The remastered Splinter Cell Trilogy for PlayStation 3 looks to have been pushed back to August, according to several retailers. Amazon, GameStop and GameFly (which conveys release date information only when received from publishers) each list the title with an August 2 release date.
After missing its initial March ship date, Splinter Cell was due to arrive in stores and on PSN in late June. When we asked Ubisoft to confirm a ship date, we were told, "We currently do not have a ship date for it. It will be sometime this summer."
[Thanks, Josh]

I'm holding out for a 360 release. There's no reason not to do it. The Xbox versions were always the better versions. Plus, I'd love to play Chaos Theory online with my friends(who are all on XBL.)

Apparently they took the multiplayer out of the remakes, And what has the xbox versions being better than the PS2 versions got to do with it?

Where have you guys been? They are based on the PC version:

And btw, if they're remastered, each title might go over 2.1GB which is against Microsoft's XBLA games' size limit.

Really looking forward to playing Chaos Theory again. Easily the stealthiest stealth game I've played. It's so very satisfying.

And thank god every enemy in these games cant see bright green light.

What is the deal lately with all of this PS3 love?!?! Kratos in MK, splinter Cell, House of the Dead: Overkill Ext Cut, and Xbox 360 gets Hulk Hogan's Main Event... wait for it.... Kinect. Why can't White Knight come to Xbox 360 by the way?

Kratos: Sony owned character
House of the Dead: Wiimote controls good fit for Move
White Knight 2: Japanese market mainly
Splinter Cell: No idea, I would guess a 360 version down the line

Kratos: I know, but did like The Pit 360. Wondered what that would of looked like. House of the Dead could have some kind of Kinect-enabled functionality. White Knight: Expand the franchise, would love to see it on Xbox 360.

it's kind of weird seeing this coming as a PS3 exclusive when the those games in fact helped the original Xbox to gain some extra fans and the original was described as a tittle that only that console could handle perfectly (i heard the ports were not as visually impressive in PS2 as they were in Xbox).

@Therion
It may be weird but not illogical. Splinter Cell is not under contract with Microsoft. So i see this as nothing more then nice business move by Sony looking to garner some SC fans.
Now if Halo HD (ever) is released with new levels, story and a behind the scenes chat with Master Chief Blu Ray, i would get my copy & paste condolence statement(s) ready for all the follow up suicides committed on Joystiq.

@Therion Yeah, PS2 wasnt as powerful as the original xbox, But that meant nothing, PS2 was still better.

Is this just a port of the PC version? I recall Splinter Cell already being in "HD" (i.e. running at high resolution) on the original PC release. So the question is: is this simply a port back, or have they actually redesigned menus, added new textures, etc.?
Posted: May 27th 2011 2:02PM LEONLEONLEON said
@Aerothorn The PC version of any game runs at whatever resolution the users monitor can do.
The remake is a port with new textures and stuff like that.

Yes you can do 1920 x 1080 on the PC Version. I was just playing it yesterday.
You can also play Online and Coop on it too. A thing this "HD" Remake doesn't have. Plus the PC ver. is cheaper...like always.

So how come this isn't coming out on 360, anyway?
(and for the person asking above about White Knight, Level 5 pretty much develops exclusively for Sony, unless it's a DS game.)

Damn you Ubi!
First Ghost Recon and now this!
What the hell is going on over there? Is every single 1 of their development studios working on AC: Revelations, Rocksmith and probably Just Dance 3/Michae Jackson 2???
Oh well. Whatever. Just more money for me to save.

@(Unverified) Yeah, Ive played all but MGS3, And i really want to, I have it in my room, But i find PS2 games hard to play these days. The control schemes can be a bit odd. I think this gen developers have all found a much more usable control scheme for most games.

That's so funny that I forgot to laugh.
I'm not tearing up, as I never really got into the splinter cell games. It just seems kind of f***** up that Ubisoft would turn their back on the Xbox like that.
@LEONLEONLEON
You missed out then. I'm not an Xbox fanboy or anything but the Xbox versions of Splinter Cell are superior to the PS2/GC versions in almost everyway.
The Xbox version of Chaos theory looked like a next gen game before the 360 even came out: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_M4yFQ7FOATg/TMmFsh6Jd7I/AAAAAAAAAiw/Npy1deUAMLs/s1600/ScreenShot1.jpg

What i AM doing is, "telling" you that there is no moral discrepancy with this upcoming release.

these things happen. for instance Tekken was to Sony only and now 360 has it. also Splinter Cell Conviction is out for 360 only .. and we PS3 gamers did not get it ( i hear it's bad but i haven't finished any SC past the 2nd title ) good or bad i still want to finish it up but it's not out for PS3. you win some you lose some.

my guess is that it would not fit on a dvd, all those games were originally on a dvd and making them look better, and all on 1 disk would be hard even on a dual layer dvd

I like the idea of HD bundles of remakes. Instead of having to have three discs and a PS2/Xbox hooked up, I can just play it on my current console. I've already got three consoles and a PC hooked up to my TV; I'd rather not hook up the old ones as well.
I'd still love a R&C collection and a Jak collection.
