A total of six multiplayer maps from Halo: Combat Evolved will be playable in Halo: Reach's online multiplayer along with a retooled campaign level for Firefight mode. Halo: CE Anniversary will not support Xbox Live multiplayer whatsoever (outside of co-op). These maps are for loading into Halo: Reach (think: ODST), according to comments made by 343 Industries' Frank O'Connor on Spike TV. He also said it will be a budget-priced game.
Hit the jump for the teaser trailer shown during Microsoft's E3 2011 press conference.
Update: O' Connor clarified with Joystiq that Anniversary's multiplayer component, while employing the Reach engine, will still be playable on the Anniversary disc itself. The game will also include a voucher to download the maps for play within Halo: Reach.
no, i don't think so. i think what they're saying is the the campaign uses the same old Halo 1 engine with new skins (+ has godpistol), but the multiplayer is completely within Reach (no godpistol). though i could be wrong.
It's going to be like ODST. One disc will be campaign with co-op, second disc will be like the Mythic disc from ODST, with the newly redone Halo:CE maps (which will essentially just be new maps for Reach) and (I suspect) a collection of all the Reach maps so far.
are you just assuming or was this actually confirmed somewhere? i would imagine the maps would just copy to your HDD. keep in mind they said it is a "budget title". adding a 2nd disc isn't a good way to make money on a budget title. look at ODST..
@Mr Hett More like you have to have Halo Reach and now the Halo CE anniversary or else it's either no multiplayer or bare bones multiplayer without all the maps and thus half the options unavailable.
This has always been my pet peeve with Halo games, you always have to keep up with all the bonus games like odst and now this to keep playing the main game.
Not entirely confirmed, here are Frankie's exact words from HBO:
: anyone think that'll it will just have online co-op, with multi maps being : released for reach, ala ODST and mythic maps? Reach mp yes, all included in one launchable package. More details soon.
Initially the Mythic 2 maps were available only through the ODST Mythic disc. They didn't become available for purchase through the marketplace until about six months later.
@Rocket Raccoon: No, it works like ODST. The CE remake comes with the entire Reach multiplayer suite, PLUS seven classic Halo CE maps. So it's the definitive Halo multiplayer edition, at least until the next map pack comes out.
Seriously, give me Sidewinder, and I won't leave the house for some time, social life and jobs be damned! (Okay, maybe not really, but damn if that wasn't the greatest multiplayer map ever made.)
@Rocket Raccoon No. Those who don't want to get Reach can play them on reach. Those who get CE Remake can play them with those who have them for Reach.
@Rocket Raccoon - If it's like ODST, no. Since ODST came with all Halo 3 maps on a separate disk, you just pop it in and boom, you're on Halo 3's MP.
I'm assuming they're doing the same, by including all of Reach's maps on a separate disk, along with the remakes, then the CE remake campaign on it's own disk.
The maps are for Reach. Makes sense if you think about it. I guess 343i doesn't want to invest any time/money in XBL matchmaking for the anniversary edition of Halo considering it will only "last" for a year then Halo 4 will be released.
@Captain Planet Planeteer Power I actually agree, who would want to divide the community even more when Reach still has multi going on and there will be Halo 4 coming next year. I actually have no problem with this, but I am a bit disappointed that I already downloaded those 2 map packs and they pulled another ODST situation. Oh well.
Come on, Joystiq. If you're just going to copy and paste IGN's article, you should at least fix their mistakes first. Damnation was a Halo 1 map and was never in Halo 2, meaning all seven maps are from Halo 1.
@AfroKola Wait. So you weren't interested in Halo:Anniversary when it was a complete stand-alone game, single player and multi-player, but now that multi-player is just Reach DLC, it's suddenly appealing to you? This is logical, because?
Kind of lame. I think most people were wanting a Halo:CE remake to finally be able to play it on Live. Now that the multiplyer is going to just be Reach DLC, it's not as appealing.
@MEGATOOL: I'm absolutely sure "most people" don't care about Halo CE for its multiplayer. The majority are excited about it because it's more Halo, or the campaign. Don't let the vocal minority confuse the issue.
A lot of people do want a CE online component, but I daresay it's not "most people". In fact, I guarantee it.
Damn shame Halo 1 multplayer is pure and fun though Reach did a good job of capturing the feel of it, it still had the annoying armor abilities which throw balance out the window in favor of obnoxious mind games.
I'm not going to bitch about the multiplayer limitations. Since I've only been a live gamer for about five years and played Halo much longer than that.
Anyway,
Best decision in the Halo franchise since customizable spartans, in my opinion.
Marking the 10-year anniversary of the original release, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is a remastered version featuring HD graphics, Xbox Live support., and classic Halo: CE maps for the Halo Reach multiplayer experience.
