New HD Zelda hinted for Wii U
38
During the last few seconds on Nintendo's Wii U announcement video, we caught a quick glimpse of what looked like a new Zelda title, in which Link fought a massive, hairy spider. Game Informer is now reporting that it was indeed real-time footage. Nintendo wouldn't confirm whether or not an actual game is in development, but we'd say it's more than probable.

That footage was hot but damn why does it have to be for a system so unattractive?

Nintendo is going to release a Zelda game? Inconceivable! Next you'll be telling me that they're also working on Mario and Metroid games!

That's how they do it. Reveal a console that is obviously marketed to the casual audience and then follow it up with a Zelda reference just to give hardcore gamers the illusion that there will actually be games for the console this time around.

@Reapers which you can play on your old and reliable ps3 without having to spend on a new console

I didn't see a single casual title announced for it. I watched the whole thing. Did I miss something? Battlefield 3 is now...casual?

I'm glad they didn't just push back Skyward Sword further so it could be on the WiiU. I need to get my Zelda on this year!

maybe it's just a HD skyward sword moment? I mean skyward sword isn't out yet so you can't say its a new Zelda game..

I think M.Bison has a good example of most of our reactions when we say this.

This looks 1000 times better than skyward sword, don't get me wrong I LOVE zelda but SS just looks weird. I'm still buying it though.

@Enrique Ramrez - Oh man, I remember how amazed I was when I saw that demo, and how heartbroken I was when I saw Wind Waker. Don't get me wrong, I liked Wind Waker, but it wasn't what had been promised.
I'll take this teaser image with a grain of salt until I see the game in action.

@PulpHero - Some of us were pretty young at the time. A tech demo shown during E3, and then reprinted in Nintendo Power, was as good as a sure thing. We didn't know what "tech demo" meant.

@PulpHero Exactly. And that's exactly the point as well. Many people seem to be taking for granted that a new, HD Zelda is coming, when all we've seen so far is ANOTHER tech demo.
I was just reminding that, well... life's not always as good as we'd want.

Zelda HD... OMG, this was gorgeous.
I really hope Zelda WiiU turns out to be something like this. I don't want a repeat of the Link vs Ganon Gamecube demo that turned into Wind Waker. Blegh.

Reading the comments it seems people want the hardcore and the exclusives to fork out for this but im trying to think what nintendo exclusives can be considered by the hardcore crowd. Smash bros? has zelda moved to a casual game like mario has? Metroid? Idn but I would kill someone for a gritty star fox fps.

Mario Galaxy (both) is a casual game now? Yes it's easy to get to the ending sequence if you don't bother playing the difficult levels, but what 'hardcore' player would want to leave half the levels unfinished?
Certainly it's no more 'casual' than any other popular game (shooters, Grand Theft Auto, etc). There are some unpopular games which are rather more hardcore (e.g. the dungeon series on DS, I forget what it's called) but in general almost all games are casual - as in, they are somewhat challenging, but players of average ability should generally be able to finish the game without a ridiculous level of frustration.
The type of moron who won't play a fun game because it has cute characters rather than ugly space marines? This is STILL not the system for you. Yes you will most likely now be able to get Generic Shooter 78 on this system as well as the other two, but it'll have slightly worse graphics and that's all you care about so why bother?
Imo the third party game thing is not for hardcore gamers. Hardcore gamers already have a PS3/60 so what do they care? If they have the money and are smart they'll get this as well for the first-party stuff and the odd cute/casual exclusive but probably most games they'll still get on the other systems.
This is for people who really like Nintendo games, so they want a Nintendo system, but when there is some kind of big video game event like an LA Noire or an Assassin's Creed or whatever, there's a chance they won't be left out of that either.
Or it's for people who only want to make room for / only can afford one game system; the games for the 6-year-old boy are all on Nintendo but the 38-year-old mother wants to spend her after-bedtime free hours ripping zombies to pieces and that wasn't so easy on the original Wii.

Mario, being the benchmark of pushing hardware past where everyone else thought impossible, is going to look simply amazing on this system.

I realize they gave us a Holiday 2011 due date, but seems to me they've been putting the horse before the carriage lately. Twilight Princess Gcube/wii thing, now 'announcing' another before we see the one promised LAST E3...yikes.

Wii made me lose faith in Nintendo. Maybe I will wait 4 years, buy the system at the discounted price and all the exclusives, (All 3 of them) and be happy then. We shall see next fall. Maybe I will not be able to wait.
