So New Super Mario Bros Mii is the exact same game they released 2 years ago? I imagine it will have the online play the first should have had, and honestly, I would re-buy it for the Wii to play online with friends, but it may be a while before they buy a Wii U, so I don't see myself buying this. Seriously, there has to be a lot more to this than just adding Miis to it? Right?

You realize it's just a tech demo and not an actual game, right?

@gatotsu911 You realize thats a tech demo is supposed to show the hardware capabilities. Using a dated game with some minor teaks is NOT a tech demo.

You do realize the tech demos are on the controller not on the Wii U's capabilities. If you watched their press conference they kept stuffing our face with the word inovation. Also it is a tech demo when one of them is about no lag on video feed to the controller.

How that is a tech demo for the WiiU?

Because, like the comment you just replied to said rather plainly, it's proving that the visuals on the controller don't lag behind the main screen.

Fantastic game that they should just re-release as a download for the Wii U. The only problem with it was how cumbersome it was to swap the GBA around for the person who controlled pacman.

Wii U Play? Wii Play U? Play U Wii? ugh... none of those sound any were normal.

This whole thing sounds interesting.... just wish they'd actually come out with something that actually sounds cool and fun. At this point I can't wait until TGS when they'll probably come out with some real info and games, other then.... well, whatever all this is.

while these are tech demos and proof of concept i can excuse a few things, but that only a non playable Zelda game was in HD by nintendo to me screams the hardware is far from final and its why no one would really talk about the graphics...

Sure things don't look too great with the Wii U, but I feel like there's so many acres of potential buried underneath what we see here. I'm gonna view the Wii U with optimism because I still feel like it'll be a massive hit. If there's something I've learned with Nintendo, they are like ninjas. You're not expecting them to get much but then they make billions of dollars right under your nose

@HybridPara "Sure things don't look too great with the Wii U"

Eh? Things look really great. The only downsides I see at the moment are the moronic, lazy name, and the lack of Gamecube support (which I totally understand). Everything else is innovative and has great potential. They're even courting the hardcore gamers, which means more content that I like.

Meh. "Potential" is a meaningless word to me, considering how I got hyped for and bought a Wii based on "potential" alone.

I'll only care about the Wii U when I actually see REAL games sitting on store shelves that personally have me thinking "THIS is a good use of the hardware". Until that happens I won't get excited for this. Got burned by the Wii too bad for me to ever get excited for "potential" ever again.

That's actually publisher's faults. What happened was Ubisoft hit big with raving Rabbids and Take2 hit big wih Carnival games that everyone had their developers cancle the games they were working on ( a lot of which were pretty bad ass) to make minigame clones. Thus, if it weren't for those two games hitting success big at the early life cycle Wii would've had a much better line up.

I'm interested to see what demographic Nintendo is going for with the Wii U. Will casual gamers upgrade from their Wii's; will the hardcore lot come across if the third party support is there? Really difficult to gauge at the moment. All I got from their keynote is that the 3DS is now rolling out the big guns and having to raise it's game. Would like to have seen more on the 3rd party games for that.

Reggie & Miyamoto said (in separate interviews) a couple months ago that the next Nintendo console would not be in 3d due to limited viewing angles on current glasses-less sets & that would mean that each player would need their own display....I guess we're half way there now.

There's some cute ideas...but it feels like it has the same lifetime as some expensive strange peripherals - great for a few games, annoying to use for most.

Of course, if Nintendo demonstrate that this is what people will buy, Sony and Microsoft will jump in and release improved versions. It feels like the PSV is halfway there already, if they can keep the latency down.

I'm not sure why but for the past few years Nintendo has failed to excite me with its new hardware. I'm not saying all of this is bad, it just doesn't peak my personal interests. Am I alone in this?

Nope, you're not alone. The past few years I look at Nintendo's E3 offerings and I go "oh. Neat, I guess", then go back to Demon's Souls.

Of course not, there are lots of people who don't like Nintendo hardware. Also, sadly you're far from alone in being unable to spell 'pique'. In fact that's probably an even higher portion of the population. :(

Personally I think the hardware looks nice. Well, I don't mean visually (it looks okay, but pretty much just a slightly uglier version of Wii - Wii ate all the pies?). But you know, the general concept of 'Wii but with better graphics - oh hey! And a totally random massive touchscreen controller thing' seems reasonably good, on the basis that I'm completely happy with Wii already except for the graphics.

Definitely agree with concerns about price - with the controller I expect this will almost certainly cost more than PS3 etc. Luckily, I'm personally in the position that I don't have to care about it (assuming they're not going to charge like $1,000, then I can afford to pay whatever) but if it's priced high that means fewer people will buy it, fewer games published for it, etc... We'll see.

Metroid is one Nintendo franchise that needs to stay away from Miis.

Not saying it will, and for a tech demo it is a nice little way of adding a theme, but just warning that in any future full Metroid experience Miis are not good.

I don't know what to make of this, specially "Battle Mii" which sounds like a game concept but at the same time reminded me of Atlantis for the Atari 2600. I don't know whether this is a good thing or not.

You never know. GameCube limped pretty badly through most of 2006 (biggest GC game in 06 was TP, also a Wii game, and the GC version actually released a few weeks after the Wii itself did).

Resident Evil 6 would be awesome with this implementation. Imagine playing side-stories side by side. One person plays it on their controller and the other on the tv and there's crossovers from time to time. Not to mention you can truly watch each other's backs without a split screen as the person with the controller will have a completely different perspective. You have to really turn your back to the TV to look behind you.

Imagine CoD with this or any multiplayer game. Imagine total mindf**k perspectives in a high action game.

It offers a lot of possibilities, I just hope developers use it to its full potential.

I wish they chose a capacitive display though, feel like they really limited themselves with just a resistive screen.

The possibilities are certainly there, though i think it would've come off better if they had integrated some of that stuff they showed for Wii Sports (like the aiming for pitching and catching in baseball)

I'm guessing that any WiiU game made can be treated as making a DS game. The remote can act as the bottom touch screen while the TV will act as the top screen.

This new controller has amazing new gameplay possibilities. If developers have any imagination at all, then we should see some incredible games for this system. The main problem: the controller looks really EXPENSIVE. Wouldn' t it have been simpler to do this with the 3DS using a wireless link?
