I've never been this excited about anything.

Very excited. I heard (just in comments...tell me if I'm wrong) that the CE maps are being revamped ONLY in Reach as DLC and not actually a part of the Anniversary disc / package included.
If so, VERY lame.
Reach engine / gameplay within those maps is excellent but we need the old nostalgic feeling with the TRUE CE gameplay (no assassinations...) but with revamped graphics. Now that's a better package.

The multiplayer maps are only for Reach. CE will only contain the campaign and online co-op.

I actually think that's the best way to handle it. It's better to have everything on one disc rather than going from disc to disc just to play a specific map. I'd rather play the maps in Reach anyways. Better game.
If people actually go back and play Halo CE now(the original) then the people who complain that it's still the best Halo MP would change their mind instantly. It hasn't aged very well.

I think this is the first time I have really seen an official remake of a commercial title live up to my expectations in the visuals department right out of the gate. I figured this would just run on the CE engine with higher resolution textures slapped onto the same maps and maybe some updated lighting models, but I didn't think they would actually leverage the Reach engine and build the geometry and everything up from scratch. Those screenshots look really good.
I hope they make the HUD contour to the helmet like in the recent games, I thought that was a cool touch.

Oops, didn't mean to reply to this comment. But since I already did, I did read somewhere that they are including the Reach multiplayer game in the package (second disc?) ala Halo 3: ODST & Mythic, which is suppose to come with the throwback maps and serve as the online component for the anniversary game. Not positive if that was legit or just rumors but it seems like a good idea to me.

I think it's still pretty lame. What about those of us who want to do the old split-screen versus? We'll still end up having to switch discs, and that's assuming we even have a copy of Reach in the first place.

If you read Frank's inaugural post at HaloWaypoint.com, you see why they chose that, but further, it would show how difficult the decision was. It sounds like they really really care about the game and it's fan and don't take any decision lightly.
Whether you like the end result or not, you should know they aren't just making rash decision without caution.

Its ok we re going to play those multiplayer maps with the reach engine in which im ok with. Not unless they change the experience into reach multiplayer. As long as they have the old guns, gametypes and maps. Im A-OK

You'll play through thinking its exactly like you remembered it. It's only when you look at the older screenshots you'll realize how much the graphics have changed.
Am looking forward to this.
(Except playing the library again)

For me it's going to be The Truth and Reconciliation. It's the only level that doesn't have the pistol. Legendary will be a nightmare.

I am so looking forward to this. It's like nostalgia in HD. =D Seriously this brings me back to being 15 years old. Good times. =)

Also, I love the fact that it will have the ability to swap back and forth between the HD visuals and the original visuals in real time. That is just too cool.

The original game still looks very good graphically for a 10 year old game.

@TheMichaelJackson Yeah, to this day I think the Xbox (notthe 360) never was used to it's full potential. I mean Doom 3 looked fantastic almost PC like, Conkers Remake... one of the best looking games on the system, and almost looked Next Gen with its lighting (Mind you it also looked stunning on the N64 ;)).

Anyone else think the helmet look more like the MacWorld 99 demo, rather than the CE version?

Aw. I was hoping it would get actually remade, not just with a graphics overhaul.
Now it will look really pretty while we go through the same four buildings, two tunnels and vaguely uniform outdoor areas over and over.

Just to clarify the map situation the maps are for Reach, but they will be on the disc if you just want to play on the seven new maps. You will also be able to download the maps to your hard drive so you can use them when to play Reach normally.

Kills anniversary with 3 shots from the pistol from across the map.
