Oh, snap! I wonder why none of these companies thought of that?

Maybe with all your expertise in network protection you can give them a call and let them know they need to "protect themselves". I'm sure they'll be happy to hear such an idea.

Instead of denouncing the victim, why aren't you denouncing the perpetrator?

Seriously? Some people have too much time, and probably too much money on there hands and have nothing better to do. Also, Codemasters? Why?

@xFenixKnightx I guess once they took the Playstation Network offline because of the hackers, those same hackers decided to hack Codemasters for not letting them play DiRT 3 without the Playstation Store to redeem their online passes.

In other words, they probably got offended that they were affected by their own hacks, and so decided to blame someone else instead.

Geez, for a bunch of smart people, they really don't seem all that smart.

I knew it was going to happen, once everyone saw all the press that the Sony one got everyone everywhere was going to try to replicate it. Also remember how everyone (in the community) was flaming Sony for their poor security, it's not necessarily Sony had poor security so much as there are people out there that a) know more than you and b) have more time to focus on how to undo what you did than you do to prevent it.

Also remember that there are 2 kinds of "hacker" and only the negative one ever gets any print. The malicious hacker is the one everyone hears about. The original definition was for someone who either took something apart to better understand it, be it a physical object or digital asset. So don't get mad at people off the bat for being a hacker.

Lastly, hackers don't go to jail... They get hired.

I still think these are less "hacks" and more manipulation. I don't think the person (people) responsible are hacking away on their keyboards, going through code and finding a way in. They are using social media sites, google, blogs etc to gain info on people in a company. Then they use that info to scam a customer support person for the company webhost (or just "forgot password" field on a login page) into making changes to the account, thus granting this "scammer" access. Once in, they can just download everything and go over it at their leisure.

I mean think about it.. what kind of security questions are asked if you forget your password or changed your email address? They ask, favorite movie, mother's maiden name, first pet's name etc etc.. all things that can be found on most people's facebook profile.

I doubt Codemasters was a fully thought-out hack, but was just a site they could gain access to with this social media info. I'm sure there will be more to come.

I mean I could be wrong but honestly if any people reading this are CEOs or in charge of a web domain, then please just remove all your personal info and all your "likes" from Facebook. Problem solved.

@DekuTree I never WANT to become a politician. And for the record, it's not because they cut me off from some video games. I couldn't care less about playing online.

The problem is that they're just hacking whatever they want, whenever they want, for any reason, and it's getting out of hand. The US government wanted hacking to be similar to declarations of war, if I remember correctly, so that puts it in a more serious light.

Anyway, I obviously wasn't 100% serious, and I'm definitely not the only one saying these sorts of things. Then again, I can't help if I'm evil.

I think there should be virtual guard dogs for every site and if they detect somebody breaking in then they should travel through the internet, jump out of the hacker's computer monitor (like in The Ring), and tear him a new one.

Somebody make this a reality.

Well, if you're just part of the group mob, it's fine isn't it..

I think you're forgetting the reason the US wants it to be a declaration of war and an act of terrorism. It's so they can impose whatever law they want upon the internet, and enact complete control over it. Isn't that just dandy!

So this happened on 3 June, and we find out on 10 June (far later than we found out about the Sony breach) - you guys (Joystiq) _hammered_ Sony over the delay, and lots of other things, and yet go soooo softly-softly here. Are you trying to make yourselves look like biased fanboys?

This is just getting annoying, Epic was hacked too got an e-mail that my "Security has been compromised and here's your new password" from Epic Games, Code Masters too it seems. And for what? If these people are criminals they need to be caught and prosecuted (if they're stealing identieis) if they're just kids in it for the "rep" why do it? What does it get you?! BAH!
