Really?

Hows your mum feel about paying 30 quid for 15 maps and 45 quid for the game?
Oh and don't forget the Xbox Live so thats 115 quid....

@iceytoa1 Seriously? Get over the price of maps. He likes Call of Duty. So what? You don't have to buy CoD, its existence is not some offensive insult to your nerd-cred.

I didn't down vote him, I up voted him.

I did however down vote iceytoa1.

CoD isn't my favorite game by far, but it still is fun, and due to the fact it's the one game that the majority of my friends and family own, it's the one game where I can always find someone to play with I enjoy.

I've logged hundreds of hours on CoD, even if I include the map packs, and pretend my Gold account is only for CoD(which is not even close to true), the value still comes out to pennies an hour for a fun experience.

Value is contextual, some people get mad that others see value where they don't.

Still blows my mind that people have to freak out and hate on others for just having fun.(which most likely means they are sad, depressed individuals)

Where did you get squids from? He said QUID, which is British currency.

Also on topic I have purchased the two packs out already, but I still feel the price is too high and should have been 800 points. Problem is that after everyone bought up the first map packs at this price, it set the precedent and the price will not be changing anytime soon/ever.

I'm just going to randomly reply to this guy on the front page so that I make sure my voice is heard. I'm also going to say something about how first person shooters are ruining the industry, when in reality it brings in more and more gamers every year who can then go and buy different games that they wouldn't have otherwise.

It's not even close to the same to compare GH and Tony Hawk to COD. Yes, Activision is milking COD, but it's working. Each entry continues to break sales records and surpassing the previous entry. You're also comparing a very novelty and niche market to a very significant gaming genre.

I'm starting to think Activision should adopt the online pass thing but instead of it just unlocking online play, you could get a discount of future DLC if you buy the game new. But I guess pigs haven't flown yet.

Exactly. I mean it's not only a way to sell more copies but it's also an incentive for gamers who don't want to have to pay 15 bucks for each maps. Activision makes more money in the end anyway. I've already missed out on the first two map packs & now with this one coming out, I'm sure I won't get them unless the prices drop. Who wants to spend 45 bucks on maps?

But didn't we fork out 15 dollars for DLC not too long ago?
And also aren't they releasing a new game in a few months?

What? They want to add more money to the already "a lot of money" they have?
Why didn't you say so? I mean, I'm not made of money and I don't think Xbox accepts blood as payment (yet) and I know I don't "have" to buy but ......but.....umm..... I really don't know where I'm going with this to be honest guys.
I'm going back to sleep..

@Adhesive And with that I'm essentially holding off on ever getting this DLC til there's an eventual price drop. Forking over $15 ever other month for maps is getting too steep now, it was cute at first, but now it's getting annoying.

I enjoy Black Ops and have money to spend, but even I can say enough is enough.

Waiting 8-12 months for a possible price reduction in DLC provides less value than buying them new and using the content when the multiplayer servers are full.

@myTmorphinJesse1 I thought that was obvious at this point. I was surprised that me and my friends stopped playing it after a month compared to CoD4 which we played for a year. I feel the staleness but I'm gonna look and see what the new IW and sledgehammer does with the series.

Um, i know the average consumer sees the name Call of Duty and just lumps it together into a pile but, you're savvy enough to peruse Joystiq's pages and comment. Use that wit to distinguish the fact that there are 2 different developers that make games under the Call of Duty brand.

Does Black ops play like MW2....? No.

TL:DR

Basically, you questioned if they are milking the "brand." Then on the other side of the fence if they didn't release maps, people still throw tomatoes. So what is the solution?

I always read about people saying, DLC is expensive/why are they putting out new DLC so soon, etc, etc, but if you do a dollar/hr comparison it's cheaper than going to the movies.
Let's say you buy the game for $60 and all 3 DLC's for $45. That's $105. Now if you play the game for ~250 hrs (which is probably a low estimate) then you have $1 getting you ~2.4 hrs of entertainment time.
If you go to the movies, $10 for a ticket and ~2 hrs for the movie. So you have $1 getting you ~0.2 hrs of entertainment.
That's a pretty big difference.
Of course you always have the option of not going to the movies. :p

Y'know, I don't ever really get the map packs. The only maps I find fun are the zombies maps. I don't even like half of the regular maps and I don't like any of the multiplayer DLC maps. MW2 had much better maps (and graphics, in my opinion). I just can't wait til MW3. It'll put Black Ops to shame.
