Here it is, folks -- the Wii's successor, the Wii U. It kinda looks like a Wii and an Xbox 360 had an adorable baby. We'll have better shots of the Wii U as soon as we can, but for now, here you go!
Update: We've got a more official shot (though similarly small, unfortunately) after the break.
Update 2: A more official, significantly larger shot just came into our tips box. The Wii U: Still adorable.
Update 3: We've got a full gallery of official shots now, just below.
[Thanks Evan!]

They must still be working on a lot of the innards of the system if they only brought up the new console once (maybe twice?) for a grand total of about 10 seconds.
At least the new controller will keep people talking until more info on the console is released.
But between Wii U and PS Vita...the 2011 E3 will be remembered as a dark time in console/handheld naming :(

I'm still confused. It's a Wii 2.5? It's a Wii controller? What? What is this thing?
It's too big to really be portable, but too small to be a console. Where are they going with this actually?

what no one has mentioned... assuming this is an LCD screen on the controller, the brightness of the display will be halved after about 2-4 years depending on how often you use it. That right there is a fail to me. I'll still likely get the WiiU, mainly for Smash Bros, but not as enthused as I hoped to be.

I love how "it plays Assassins creed, Batman, and maybe BF3" means "it's a beast." 360 and PS3 already play those and will play BF3, where does that put them?
Not saying the system isn't capable, but perhaps we shouldn't bust out the hyperbole quite yet.

What don't you guys get? This is gonna be f*ckin' awesome! If you can't see the potential, then I'm glad you're not in game design.

You can watch pr0n on the controller screen when you die in smash bros without distracting the other players too much

that's not really answering his question, I would like to know the potential as well, aside from the one or two things the video showed that wowed me (which isnt enough to get me to buy this)

The problem with Ashitaka is he's a huge troll so it's not a real question. There's literally nothing I could say that would be a satisfactory answer, so why waste my time?

What's wrong with philosophy? Guess somebody got mad lol
There's barely any potential for this. Most of the interconnectivity between the console and the controller have already been demonstrated with a PS3 and a PSP and now with the Vita. Except you can actually take a PSP and a Vita on the go. There's only so much a second screen can do without it becoming a useless gimmick. Nintendo got it right with the Wii Remote, the problem is this large, bulky gimmick has barely any appeal. I'll quote a comment which I think sums up everything:
"Hi, Nintendo here. Remember when we said to drop the controllers, gather around the TV, and just play? Well, now grab a giant controller, turn off the tv, and become a hermit."
When this comes out in 2012, you'll be able to play Darksiders II, Batman Arkham City, Assassin's Creed, Dirt, Aliens, Tekken, Ninja Gaiden 3... all titles which you'll already be playing on PS3 and 360.
