South Park lampoons EA Sports, Peter Moore, athletic royalties and everything else
53
The latest episode of South Park is ... well, one of the stranger recent episodes of South Park, an observation you probably made after reading its title: "Crack Baby Athletic Association." In the show's typical fashion, the episode is a hyperbolic, metaphorical critique of the treatment of professional and collegiate athletes, and their complaints of being denied royalties for media which feature their likeness. One target of the show's scathing barbs was EA Sports, headed up by one "Mr. Peters," a mock-up (pictured above!) of real-life studio president Peter Moore.
You can watch the full episode for free online over at South Park Studios. We've contacted EA Sports to see if it has any comment on the show -- considering it's South Park's second send-up of the developer, we imagine its hackles might be a little raised.

I thought this subject was covered well on Frontline on PBS, and I saw that Real Sports with Bryant Gumble was also going to be covering it a bit. It's been years since I've watched South Park.

Best part of the ep was the end of Mr. Peters' diatribe...
"Get the f*ck out of my building."
I nearly fell out of my chair laughing.

They should have known better than to sign over exclusive rights for the CBBL to EA. 2k makes much better basketball games.

NCAA athletes should be compensated if for no other reason than I could play NCAA football with the players names.

@FriedConsole No, not really. The game ships with "QB #7", and you have to name him yourself.

they get money...when I was in college stay on campus I knew a few football players....they got SO much Scholarship money, grants, etc. that they ended up with $10k-$40k refund checks....on TOP of housing, books, UNLIMITED meals, etc......and that was not a HUGE school....I can only imagine what the top ranked schools give their athletes...

I think the attitude changes as the schools get bigger. Small private universities might be more interested in treating student athletes with respect than large schools, even if they're both paying tuition. Some like Ohio State depend on their sports programs to keep things running; I think they spent $250 million on athletics a year. At that point, it becomes less "how can we nurture student athletes in a positive environment?" and more "how much will it cost us to have a good team?"
Fun fact: removing names, I know someone who tutored a major college football quarterback. Apparently they didn't even know FRACTIONS. There comes a point where "helping athletes" crosses over into "business expense."
Point being: rock 'em South Park.

If South Parks argument is valid then Peter Moore should receive a check in the mail for using his likeness.
I don't care whose name is on the screen in NCAA games. That's the beauty of it. I'm enjoying the sport without your big name players.
I'd feel bad for them but they got a free ride while I paid off my student loans for a decade

She was also shown in a commercial in the episode, so they could say she used make-up to hide the floppy head.

They use an actual picture of Saddam, though. If they use a celebrity's actual likeness for their head, it's always floppy.
Mel Gibson is the only other example I can think of off the top of my head.

Anyone else find it funny that south park goes after ea for not giving proper royalties to athletes but during the writers strike they sided with the studios against writers who wanted the same thing (interestingly enough, parker and stone already had what the writers wanted.)

I think EA's response requires you to Pre-Order it and buy the 50,000 DLCs that will come along with it in the mail.

For real though, the show has been in a slow decline ever since season 8. New episodes range from bad to decent, but go back and watch the classics and you'll see that there's no comparison.

Your critique is so vague that i dismiss it. I'm also guessing that may be short to tall. If you enjoyed "classic" episodes then how possibly can you rate (so many) other shows/ seasons as mediocre? Only thing to change, better yet improve, is the animation itself... I consider your opinion illogical.
