The shape and placement of the joysticks kinda reminds me of those fan-made portable systems people make with PS1 screens. Hopefully this is more comfortable to hold...

I don't play mini games for 5 minutes at a booth. I play games like Zelda for hours on end. I'd imagine that would get uncomfortable during long play sessions, is all im saying.

My first thought when looking at those sticks (or "circle pads," I think they're called) was "It reminds me of an Etch-a-Sketch."

It's probably just my own irk toward that site, but I don't know why anyone believes IGN for anything. Feel free to agree/disagree.

Anyway, has there been any mention of overall battery usage/power supply time?

The controller probably weighs less than an ipad, and I can game on that thing for hours holding it in my hands. I don't see it being an issue.

Sure looks like those portable console hacks.
Right stick and button positioning is weird though, unlike any controller I've seen before.

@Shockwave It looks slightly nicer than a "Ben Heck" project. i trust Nintendo to make nice portable hardware - which I consider this a strange subset of, but it still comes off as awkward.

Well it's not a stand along system. But lets say the controller itself is like a 30 dollar thing add in the screen and bluetooth and the controller could easily top 70 bucks. The fact that Nintendo rarely ever takes a hit means they probably want eat some of the price of this thing themselves and it might get to $85 or more, and People complained that the Move was expensive?

@wqerty I keep hearing people talk about the price, but I really don't see it being an issue. Why? Because one will obviously be included with the console, and, while everyone seems to assume it'll support more, I have seen nothing claiming that it does. Has anyone seen any evidence that one can use multiple Wii U controllers at once? I think it'd be technically a problem as well due to the processing power and wireless bandwidth required for streaming the video to the screen on the controller.

I really want to know how this thing feels in the hands of someone who plays hardcore games (your battlefields, calls of duties, etc). It looks very unwieldly to me but I'm not sure if its because of just a look, or if its because I feel like your hands are so far apart from each other.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Its not just hand space, but the awkward positioning of the analog sticks as well. There's simply no reason for them to be placed in the corner and above everything else like they are.

Actually, there is a reason. If they were not where they are, you could not reach the shoulder or trigger buttons easily.

Looks interesting, you can see lots of shots of the Wii U and the Controller along with specs here: http://e3.nintendo.com/hw/ (loads best in IE unfortunately, broken in Firefox).

controller appears to have a rechargeable battery. No mention of a hard-drive in the specs, only infernal flash memory.

Works fine with Firefox 4.

Also it says in the specs that there's onboard flash memory and external hard drive support.

Yep, more info from the website about the actual console than the damn PRESENTATION, PRESENTING the thing for the FIRST time.

Nintendo, it seems some people need to be fired or have paycuts for this cockgobbled mess.

Already you have people thinking the Wii U is just the controller, no console. Gee, I wonder why? Certainly not that you didn't officially present the console, mention the console explicitly. If you don't have concrete details yet, don't freaking release any information. Certainly like this.

I mean seriously. This is one giant mess and people will continue to get the details wrong forever now. You made a very BAD first impression. Kudos!

I must be getting old too. I just enjoy being able to sit down with a controller and play without all the stuff added on. While the controller is interesting, it looks like more work in playing and it can't be comfortable long term.

It looks interesting, although I have concerns about comfort.

If the Wii remotes are compatible with this, I'm not too concerned about price, because I'll probably only get one of these and use the Wii remotes for guests (who will only be interested in playing, like, Mario Kart or a sports mix or something with me... nothing that needs a new, giant controller).

Yes, they've done it. This gimmick is a piece of shit. This time however I don't think the casuals will buy into it. Hoping it and the 3DS bomb, and then Nintendo go back to putting effort into their consoles.

The reason the Wii sold so well to "Casuals" was the price...
I just can't see that happening with this, I mean the controllers gotta be worth 5-100 quid!?

The main problems with the Wii were: No hardcore game support, motion controls, and no HD. Well, they fixed all those concerns, yet you still hope they fail.

They fixed that stuff but they completely whiffed on the controller. This is a casual controller not a core controller for core games. Why can't they just release a REGULAR controller? You going to buy 2 or 3 of these things?

If this was Sony releasing this controller instead of Nintendo people would be raking it over the coals for its size, price and functionality. But, Nintendo gets a free pass.

Well, 2 press reports are both saying that its lightweight and the buttons are in perfect position. And who says that it wont be awesome? The DS uses two screens, and its considered to be one of the best gaming features ever incorporated. And the Dreamcast VMU was also like this. It made games like NFL2k and some RPGs so much better. maybe its big, but there are proven cases of success for its stye, so you can't judge it poorly just by it look.

Why are you so comfortable with Sony never trying anything new? I don't get it. And this IS a hardcore controller. You're going to have crazy options for input as well as traditional controls. And another screen? can you really not see some awesome capabilities? This really is something for everyone. Hell, I'd be worried about the price but if they can sell the PSV for $250, they can sell this reasonably as well.

I think it holds alot of potential. Pricepoint, how devs tap into it and obviously a range of games will be important.
It seems like it could leverage much of the peripherals/accessories folk s have already bought for their Wiis... which could be a selling point.
