It is second only to Chrono Cross. I honestly don't remember too much about Ocarina of Time and I played through it when I was younger. It's been 13 years though. I pick my copy up Sunday though, can't wait. Got it for 32.99 total from Best Buy, first time Amazon has dropped the ball on price.

Really don't see why Cross doesn't get more praise than it does. That game was brilliant. I'm also looking forward to playing this again, cause I remember enjoying it, but I don't remember it leaving such an undying impact on me like everyone else. Might be cause I didn't play it till the game cube era...

Chrono Cross > Chrono Trigger > Ocarina of Time

Remember this is my opinion!

@Kougeru We must have played different versions of Chrono Cross.

I'm not debasing or bashing how you feel about it, as that would be asinine.

Just for me, however, Chrono Cross was an absolutely disappointment compared to Trigger for me. Never has a sequel disappointed me more. :(

This is hands-down the greatest game of all time. This is the pinnacle, the cream of the crop. I seriously don't ever expect it to ever be topped.

Yes. Ties with FF7 in my book.

Now OOT has been remade, all we need is for Sony (who own the publishing rights to FF7) to let Square do the same for that title, and you know, I think that's going to be just enough for humanity to pull through.

Buying this game and a 3DS tomorrow. Knew I couldn't resist it long.

Sony doesn't own the publishing rights to FF7. That all got lost, along with their ownership share in Squaresoft, with the Enix merger.

For all we know, an FF7 remake could appear on the Wii-U and/or 360. Which is likely since third-party PS3-exclusives are not profitable.

Chrono Cross was more of a spiritual successor than an actual sequel, like Paper Mario to Mario RPG (The latter of which I think is a much better game). Still though, even considering it a sequel, there IS Sonic 4. They could've called it anything else and I would be fine with that, but Sonic 3 was greatness damn it, it deserved better.

OF COURSE IT'S A CRIME! You shall be prosecuted to the full... all right I'm kidding, of course not. I sincerely mean this when I say enjoy the hell out of it. It was, and remains, one of my absolute favorite video games ever made. Have a good time with it and check out Link to the Past at some point.

You really are 'that guy'.

Ocarina of Time remains one of the best games of history, that's why it's a crime you haven't played it (considering you're a regular gamer).
To many OoT is the best 3D Zelda. If you're into 2D games, you should try A Link to the Past too. That game is, like, an ode to videogames (for many, it's better than OoT, myself included).

@sparkster

It's interesting that you said that... I've thought several times over the last 20 years that it would be spectacular to play one of the Zelda games for the "first time" again. I preordered Ocarina and still own the Gold copy. However, I beat the game in one week, way back in November of 1998 if I am remembering correctly, and have never played through it a second time. As far as I can tell... I hardly remember anything from it. I do remember it being great and I know it is considered the best game ever. However, I've just never been a HUGE fan of the 3D Zelda games. It works well but just ... slightly misses for me.

For the record... The Legend of Zelda, the original and the series itself, is my all-time favorite game(s). I just desperately wish they'd make a NEW overhead 2D one some day. That is where the magic was made and one day I might get that again.

P.S. I just might get a 3DS to get this game... Still on the fence.

@Soiden

I agree about your stance on A Link to the Past. The original and A Link to the Past are my all-time top two games. They go back and forth on the list based on which I'm playing. The original is the one that started it but A Link to the Past basically perfected it in the 2D realm.

The Legend of Zelda has the best overall score ever in my humble opinion... but, and this is an enormous but, A Link to the Past has the single greatest composition I've ever heard.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJh3D_zX0To

This composition actually brings me back to when I was 11/12 and played this game for the first time and reminds me of what life was like back in 1992. I'm 20 years older now and this makes me realize all that has happened since then, both in life itself and in the gaming world, and I truly cherish everything.

The transition at 1:52 from new to "newly composed original" is simply breathtaking. If they still did music like this I don't know what I would do. Probably fly to Japan and give them a handshake out of pure appreciation.

P.S. This guy does a very good job as well:

Man, some people. I think you're actually lucky. I mean, you still have to experience for the first time one of, if not THE best game of all times. I'd give anything to feel that rush again. Just beware: overhype can spoil anything, even this game. I mean 13 years of anticipation? Reminds me of a recently released game... But don't worry, OoT is actually good. Everything you've ever heard about it is true.

The N64 was sort of a low-point for them. They still managed to school everyone on the right way to do cameras and controls in 3D games though. And produced Zelda64 of course.
