Amazing how the same guy that gave us that crappy Bad Day L.A. can give us one of the best games so far. Maybe Mc Gee should do nothing more but creepy fairy tales, i don´t think anybody would mind.

Are you implying that "Alice: Madness Returns" is one of the best games ever made?

Just wondering...

Obviously he meant Scrapland.

At the very least, American McGee was humbled enough at some point to stop putting his name above the titles of his games. Either that, or he had nothing to do with this game...in which case, that explains the semi-favorable reviews.

Don't give him to much credit. At the bottom of the box, just a bit underneath the title it says "An American McGee Game".

Out of all the games that came out in 2011 so far, you declare "Alice" to be one of the best of the year.

Apparently you don't play enough video games, sucks to be you.

Not really, as a mater of fact you are ignoring my "just one of" i never said it was the best, but if it´s like the first one you can be sure it´s going to join the list, personally i don´t pay a lot of attention to the reviews of joystick, most of the time their review don´t really reflect the real quality of the game, and from your list i would only add dead space 2 and LA Noire to the list of the best so far....

If you have a "life" and don't have time for video games, why are you posting on a video game site?

I have a full time job and obligations, yet I still manage to enjoy video games as my hobby.

Your poor response doesn't even solidify your reasoning as to why "alice" is better than all of the other great games that came out already in 2011.

If those are your 4 best games of the year, then I don't see why this can't be one of the best. If Yakuza 4, Dead Space 2, and Bulletstorm are some kind of timeless masterpieces beyond compare in your eyes, then I can't help you.

don´t know buddy, maybe for the same reason you have a "job and obligations" but are able to answer poor messages. See?? it´s not too hard when you try, and if you are going to take joysticks word as a way to measure games then you are going to play less, i´ve found many of this reviews just useless with many games, must of the time they don´t give a real criticism for the game, just like this one:
"There are no boss fights; just tasks and fetch quests whose ultimate rewards are, "I dunno. Go ask so-and-so."

If you ever played the first one then yo should know that is EXACTLY how the first game was, and guess what?? is considered one of the best ever........ so, if the formula was repeated and improved then yes, we have a great game, i don´t take joysticks word as a measure, if i did i´d have ignored Duke Nukem and i found it very entertaining, not state of the art but we all knew that. And finally i NEVER said that alice was better than dead space 2, that would be like saying that all the games that have appeared so far are going to be better than arkham city (small tip: they are not).

@Jenks You guys are being way too hard on him. So what if he thinks it's one of the best games of the year? You're really going to tell me that Yakuza 4 is definatively better? It's his opinion, and there's not a huge number of games that are obvious best of the year, basically just Portal 2, MK and LA Noire. If he has something else that isn't as popular, so what?

Good point dude, the problem here is that many people around here really fells too much power for that "down-vote" thing, i can assure you if that option was not available less people would make such a riot just because I happen to like Alice, so what?? some guys here said yakuza 2 was one of the top of the year ( yeah right).

Well as Far as I can see, in my opinion Portal 2 will be GOTY. I don't if Gears of War 3 will be mind blowing, but I have strong sense Portal 2 will get it. LA Noire is very good, but I personally enjoyed Portal 2 more.

Since this is on consoles for the first time, I'm one of the people wondering what I'm missing by not playing the first game.

It's also kind of hard to even tell what kind of game this really is from this review. Sounds like a mixture of Donkey Kong 64, Zelda, Silent Hill, and Dynasty Warriors.

The first one was good, but you could get lost very easy specially in later levels, if this game is like the first one don´t really expect a Donkey Kong platform game. It ´d be more a game were you keep walking a lot in crazy stages attacked by crazier characters but it´s not a survival horror, although there is some music in the first one that was beyond creepy, it´s more a: "go to point B to fix point A and have access to point C by going to point A" kind of game.

@SurlyDuff Well, it appears I may be wrong. The first game is DLC through an "online pass." Typical EA. If I was a gambling man, having not used the code yet, its just an unlock code for the game which is still on the disc.

It seems like I've waited forever for this game. Is it bad that I am content to wait another week or two for it to (inevitably) go on sale on Amazon for 25% off like every other new release?

@EvilCartographer You may not have to wait that long... it was $40 at online retailers two weeks before release. I noticed the price went back up since, but that's usually a sign of early price drops, ala Portal 2.

this is one of those games where i read the review only to make sure it wasn't going to tear it completely apart. i have an interest in the game, simply out of design and legacy, so i'm going to let it speak for itself. not sure if it ever came across as a landmark title or anything, but definitely something to throw in and get involved in the world. review seems solid enough, like the game will speak to those who have the patience to stick it out, but avoidable for someone looking for a random new pick up.

Can you guys throw in a little bit about the original and how it plays/looks on consoles?

I'm also not sure what a game has to do to be great these days; surely LA Noire is pretty repetitive as you just solve one case after another. Is it the platforming mechanics, or the "filler" that brings Alice down more? Or are there just not enough different things to do throughout the game (and in that case, in what game is there)?

I just got my pre-order bonus from Amazon and listening to it now. The soundtrack is by the old keyboard player from Nine Inch Nails, he did the first one too.

I'm excited, the music sounds great and I think I can get over the gamplay problems, I got over it mostly in Epic Disney, sometimes story and art make up for that.

It's a perfect example of a game with a lot of brilliant ideas shoehorned into a fairly underwhelming game. It's definitely worth a play, just to experience its nuances and great story/characters.
