@tylercolp Chris, you just spent a quarter century discussing what may or may not be on a vapor ware list in the future for another sites publication... Frankly, who gives a flaming dull shit? You guys were aces! Now it sounds like the podcast equivalent of a fan film. I hereby surrender my Brush With Fame. :(

I can say with confidence that this was the most boring joystiq podcast ever made. I like you Chris but without Justin you just aren't very entertaining. I miss the laughs this show used to produce.

As one unending saga ends, so must another begin.

Let the Joystiq Show last at least as long as DNF was in production! Then commemorate the end with the release of another Duke Nukem game!

Hmm...no Ludwig, Griffin, Justin, Dave, Richard, or Alexander? What's with that? I'll take hearing any of the Joystiq crew make fun of how horrible this game is over hearing Jon St. John talk about his own game any day. Oh well...

@Altman be Praised

All I want to know is when are Dave, Richard, and Alexander going to be on the podcast?

I might have to download this show on a case by case basis instead of doing an auto subscribe. Gonna have to skip this week since I don't care about Duke Nukem at all...

So the entire show is just about Duke Nukem? I hope this one-game format isn't going to be a recurring trend for the new show. Especially if the game that's being talked about is brand new and barely worth playing (as said by Joystiq's very own review)

It wasn't too bad, but I thought the reason the old podcast ended was to relaunch a more professional Joystiq podcast?

It really didn't come across as more professional, just slower-paced and less funny.

@slickie Also, I think it's ridiculous that Joystiq asked us to post comments with our opinion of the new show, then its editor-in-chief Chris Grant tweets that we gamers "fear and loathe change", the audience that enjoyed the original podcast over this one was "very small", and that the old show was broke and needed fixing. Meh. Needs more cowbell. Stop trying to be high brow game journalists, there's loads of other sites and podcasts like that. I want Grant, McElroy and crew and their hilarious take on the industry, the cynicism, the dry humour, and the only podcast that really says what we're all thinking. I am gutted the old format is gone. Was the best gaming podcast out there.

@TenEightyPeewee

I disagree that other podcasts try to be professional. I listen to some of the IGN and Gamespot podcasts and a lot of the staff on those are just as offbeat and silly as the Joystiq crew are.

It'd be hard to find a podcast where someone tries to take everything seriously. I dislike it when gaming press tries to pretend like they have to be formal and professional. I would think 95% of the people visiting this site don't care about the professional side and just want a bunch of people that play videogames for a living to sit down and openly chat about videogames. Hilarity should ensue.

I honestly don't know what the intended audience is for this podcast format cause it's not the old audience. I'm also very confident this isn't just a reaction to change.

I understand the other Podcasts may also take a similar note and 'fun/funny' format but the JoyStiq Podcast and the XB360 FCast were simply better than those in my opinion and higher level of charm and wit! Justin and Chris face-palming at a Kinect game or some awful DLC attempt is one example. I love Joystiq because its the only site i feel operates on a level the rest of us gamers do. IGN, Gamespot etc just feels like a bit empty and less personal.

But now it's gone, It's GONE DAMMIT! DAMN YOU SALAZAAARRR!!!

I know Chris is trying to sound more professional, but I think with some of these interviews (granted I'm still listening to the show as I type this) some of his energy feels like it's a little lessened since it's much more structured and less spontaneous... perhaps it would benefit you guys if one of your funnier guys (and it could be a different guy each time) was sort of Chris's wingman so that they could chime in now and then with something potentially spontaneous (and still on-topic) to say. Right now it feels a little too NPR-like... too quiet and too even-toned. It doesn't have that fresher vibe that the old show and X3F had.

@Gaddes The NPR comparison is on point. I play videogames for fun, and I consume gaming news for fun as well. If I wanted "soulless" I'd be reading Gamespot.

At least there's still Giantbomb.

The real disconnect here is Chris tweeted the site gets about 7 million visitors vs 50k podcast downloaders and this is an attempt to increase that number. I don't think the right approach to getting those 7 million visitors to convert to listeners is by completely abandoning the fun and punny tone of the site.

I listened to something like 10 minutes of interviewing some guy who wrote a joke page on the internet, and thought multiple times, "...why are they still talking?". I made it to the Jon St. John interview where he did his cheesy Nukem voice randomly like a dirty Charles Martinet. I got so bored I gave up on it (Ironically, much like Duke Nukem Forever).

It was wonderful editing, very professional, but it's not what I expected or wanted with a "fun" podcast. I really like you guys, but it was boring. I've unsubscribed. I'm still a site reader though, so I'll keep an eye out and hope you guys give this the New Coke treatment and decide to bring back "Joystiq Classiq". In the meantime, I've still got two hilarious editors to listen to on "My Brother, My Brother & Me", so it's not all bad.

@onan My problem was the roundtable.

Simple defense of I want to be Wolverine not a hobo in regards to regen vs healthpacks.

Fair enough point but no one else can come up with a simple rebuttal of that is a particular take that was old when Duke Nukem Forever was announced. I would HOPE newer gamess have shown how to make that particular game mechanic make sense within a narrative more than my nominal everyman (I'm looking at you Drake) is secretly a mutant. Heck Mass Effect had a reasonable halfway idea with it's Medi-gel being a limited resource, it's gameplay just didn't do enough to stress that.

@D3m0sthenes this is rigid, forced, and shit. I could have listened to plenty of other casts for this format. As my itunes review said, I liked the old podcasts cause it felt like I was cutting loose with my nerdy friends talking about games like I had a crush on them. This is a huge disappointment.

My review said similar. It was so good because of the magic between the three of them... it hurts my heart so bad that the magic may not happen again...

Also, yes I love MBMBAM so much. I've been on Joystiq since '05. Everything they touch is magical, except this is seems...

I hope you guys prove me wrong though. Very much so.

@D3m0sthenes. Raik, we had some good times here! Those old podcasts kept the loneliness of a new town, job, and my wife leaving me away. The shows accessibility and humor were bright spots in dark days. One of the few things I looked forward to. Guess I am just a sad sack of doody doo.

@The Wicker Man

I feel you man, those years were pretty tough for me too actually, now life has evened out, and one of the few truly enjoyable things I found during that time are gone.

Mr. Grant seems to think we're terrified of change, when in fact we (and very few others) are their most devout fans through all of the changes in the past. We are only giving our opinions because we care, we don't think this place sucks, other than some of the commenters, we love the wonderful things Joystiq.com has brought us. But, a huge reason I'm still dangling on IS the podcast. I'm an adult, with responsibilities, I don't have all the time in the world to game anymore. The podcast helped me fill in the blanks. I still have it, though it seems to be much less fun.

I do have faith though. Just so far it's been shaken a bit more than I'd like.

I've been a huge fan of the Joystiq Podcast for a while now, and I was extremely excited to see the new podcast pop up today.

Then I listened to the podcast and I was pretty disappointed. This new format just feels too choppy and less fun to be honest.

When the new podcast was announced, based on what I heard on the last Joystiq Podcast, I thought it would retain mostly the same format, but it would have a rotating panel of Joystiq writers with the occasional guest for certain big name game roundtables.

I'll keep listening, but I just found myself bored while listening, like it was talk radio. Please just give the show a better flow and try to have more people than just Chris and the guest in each segment. Hopefully this is just some kinks in the first episode.

Don't get me wrong. Still love the site and it's writers, but this episode was just a huge letdown.
