Is Beyond Good & Evil 2 still alive? Yes. Will you still be alive when it comes out? Well, that's a question we posed to project lead Michel Ancel, whose attention is currently focused on his vibrant 2D platformer, Rayman: Origins. "Before Rayman we were working on Beyond Good & Evil 2," he said during an E3 meeting. "And the project is still on the tracks. I'd love to come back to it."
Ancel describes the game as an ambitious, conceptually amorphous undertaking, still being prototyped and still looking for a home. "It's a question of making all those things able to fit the constraints of the consoles," he said. "But with this kind of game, we can do prototypes on very high-end PCs and we can really try to play in the kind of future-console style hardware. So, it's just a question of saying, 'Okay, do we cut everything and rebuild to these consoles, or do we try to move forward?'"
Does that mean the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are out? "I can't say totally no," Ancel said, "but the questions are still open."
The small team crafting Beyond Good and Evil 2 is wary of downscaling its vision, making it essential "to have the game on the best platform, to make [the concepts] fit." And while that happens, for who-knows-how-long, fans can take advantage of the game industry's diversity."The good thing is we are not the only one making games, so they can play a lot of other games," Ancel joked.
"The main thing, I would say, is that I'm waiting for that game as much as they are waiting for it. So that's pushing me to finish it."

I don't know how to feel about this. On one hand, I'm happy that the team is committed to making the best game possible, even if that means releasing it on next-generation consoles. On the other, I WANT BG&E2 NOW!!11!1

Let BG&E2 join the ranks of Episode 3. All but vaporware at this point. The fact that Ubisoft keeps saying "yes and no" in regards to it being in development doesn't really mean much for me, the end consumer. Yes, great games take time and I appreciate it when a studio takes its time in making a game the best in can be, but when you have a complete lack of information and absolutely no way of telling if the project is any closer to completion now as opposed to two years ago, you can't help but feeling frustrated.
So in short, I'm happy for you but a fan can only run on "We're still making it guys!" with no other information for so much time before he/she thinks "Are they even serious about this?"

Yes. Ubisoft confirmed it last month. Wouldn't expect it any sooner than BG&E2 though.

Look guys, what did we learn from Duke Nukem Forever? Sequels to great games (such as Duke Nukem 3D and Beyond Good and Evil) will happen, it just takes a little patience. I'm fine waiting, because I'd rather wait for a quality product then some rushed cash in sequel.
With that same philosophy, I'm patiently waiting for sequels to Thief 3, Eternal Darkness and Clash at the Demonhead :)

PS4 launch title? 2014?
I could live with that... as long as there is some shred of hope of seeing it actualize!

Make it for PC. Then cut what you need to cut and port it to consoles, AFTER it's done on PC. Alternatively, make it on PC now and port it to the next generation of consoles when they're released.

I agree I would honestly like to see a game that is ported from the PC to consoles, If they are able to run it well on PC's then they should just go with it and release it on the PC. It would also be interesting since PC users seem to get the short end of the stick nowadays.

Realistically, this is doublespeak for saying that it might be a launch title for a next generation console.
Why?
Because this generation is saturated. The only thing that's going to sell right now is super-mainstream titles. That means, to Ubisoft management, Just Dance and Raving Rabbids for the casual audience, and to a lesser extent Tom Clancy, Far Cry, and Prince of Persia for the "hardcore". All marketing muscle and development dollars are being funneled into these two avenues, and right now it's about making as much money as possible.
Eventually, Ubisoft is going to have to make a launch title. Not only to get their feet wet with new hardware, but because the people spending the dollars on new games will start migrating, or saving up to migrate to the new platform(s) and the old platform dollars will dry up. Historically launch titles are great testbeds for new IPs, because launch gamers have a lot of disposable income and open minds. They're the opinion-makers, the trend-setters.
I suspect they'll try to shift their userbase to whichever platform they plan to support most by releasing a beloved franchise like BG&E as a launch title. That also probably means by testing the waters with the HD rereleases on PS3 and 360, they were testing the waters to see which new platform would get the exclusive. (more than likely whichever comes out first, though.)
For the time being, Ubi is putting no money into BG&E, and pushing Michel Ancel to focus on casual titles because he's the only proven producer they've got at Ubisoft that can bring in the casual. As much as I'm looking forward to Rayman Origins, it seems like a waste.

This guy makes sense. I don't like the truth of it, but it makes sense.
I just beat BG&E for the second time 10 seconds ago (technically BG&E HD). I bought it a while ago on XBLA solely in hopes that my purchase will help further the BG&E 2 project in some way.

BG&E2 will finally get made once Ubisoft kills those dumbass Rabbids, stops milking Assassin's Creed to death, and when people stop buying crappy dancing games.
I guess that puts the release date at Never, Never, 20Never.

While Beyond Good & Evil 2 is waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy over due, that statement is good enough for me. I'm pleased that he and his team are that committed to their vision and the game shall be a literal BEAST when it finally drops. Here's looking to the future! (Granted we're all still here when the game arrives lol)

Developers need to stop showing teaser trailers when they don't even have a friggin' game in development.
Sounds like they've got a tech demo and a bunch of ideas. Don't get our hopes up with crap like this and then say "Oh we'll get around to it someday".

Wait, no...he says he's waiting for it? That doesn't make sense.
He's waiting to develop it...for a console so powerful that it shits nukes...or something?
Wait, wait, wait....am I to understand that he was simultaneously waiting to develop it, WHILE actively developing it...only to get sidetracked by the development of a 2-D platformer...but now can not, in good conscious, continue developing it on our current, feeble consoles?
What? I'm so confused.
Whatever.
F*ck French people.

@Urethra Alfredo
What's so hard to understand, he was working on the game, but the direction they took became too complex for one reason or another for the current generation gaming consoles to handle, whether that be sheer scale, disk size, or performance, idk but something was holding them back and they chose to quit development until the next generation of consoles are in their hands that could reach the level of their "high end" gaming PC's.
As much as I would like to say, just release it on PC then, they aren't going to do that since it's controlled by Ubisoft.
