Square working on some slick, pricey new Halo figures

Following on its Halo: Reach figures, Square-Enix has announced plans to release more products based on the Halo franchise. In conjunction with the upcoming tenth anniversary of the series, Square is producing a pair of "re-envisioned" figures, one of a Spartan V and one of the Master Chief himself. As Square notes, the figures have been updated with "sleek lines" and "minor alterations," all resulting in "a sense of fictional reality and massiveness present in Japanese sci-fi entertainment." Or, to put it a little more delicately, dayum.

A release is planned for later this year, with a retail price of $54.99 each. The figures will also be shown at Square-Enix's booth during E3. We'll be sure to stop by and steal ... er ... take some pictures. Check out hi-res photos of both figures in the gallery below.

SQUARE ENIX PRODUCTS ANNOUNCES NEW LINE-UP OF HALO ACTION FIGURES
RE-ENVISIONED MASTER CHIEF to Debut at Electronic Entertainment Expo

LOS ANGELES (June 3, 2011) – Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in the Americas, announced today a series of premium quality action figures including Master Chief from the popular Halo® universe. In commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the HALO franchise, Square Enix Products expands the HALO action figure line beyond the successful HALO: REACH PLAY ARTS® -KAI- series in a continued collaboration with 343 Industries.

HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED PLAY ARTS -KAI- MASTER CHIEF (Envisioned by Square Enix Products) is an original take on Master Chief based on the iconic character from Halo: Combat Evolved. The beloved character is re-imagined with sleek lines common to the sci-fi style, iconic of other Square Enix products. While the characteristics of Master Chief remain true to the original video game, the added details and minor alterations result in delicately crafted parts with unmatched realism. The robust build adds a sense of fictional reality and massiveness present in Japanese sci-fi entertainment.

In addition to HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED PLAY ARTS -KAI- MASTER CHIEF, Square Enix Products is scheduled to also release a limited edition SPARTAN MARK V (Black). Both figures are slated for a late 2011 release.

The figures will debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 7-9, 2011. 1st of all comparing these new figures to old ones. Would be more appropriate to compare them to the Reach line, but whatever.

Looking even closer the SE figures look much worse.
-Terrible proportions.
-Gigantic ball joints.
-Miss-matched armor plates. Seriously, why the hell are the upper part of his bicep armor rotated when it is all the same piece in-world? -Anorexic waistlines. Sports clearly have not muscle mass on their torsos.
-Weapons aren't to scale

Plenty more things I could hit. But one thing that really jumps out.

@kmcroc Oh, and just as an afternote. The image you linked, of that figure? Yea, that for a miniature that came with the controller. Not a proper McFarlane figure.

That original halo story line eerily seems to fit the bill. Though you might need to fight some freaky age old flood bitch queen final boss. It be set like that.

i was trying to figure why it looks funny; it's because the waist is too small. makes the chest look weird, and makes the hips stick out too far.

Bodybuilders don't have realistic physiques so that point is moot. Real strong men are quite porky as fat supports the spine during heavy lifting.

how can a bodybuilder not have a realistic physique? they're real people, after all. i think you meant "typical." also there are different types of bodybuilders, rtard, not all of them are those rotund worlds-strongest-man type.

but fine. i don't need bodybuilders to make my case. NO person in history has ever had hips like that. men in particular don't have protruding hips at all. making the chest look enlarged is alright because it's accentuating a feature, but doing those hips like that is adding a feature where there never was one. it makes him look like a freakin' Elite. i can't believe that design was ever approved.

It's called a stylised look for a reason. You'd have an aneurysm if you watched cartoons.

Say an artist paid decided to recreate a piece of work from someone else for whatever reason but in their own style, it wouldn't look the same because their style doesn't match the artist of the work but it's still pretty much the same thing they're painting.

The Macfarlane halo figures are so crudely made. Glad someone is stepping it up. I bought one some time ago, and the arm was backwards on it. Backwards.

Those are horribly ugly and disproportionate. It looks like his legs take up 2/3 of the height of his body and his head looks tiny. Also, his hips/thighs are huge and in conjunction with his tiny waist he looks way to feminine.

Good gosh I hope that's not how he's proportioned in the first 343i Halo game. This is not a good sign...

Let me start off by saying I hate weeaboos. For the love of god stop bending over to the most xenophobic culture on the planet. Also this toy looks lame as hell to the original series from McFarlane.

Wow. They cost more than the actual game.
I'd like to see them redo the entire line, limit to 100 pieces each, and done in metal (not resin/plastic).

get the guys that are doing the upcoming gears statue and gun to do the halo stuff. the marcus status is amazing. near the quality of high end collectibles.
