying to reduce the large amount of stock 360s by GIVING them away!
