Part of me wants to scream that, while another part of me knew that this type of view toward it is what it would get.

This game and its age old creation Duke Nukem went from tale, to myth, to legend.

This game has been a dream of owning since i was just starting middle school. Now almost reaching 30 not purchasing it seems almost unjust. It may fall short of what some expect it to be but I'll still be willing to take that chance just to see what I have been waiting for, for all these years

Wow, are you the second post?
What are you doing all the way down here?

Also, still buying this game, I saved up for it 14 years ago.
I'll still be kicking ass and chewing bubble gum.
Maybe sugar free gum.

That's what happens when you preorder games before demoing them or waiting for reviews.

Well it's DNF, which stands for Did Not Finish. So hey, don't be surprised if it feels half-baked.

At least Gearbox delivered something! Kudos to Gearbox.

The Devs are actually geniuses. Talk about meta.

In the game you can pick up a turd out of the toilet.

Replace the turd with a copy of Duke Nukem Forever (not a big stretch really), and replace the toilet with Gamestop (sounds right keep reading), and just like my 300lb ex-roommate after 'burrito-loco' night, we're going to witness one emotional midnight release....

And if you have Netflix...it won't cost you anything...sounds like a much better entertainment value hahah

Ok, after reading the whole thing I can understand where you're coming from with this review. I guess I'm not going to get it unless I play a demo and feel otherwise, I was looking forward to it though, bummer :-\

i played the demo. gotta say, it was nostalgic at first, but then it old. I didn't even finish the demo because i didn't feel there was a need to keep going. just save yourself a lot of money and buy DN3D on Xbox Live (or PSN).

I actually said exactly this out loud...

...and said "how" repeatedly...

all this said, I'll still play it because I have never let a review for any game tell me what I should do....just what to expect.

you know your totally right, I have also seen terrible reviews for games and told myself I'll play it anyway, but then exactly what the reviewer said would happen, happened! Actually you know what, I'm going to look up the meta critic review for this game, better to get a few other opinions than to write it off completely.

Yeah, funny how sometimes the critics get it right. That's really what their job is... in addition to giving their personal opinions (which of course everyone has, including reviewers!), they tell us how the game plays technically.

From the review (and the demo I played, also), it appears the game plays as if it's been laying around for 14 years and then picked up and polished off. Whether it's a polished gem or a polished turd is up to the eye (nose?) of the gamer, but there's no question that it's showing its age.

I'll contribute. Regardless whether or not Gearbox delivered here, I'm going to give them some respect because they took on a project that wouldn't have been able to please even if it was a fantastic game. They put their name on the line simply because they wanted to see the game made (and, y'know, tap into the cheddar that Duke Nukem ANYTHING is bound to produce). They built it to 3DR's specifications so it is what it is I guess.

So, even if this game turns out to be a stinker, thank you Gearbox. I got yo back.

@Haizeus Or they wanted to release a game like Duke Nukem so people would buy it of the name alone. It's more likely a business decision. To me if the game sucks there's no point to release it, not we wanted to see this game released so let's release even if its crap. IMO that's a disrespect to the Duke Nukem franchise if anything. Some failed projects are better off left alone. Why do you have their back for releasing a game that shouldn't have been released? If anything they should have started from scratch on a Duke game. I guess you fail to the king too :P

@Punkrawk Bbob If they continue to sell this game for a long time I think Gearbox should bundle it with Borderlands. It would justify the sticker and expose people to a great game they may have missed.

That is the dumbest logic ever. It's like saying, "I know this car might catch on fire if it's hit from the back, but I'm going to buy it anyway".

Do you really think anyone will care about the "history" of this game? it's not an antique jukebox or something, it's not going to appreciate in value, it will end up as just another punchline, like Daikatana was.

Anyway, who didn't see this coming? Did you guys really expect this game to be good?

@DangerMouse001 - Fair enough!

@jblank - I disagree. First and foremost, people should start caring about what THEY feel, not about "what other people will think". It's a piece of my personal history and I want to own it. I never said I want to sell it or that it has any other value to me than pure nostalgia factor.

Also, tell that to people who collect stamps. What's the point if they don't want to send them. Buying stamps just to have them? Please!
There are also people who would love to own a DeLorean just for the sake of it. How is wanting to own something "flawed" only because it's not the best thing ever?

That is a terrible car analogy. I imagine a more accurate one--for many of us, at least--would be something along the lines of a grandparent's car. Some old car that you have vague--but fond--memories of and just kind of thought you'd like to own someday. By the time you can have it, it's in terrible condition, and you definitely won't want to drive it regularly, but you'd still like to take it for a spin, even just once. But if you don't have any sentimental attachment to that car, then you don't have any reason to care.

Also, none of your games are "antique jukeboxes," does that make owning them any less special?
