Following the recent delay of the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus remakes, Sony Computer Entertainment has now provided a new release window for the PS3 games in Japan: September 22. In that region, each game is sold separately for ¥3,980 ($50). Sony is also offering a single box with both games in it for ¥6,980 ($87), which adds a 100-page booklet and dynamic PS3 themes.
Along with the announcement, new Japanese sites have opened for both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus And if you listen closely, you can hear Ico calling you past the break of this post, beckoning you toward the new trailer. Can you hear it? Buhhhhhhhhhhh!
Yeah, I'm only paying about $40 for the set of two. This is idea of selling them separately for about $50 in Japan is absurd. If this is what happens here in the States, then I'll have to wait for a good sale or price drop.
@(Unverified) This is one of those times I will not even pay attention to the price tag when I purchase this bundle. And thanks to digital sales (Steam, GoG, etc), that means a lot from me. :)
Not a "graphics whore" since I love old games with a passion but looking at SotC without the "fog"... wow. Just wow.
In hopes that others will see this, I'm going to use keywords:
$39 gets you BOTH games, Amazon, United States, In One Box (Same price at Gamestop, Bestbuy, etc)
This special edition, as far as we know, is Japan only. The US version does not have a booklet, or if it does, it hasn't been announced. It most certainly will not come in that special box, because that is designed for two PS3 cases, and both games come in one case in the US.
Also, there is no release date for the US version yet.
Japan is known to have notoriously high priced games. Just as an example; Dark Souls, a game that is being released this year will cost approximately $97 over in Japan when it will sell for the standard price of $60 over in America.
Expect ICO and Shadow of Colossus to come here bundled together for $40; complete will terrible box art.
@mywhitenoise Remember, the japanese prices and the US prices could be vastly different. While all of us here loved the game, its still a remake, and on top of that, one of those Love it or hate it games. Im sure the prices will very for the US to show its popularity in the US.
@BananaBoat Where do you buy your imports from? I really want this box set but the last time I bought any imports was from play-asia about 8+ years ago. :p
50 bucks each? they better not pull that shit here. Its not like they redid all the textures and models, most of it still looks like a PS2 game with blurry tiled textures. I will not be getting this at 50 bucks each, no way in hell, I would pull out my PS2 before paying that much.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm kind of bummed. Seems like it's not really delivering on what was promised and is more expensive than it should be. Still since this is just the Japanese version, I guess I can unfurrow my brow for a little while I suppose.
Guys, the keyword here is "Japan". It's $40 for BOTH games here in the states. That has already been confirmed, and all the retail outlets already have pre-orders up for that price.
@BananaBoat THIS x1000 People just don't read anymore. They skim through, only get the bits and then you get comments like, "What?!?!?1 It was only gonna be $40 for both I'm not buying these now yada yada yada." Personally I'd pay $100 right now for the collection in the US, I can't stand this waiting.
I don't think it has anything to do with people not reading. I think some people are just concerned that that there could be a potential change to the release plans (i.e. changing from one disc to two).
I love Ico and SoC.... but game remakes are starting to get "GeorgeLucasfied" - Different media, little added value, same price. That's not a good combination.
The latest HD bundle of PS2 games for the PlayStation 3, the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection brings Team ICO's PS2 classics to the bigger screen.
